Abstract

The implementation of Act No. 13 of 2003 on Manpower is intriguing to discuss since companies often violate and are apathetic in the right to act for employees' religious beliefs. The limited facilities of worship in the workplace also represents the commitment engagement of the company towards promulgated regulations which is still not implemented. The purpose of this study is to provide the more specified description and understanding towards the religiosity and implementation of Act No. 13 of 2003 on Manpower concerning The Rights to Perform Religious Obligations for Laborers. This study, which focuses on the religiosity of this worker class, took two different places, namely in Bekasi Regency and Subang Regency. This study uses qualitative methods which enables to reveal the actual circumstances. More specifically, qualitative research can be identified by the aim of research that seeks to understand the manifestation that does not require quantification--or because this manifestation is unable to be accurately measured. In relation to the method, the data collecting techniques are as follows: (1) nonparticipant observation and (2) in-depth interviews. While the data analysis starts from (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) drawing conclusions.By this study, the authors concluded: (1) companies that have become research object in Bekasi and Subang District have provided worship facilities and infrastructure as regulated in Act N. 13 of 2003 on Manpower in the Respect to Perform Religious Obligations. On the other hand, the workers still look forward some improvements on quality and quantity of worship facilities to emerge conveniences in performing worship; and (2) in general, the religiosity among working class is found at an average level.  In other words, the workers truly believe in God (Allah) with common knowledge about faith. They also perform religious practices as the evidence of the faith itself and as proof of obedience to God. Besides carrying out the orders of religion (worship), the workers also put some expectations on the reward as the way to accomplish the glory on Earth and afterlife. However, the workers realize that the worship carried out would not come to a subjective perspective (their dialogue with supernatural powers, Allah). The workers also attempt to make religion as the basis of all actions as they consider the consequences of the life on Earth for the afterlife.

The religious commitment is covered in three major Islamic teachings: Iman (faith), Islam (surrender to Allah), and lhsan (state of being observed by Allah). The model of Islamic counseling aims to tight students' religious commitment must to be applied immediately because the preface study reveals some students' religious commitment were not strong enough, their behavior and thinking symptoms tend to not appropriate yet with Islam norm among their association and conception toward the truth of God. To achieve the aim, the study was carried out with three steps: (1) designing a model of counseling; (2) trying out field study, using pretest-post test control group experimental design with 140 students of Islamic Religion Education, the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching, State Islamic University, Sunan Gunung Djati, Bandung. The variable involved three major Islamic dimensions: the iman, Islam, and ihsan of the students. The model was designed based on the theory put forward by Musfir bin Said Az-Zalmmi, that is, an integrated counseling model. The model combines and employs the ideas from other concepts into a tightly united concept, called Islamic concept. Upon completing analysis, it was found that the new concept is significantly effective to enhance students' religious commitment. A Model of Islamic Counseling (MIC) is an alternative-counseling model that can be employed for teenagers/ students to enhance their religious commitment. The study recommends that: (1) MIC can be applied to fifth semester students in the Faculty of Tarbiyah State Islamic University; (2) the application of MIC collaborates with professional and proportional elements relevant to the expected aim; (3) the researchers studying the same materials use the appropriate method appropriate to individual characteristics referring to Islamic norms kaffah (integrally).

Abstract

Indonesia and Japan have a natural relationship (natural partner) where diplomatic relations have been going on since 1958, and Japan is one of Indonesia's trading partners and investors. The Indonesian government through the Director General of National Export Development of the Ministry of Trade opened a Trade Promotion office, namely the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) Osaka. The purpose of this study is to find out how to implement Indonesian commercial diplomacy towards Japan through the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center Osaka in increasing the export value of MSMEs in Indonesia. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study as a data collection technique. The analysis of this paper will use the theory of commercial diplomacy. This theory is quite comprehensive in explaining various commercial diplomacy activities which include trade, investment, business advocacy and tourism promotion activities. Through the process of data analysis and interpretation, the results of this study are that Indonesian Commercial Diplomacy through ITPC Osaka in increasing the Export Value of Indonesian MSMEs has increased the export value in the last 3 (three) years starting from 2019, but it is still not optimal, because there are several factors including the existence of trade promotions that are still limited to exporters and the requirements for export eligibility in Japan are quite difficult.

Abstract

This article is an ethnographic account of my research on negotiating Islam and Sunda in Islamic Sundanese music. By taking special case of Terebang Sejak, I draw my attention on the issue based on my fieldwork in Cikeusal village, TasikMalaya, West Java. Observations and interviews are the main tools I used in gathering information. By presenting particularity of Terebang Sejak, this paper aims to present complexity and negotiations that are formed from the interaction between Islam and Sunda in the music in the village. In this context, presenting the idea of the truism of marginalizing Islam on local culture is in accordance with the idea of Indonesian modernity, which has parallelism with the mission of modernist Islam. While many scholars describe Islam in Indonesia with the idea of syncretism to depict the religion as ‘not really Islam’, in this article I provide different interpretation of localizing Islam by which people produce their own interpretation and appropriation in response to social and political changes in their environs. This interpretation will contribute to new understanding in addressing the particularity of meanings based on local knowledge, among Cikeusal people that forms what coded as ‘identity’ of being Muslim-Sunda. Here, Islamic text of Kitab Mulud in the music has played an agentive role to acknowledge the music as Islamic, thus continues to be part of ritual.

Abstract

The imperative of instilling environmental ethics in educational institutions has never been more pressing in the face of global environmental challenges. Nurul Iman Islamic Boarding School presents a unique case study in the successful integration of environmental love ethics within its pedagogical framework. This research employed a qualitative approach, utilizing observation, interviews, and document analysis to explore the strategies used by teachers at Nurul Iman Islamic Boarding School. The focus was on understanding how environmental ethics are taught and practiced within the Pesantren setting. The study examined the methods of modeling, habituation, punishment, and lecturing, analyzing how each contributes to the overall objective of fostering environmental consciousness among students. The findings reveal that modeling by teachers plays a critical role in setting a behavioral standard for students. Habituation methods, such as daily duty rosters and community service activities, effectively inculcate routine environmental practices. The punishment method, while used sparingly, effectively reinforces the importance of adhering to environmental standards. Lectures, particularly those grounded in religious texts, provide a theoretical and moral basis for environmental ethics. The integration of these methods has led to a comprehensive approach to environmental education, with students demonstrating a deeper understanding and commitment to environmental stewardship. The study underscores the potential of religious and ethical teachings in shaping environmental attitudes and behaviors, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach to environmental education.

Abstract

Although a religion is considered as a one of the cultural barriers that can impede an economic development, nevertheless in this paper I prove that Islam as well as Muslim society has a big role to empower economic life in Indonesian Muslim. The growth of Bayt al-Māl wa al-Tamwīl (BMT), Islamic microfinance institution, initiated by Muslim community is a great evidence on how religioun gave a positive impact in economic development in Indonesia. Using the theory of collective action proposed by Alberto Melucci, I explore the main factors that influenced Muslims to establish BMT, and how BMT movement develops in Indonesian Muslim society. Overall, in this paper I argue that the BMT movement can be considered as a social movement where the civil society takes more important role than the state. Interestingly, the lack of regulation is not becoming an obstacle for Muslim society to establish and develop BMT in some regions in Indonesia.
