Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of counseling interventions using the KKJ model (Islamic Piety, Financial Intelligence, and Social Spirit) to improve the self-concept of adolescents at Palembang Class I Special Child Development Institution (LPKA). Adolescents in correctional facilities often experience negative self-concept due to dysfunctional family backgrounds, weak economic conditions, and unsupportive social environments. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed with four male subjects aged 16-19 years from different legal backgrounds, including theft, child protection violations, narcotics abuse, and homicide. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation over two months. The results revealed significant improvements across three dimensions of self-concept: self-knowledge, future expectations, and self-assessment. Subjects experienced positive behavioral transformations, including increased self-confidence, enhanced social skills, emotional stability, and spiritual awareness. The KKJ model proved effective in forming healthier, more psychologically and spiritually adaptive self-concepts among adolescent detainees. This integrated approach addresses cognitive, communicative, and spiritual domains simultaneously, providing a holistic rehabilitation framework. The findings suggest that value-based counseling can successfully transform adolescents from psychologically vulnerable individuals into resilient persons ready for social reintegration

Abstract

Beureunut Village, Seulimeum Subdistrict, Aceh Besar Regency is a coastal area with significant potential for fisheries and tourism, yet remains underutilized. This community service program aims to support coastal tourism development based on the minapolitan concept as a strategy to improve community welfare. Activities were conducted using a participatory approach, beginning with mapping the village's potential, identifying issues, and developing an integrated concept for fisheries and tourism-based area development. Findings reveal that Beureunut Village possesses geographical advantages, biological richness (including eel habitats), and potential for eco-tourism rooted in local culture. Nevertheless, challenges including infrastructure limitations, institutional constraints, and market access remain major obstacles. The program produced a development plan for a coastal tourism-minapolitan area that integrates eco-tourism functions, a fisheries hub, and the empowerment of SMEs based on marine products. Implementation of the concept is expected to boost the local economy and establish a sustainable model for coastal village development.

Abstract

The community service activity aims to enhance knowledge, awareness, and family communication skills in the digital era among residents of Rancabango Village, North Subang. The activity began with a pre-test questionnaire to measure participants' initial understanding of verbal and nonverbal communication, as well as the utilization of digital media in family interactions. Pre-test results showed that 66% of participants had not yet understood the concept of family communication formally, and only a small portion utilized digital features for emotional communication in daily life. Through a series of interactive counseling sessions, practical training, and simulations (role play), participants were equipped with knowledge and healthy communication skills within the family. Post-activity evaluation through post-test demonstrated significant improvement, with 85% of participants understanding the concept of family communication and being able to recognize the role of verbal and nonverbal language, as well as the impact of gadget use. A total of 76% of participants showed increased emotional awareness toward their partners and children, while 70% were able to apply digital communication techniques such as the use of emoticons and voice messages appropriately. The findings indicate that participatory counseling has proven to have a real impact on forming healthier family communication patterns, while simultaneously playing a role in preventing domestic conflicts and divorce.

Abstract

Climate change, environmental degradation, and ecosystem destruction demand the adoption of eco-friendly practices in economic activities. Beyond environmental benefits, such practices enhance economic competitiveness, particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Tanjung Rejo Mangrove Tourism Village in Medan Belawan exemplifies the integration of sustainable tourism with mangrove ecosystem conservation and local economic empowerment through homestays, tour guides, and environmentally-based products. This study evaluates the effectiveness of eco-friendly training for 30 local MSMEs using participatory methods with pre-test and post-test instruments. Results indicate significant improvements across ten indicators (25%-56%), notably in production waste management (56%) and consumer awareness of eco-friendly products (45%). The training successfully catalyzed behavioral transformation toward sustainable business practices, yielding dual impacts on ecosystem preservation and MSME economic competitiveness. Findings demonstrate that structured capacity-building programs can drive collective environmental awareness while strengthening local economies. Recommendations include developing advanced training modules, fostering multi-sector collaboration, and establishing incentive systems for MSMEs consistently implementing eco-friendly practices.

Abstract

This community service program was conducted in Lambadeuk Village, Peukan Bada District, Aceh Besar Regency, aiming to enhance the productivity of marginal land through the application of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and a chili–patchouli intercropping system. The area is dominated by Entisol soils characterized by low fertility, compact structure, and limited water availability. Two farmer groups were selected as partners based on their land ownership, activeness, and commitment to participate throughout the program. The activities included socialization, technical training, field practice, and continuous mentoring. The training materials covered liquid organic fertilizer preparation, mycorrhiza application, integrated pest management, and intercropping techniques. Results indicated noticeable improvement in soil physical properties following organic fertilizer and mycorrhiza application. The soil became looser in texture, darker in color, and visibly richer in organic matter. The patchouli plant survival rate reached 62.5%, and no significant pest attacks were recorded. Active participation of farmers in all stages demonstrated an increase in technical knowledge and practical skills related to sustainable farming. These findings suggest that integrating GAP with organic and biological soil amendments can serve as an effective approach to revitalize marginal lands and strengthen farmers’ capacity toward a more resilient and productive agricultural system.

Abstract

The community engagement program for developing tourism villages in Karawang Regency aimed to strengthen local capacity in the legalization process through a participatory pentahelix approach. This framework integrates collaboration among academics, local government, entrepreneurs, communities, and the media to establish an adaptive and sustainable governance system. The study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a participatory model emphasizing experiential learning. The program involved 33 participants from eleven partner villages, covering stages of socialization, thematic training, technical assistance, and evaluation. The results revealed an 85% increase in participants’ understanding of tourism village legalization standards, nine villages successfully drafted preliminary tourism village profiles aligned with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy’s indicators, and multi-stakeholder collaboration strengthened the institutional process. These findings indicate that the pentahelix approach not only enhances administrative readiness but also reinforces the role of local communities as primary agents of community-based tourism. Despite its success, the short duration and wide coverage remain constraints, suggesting the need for extended assistance and digital capacity development. The program is expected to accelerate tourism village legalization in Karawang and serve as a replicable model for sustainable local tourism development.
