Abstract

The rising prevalence of hypertension among women using three-month injectable contraceptives highlights a fundamental need for safe, effective, and accessible blood pressure management strategies in reproductive health care. This study aimed to evaluate the antihypertensive effect of starfruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) juice among women receiving injectable contraception at PMB Siti Fatimah, Bandungrejosari, Malang. Utilizing a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, twenty eligible participants consumed 100 ml of starfruit juice daily for seven days. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention using standardized instruments. Results showed a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group (mean reduction: 10/11.11 mmHg), with 77.8% of participants experiencing notable decreases (Wilcoxon p < 0.05), compared to only modest changes in the control group. These findings suggest that regular starfruit juice intake is an effective, natural, non-pharmacological option for managing hypertension, particularly among women at higher risk due to contraceptive use. This research contributes new evidence supporting the integration of dietary and complementary therapies into midwifery education and practice. The results advocate for nutrition counseling as part of family planning services, emphasizing holistic and preventive care. For future research, studies with larger, more diverse samples and longer follow-up periods are recommended to confirm and generalize these findings.

Abstract

Child sexual violence remains an urgent problem in Indonesia, exacerbated by cultural taboos and limited access to effective sex education for young children. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of sexuality education using audio-visual media in improving knowledge and self-protection skills among preschoolers aged 4–5 years at TK Muslimat NU 5 Irama, Malang. Employing a quantitative, pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the research involved 48 students selected through simple random sampling. Data collection utilized structured interviews and observation checklists, analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results revealed a significant improvement: the proportion of children with poor knowledge and skills declined sharply, while those in “good” and “very good” categories increased substantially after the intervention (p < 0.05). These findings demonstrate that audio-visual media can effectively convey essential concepts about body safety and appropriate touch, overcoming barriers associated with traditional or text-based methods. The study concludes that integrating interactive, age-appropriate media into early childhood education enhances both cognitive and practical domains of sexuality education. The research supports broader implementation of innovative, media-based strategies in preschool and midwifery settings to promote child protection and abuse prevention. Future studies are recommended to explore longitudinal effects, parental involvement, and scalability across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

Dark triad personality traits—narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism—are recognized as important constructs in psychological research but have lacked a concise, psychometrically sound assessment tool in Indonesia. This study aimed to adapt and validate the Dirty Dozen (DD) instrument into Bahasa Indonesia to address this gap. Using a sample of 157 adults recruited online, the research employed a rigorous adaptation process, including translation, back-translation, expert judgment, and pilot testing. Psychometric properties were examined through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and reliability analysis. Results indicated that the Indonesian DD demonstrated strong reliability and validity for the narcissism and Machiavellianism subscales, while the psychopathy subscale showed lower internal consistency, likely due to cultural and linguistic challenges in item adaptation. The CFA supported the original three-factor structure, with significant overlap between Machiavellianism and psychopathy, and no gender differences found in any domain. In conclusion, the Indonesian DD is a practical and efficient tool for measuring dark triad traits in local populations, though refinement of psychopathy items and response scale categories is recommended for future research.

Abstract

The decline of emotional intelligence among Generation Z, as evidenced by recent global and national reports, has underscored the urgent need for innovative interventions in educational settings, especially within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) where students face intense academic, religious, and social demands. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the doodling technique as a counseling intervention to enhance emotional intelligence among mahasantri at Pondok Pesantren Ibnu Katsir 2 Jember. Employing a quantitative quasi-experimental design (Time Series One Group), twelve students identified with low to medium emotional intelligence participated in a structured series of doodling sessions. Emotional intelligence was measured across five domains—self-awareness, self-management, motivation, empathy, and social skills—using a validated questionnaire before and after each intervention cycle. The findings revealed a significant and consistent increase in emotional intelligence scores, with all participants demonstrating measurable improvement as confirmed by the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test (p = 0.002). The study concludes that doodling is an effective, accessible, and creative intervention for fostering emotional growth, self-regulation, and resilience among pesantren students. The research not only fills a critical gap by applying the doodling technique in this unique context but also provides empirical support for integrating expressive art strategies into counseling and educational practice. It is recommended that future research involve larger samples, control groups, and longitudinal follow-up to further validate and expand upon these findings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of self-esteem on social media self-presentation in emerging adulthood Instagram users. The subjects of this study were men and women aged 18-25 years in Karawang Regency. The determination of the subjects was carried out using a non-probability sampling technique, especially convenience sampling, totaling 204 respondents. This study uses a quantitative method, the data collection technique in this study is using the Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES) to measure self-esteem and the Self Presentation on Facebook Questionnaire (SPFBQ) to measure self-presentation on social media. The data analysis technique used is simple regression. The results of this study show a p value = 0.447> 0.05, namely Ho is accepted and Ha is rejected, meaning that self-esteem does not have a significant effect on self-presentation. This finding indicates that self-presentation on Instagram in emerging adulthood is not influenced by self-esteem, but is likely influenced by other factors such as social pressure, peer influence, or motivation to form an ideal self-image. Therefore, further studies considering mediation or moderation variables are suggested to understand more comprehensively the relationship between self-esteem and self-presentation of social media users in this generation.

Abstract

The low writing proficiency among junior high school students, particularly in remote areas of Indonesia, remains a pressing concern in language education. This research addresses the problem by implementing a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model supported by audiovisual media to improve students' narrative writing skills. The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of the integrated instructional model on students' writing performance, focusing on idea development, vocabulary usage, and text organization. Using a quantitative, pre-experimental design with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest framework, data were collected from 30 Grade VII students at SMP Antonius Nabire. Writing assessments were conducted before and after the treatment, with results analyzed using paired sample t-tests and normalized gain (N-Gain) scores. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ writing abilities after the intervention, with posttest scores exceeding the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) and N-Gain scores indicating high learning gains. These outcomes suggest that combining PjBL with audiovisual media enhances student engagement, creativity, and comprehension in writing tasks. The study contributes to educational research by providing a replicable model for under-resourced contexts, demonstrating that multimodal and student-centered instruction can bridge performance gaps and promote equitable learning. Future research is recommended to examine long-term impacts and scalability of the model across diverse educational settings.

Abstract

Educational leadership plays a pivotal role in shaping school quality, especially in contexts with limited resources. In Indonesia, despite ongoing reforms, many public schools still struggle with gaps in teacher performance due to weak coordination, insufficient recognition, and minimal external support. This study aims to explore the relationship between instructional leadership by the principal and teacher performance at State Elementary School 33 in Ternate City. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis to capture contextual realities and leadership dynamics. The findings reveal that effective instructional leadership—defined by classroom supervision, recognition of teacher efforts, collaborative decision-making, and strategic resource management—positively influences teacher motivation, administrative compliance, and instructional quality. Teachers responded positively to the principal’s hands-on leadership and participatory approach, while supervision cycles and administrative support enhanced accountability. The study concludes that even in funding-constrained environments, instructional leadership remains a key driver of school improvement. Its strength lies in fostering a collaborative school culture, aligning teacher practices with national standards, and supporting continuous professional growth. The results offer valuable insights for school leaders, policymakers, and educational researchers seeking practical leadership strategies to enhance teaching quality in similar socio-educational contexts. Future studies are encouraged to adopt a longitudinal design and expand the sample to include comparative analyses across diverse regions and school types.

Abstract

Tulang Bawang Regency, located in Lampung Province, Indonesia, represents a multicultural society marked by ethnic, religious, and socio-cultural diversity. This diversity, while enriching, also brings challenges such as social inequality, conflicting identities, and differing interpretations of moderation values. This study aims to explore the implementation of moderation values in fostering social harmony within this complex environment. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Fifteen key informants—including religious leaders, traditional figures, and community activists—were purposively selected. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s thematic analysis framework. The findings reveal that challenges in implementing moderation stem from contrasting views about its meaning, external disruptions (such as social media), economic disparities, and insufficient political consistency. Nonetheless, significant opportunities exist, including interfaith education, the proactive role of traditional leaders, youth engagement, and civil society initiatives. Educational programs and strong leadership were found essential to shaping early tolerance. This study concludes that the consistent promotion of moderation values requires an integrated approach involving inclusive education, equitable policies, media literacy, and the active participation of all societal elements. The research offers valuable insights for policymakers and educators aiming to strengthen social integration in multicultural settings. Future research is recommended to evaluate the long-term impact of moderation-based policies and to explore comparative studies in other culturally diverse regions.

Abstract

Iron-deficiency anemia remains a critical public health issue among adolescent girls, particularly in rural areas with limited access to nutrition education and supplementation. Red guava (Psidium guajava L.) and dates (Phoenix dactylifera) are known to contain vitamin C and iron, respectively, which are essential for hemoglobin synthesis. This study aims to evaluate the effect of consuming pudding made from red guava and dates on hemoglobin (Hb) levels in female adolescents with anemia in Lebakadi Village, Lamongan Regency. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design was used involving 60 adolescent girls aged 14–17 years. Participants were divided into an intervention group (n=30) receiving 100g/day of guava-date pudding for 14 days and a comparison group (n=30) receiving placebo pudding. Hb levels were measured pre- and post-intervention using a digital hemoglobinometer. Data were analyzed with paired and independent sample t-tests (p<0.05). The treatment group showed a significant increase in mean Hb levels from 10.43±0.31 g/dL to 12.00±0.55 g/dL (p=0.000), while the comparison group showed no significant change (11.45±0.25 g/dL to 11.47±0.27 g/dL, p=0.229). No adverse effects were reported. Guava-date pudding significantly improves Hb levels in anemic adolescent girls. This intervention is culturally appropriate, well-accepted, and effective as a non-pharmacological strategy. The findings support the implementation of food-based anemia prevention programs in schools and rural health posts. Future research should involve a larger, more diverse sample and include additional biomarkers such as ferritin and TIBC.

Abstract

The persistent challenge of high unemployment rates among Indonesian vocational high school (SMK) graduates highlights the need for holistic approaches to career readiness, extending beyond technical instruction to include psychological preparation for recruitment and selection processes. This study aims to explore the perceptions of grade XI students at SMK Garuda Nusantara regarding psychological test training (specifically the TIU 5 General Intelligence Test) and its impact on their career readiness. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through purposive sampling of students who participated in open-ended questionnaires, in-depth interviews, and classroom observations, and analyzed thematically using NVivo 12. The findings reveal that the majority of students perceive themselves as ready to transition to the workforce or higher education, with both internal factors (motivation, self-confidence) and external factors (internships, parental and teacher support, and structured psychometric practice) playing significant roles. Psychometric test training was found to enhance students’ self-awareness, self-efficacy, and confidence, while reducing anxiety toward recruitment assessments. Students regarded these exercises as directly relevant to their future career and educational pathways. The study concludes that integrating systematic psychological test practice within vocational guidance programs not only addresses a critical gap in the Indonesian context but also fosters greater adaptability and success in school-to-work transitions. This research underscores the importance of reflective, experiential, and motivational interventions in vocational education and recommends expanding psychometric test training to improve employability outcomes for SMK graduates.
