Abstract

The persistent difficulty students face in understanding the human respiratory system—a core yet abstract topic in science education—is rooted in the lack of contextual, visual, and interactive learning media, as highlighted by both national and international research. This study aimed to examine whether technology-based, visual respiratory system media can significantly enhance elementary students’ cognitive learning outcomes, particularly in higher-order thinking skills such as analysis and evaluation. Employing a quantitative, quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, the study involved 34 fifth-grade students at SDN Inpres Rasa 1, Kabupaten Bima, using purposive sampling. A 20-item multiple-choice test based on the revised Bloom’s taxonomy (C1–C4) was used to measure learning outcomes before and after intervention. Descriptive statistics showed a marked improvement: the mean pretest score was 62.8, rising to 73.3 in the posttest, with gains observed across all ability levels. Inferential analysis using a paired sample t-test confirmed the significance of this improvement (t = -15.2, df = 33, p < .001), demonstrating that interactive visual media have a strong positive effect on students’ conceptual understanding of the respiratory system. The results conclude that technology-based visual media not only promote retention and comprehension but also foster analytical and evaluative skills, aligning with current science education goals. This research provides empirically-tested, practical recommendations for educators and policymakers, supporting the integration of digital media in science curricula and teacher training. Future studies are recommended to expand this approach with control groups, longitudinal designs, and investigations into affective and psychomotor domains, as well as the use of emerging technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality to further enhance science learning outcomes.

Abstract

Sustainable education transformation requires evidence-based and contextually relevant planning strategies. This study explores the integration of data-based planning with SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis to improve the strategic planning process in educational institutions. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review method, this research examines secondary data obtained from accredited national journals, reputable international journals, and academic books published between 2013 and 2023. The study highlights that the use of valid and measurable data—such as national assessments, satisfaction surveys, and institutional performance indicators—significantly enhances the accuracy of SWOT analysis. This integrative approach enables the formulation of more accurate, reflective, and results-oriented educational strategies. However, the implementation of this model still faces several challenges, including low levels of data literacy among educators, limited access to integrated information systems, and the lack of structured training in strategic planning at the school level. This study contributes to the body of knowledge in education management by offering a conceptual framework that combines data-driven decision-making with SWOT analysis. The implications underline the need to strengthen institutional capacity and promote policy support for data-based planning to ensure adaptive and sustainable improvements in education quality.

Abstract

Memorizing the Qur'an is a core tradition in Islamic education, promoting spiritual growth and the preservation of divine revelation. However, traditional rote memorization methods often overlook individual learning styles and emotional barriers, leading to challenges in long-term retention and comprehension. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Quantum Makky method combined with individual counseling in enhancing the memorization and understanding of Qur'anic verses, specifically Surah An-Naba (verses 4, 5, and 6) at Rumah Tahfiz Mafaza 3. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns. The findings revealed that Quantum Makky gestures significantly improved memory retention by creating strong cognitive links between physical movements and textual meanings. For instance, using a single finger to denote certainty in verse 4 (كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ) and spreading hands to symbolize the earth's vastness in verse 6 (أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا) effectively reinforced the memorization process. Additionally, individual counseling addressed psychological barriers, enhancing self-confidence, learning motivation, and emotional resilience. This approach resulted in notable improvements in four areas: memory retention, comprehension, learning motivation, and public recitation confidence. The study highlights the value of integrating multisensory learning with personalized support, providing a practical framework for enhancing cognitive retention and emotional resilience in Qur'anic education. Future research should explore the scalability of this approach and consider integrating digital tools for broader application.

Abstract

Verbal bullying is a pervasive issue in educational settings, characterized by insults, harsh language, and derogatory comments that can have severe psychological and emotional impacts on students. This study aimed to develop a culturally relevant intervention model that integrates the values of the Petik Laut tradition with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reduce verbal bullying at MTS Al Haromain, Mojosari, Puger. The research utilized a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, which included the identification of bullying prevalence, module development, expert validation, and pilot testing with 53 students (Sa et al., 2020). The findings revealed that the Petik Laut tradition, emphasizing mutual respect, community solidarity, and environmental stewardship, significantly reduced verbal bullying and enhanced students' social resilience, fostering positive behavioral changes. This study contributes to the field of educational psychology by demonstrating the effectiveness of integrating local cultural values into structured educational interventions, offering a novel approach to bullying prevention that aligns with both cultural sustainability and contemporary educational goals. The results underscore the importance of culturally responsive education and highlight the potential for broader application in diverse educational contexts. Future research should explore the long-term impacts of this approach on student outcomes, including academic achievement, social well-being, and community engagement.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of science and technology has demanded innovation in education, particularly in learning approaches that foster student motivation and engagement. This study aims to investigate the influence of mathematical literacy skills and the use of audiovisual media on student learning motivation at Al-Madina Nabire Middle School. Employing a quantitative method with multiple linear regression analysis, data were collected from 28 eighth-grade students through questionnaires measured on a Likert scale. Classical assumption tests confirmed that the data met requirements for normality, multicollinearity, autocorrelation, and homoscedasticity. The results revealed that mathematical literacy skills did not significantly affect learning motivation, whereas the use of audiovisual media had a significant and positive impact. Simultaneously, both variables accounted for 92% of the variance in learning motivation, with audiovisual media being the dominant factor. These findings suggest that integrating audiovisual media in mathematics education can effectively boost student motivation, offering a more engaging alternative to conventional literacy-focused instruction. This research contributes empirical evidence for educators and policymakers on the benefits of innovative media in learning design, particularly in diverse and challenging school contexts. Future studies are recommended to expand sample size, explore additional variables such as teacher competence or school environment, and apply qualitative methods for deeper insights into the learning process.

Abstract

Breast milk is the optimal source of nutrition for infants, but exclusive breastfeeding rates in Indonesia and globally remain below target, largely due to maternal anxiety, insufficient milk production, and inadequate support systems. Innovative, integrative interventions that address both physiological and psychological barriers are urgently needed to support successful lactation outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Stimulasi Pijat Endorphin, Oksitosin, dan Sugestif (SPEOS) method—an integrative technique combining oxytocin massage, endorphin massage, and positive suggestion—in increasing breast milk production among postpartum mothers at PMB Fatimah Bandungrejosari, Malang. A quasi-experimental posttest-only control group design was implemented, involving 36 postpartum mothers (days 1–40) who were divided equally into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received the SPEOS method (20-minute sessions for nine consecutive days), while the control group received only standard informational leaflets. Data on breast milk production were collected using validated observation sheets and baby scales, and analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods, including the Mann-Whitney test. The findings revealed that 66.7% of mothers in the SPEOS group achieved high breast milk production, compared to just 16.7% in the control group. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant difference between groups (p = 0.002). The SPEOS intervention demonstrated not only physiological benefits, through hormonal stimulation, but also psychological benefits, by improving maternal confidence and emotional well-being. The SPEOS method is an effective, holistic, and easily adopted intervention for enhancing breast milk production in postpartum mothers. Its integrative approach, targeting both hormonal and psychological pathways, makes it suitable for inclusion in maternal health education and practice. This research supports the integration of the SPEOS method into midwifery education and practice as a low-cost, evidence-based strategy to promote exclusive breastfeeding, maternal empowerment, and optimal infant health. The study provides a foundation for further research and broader implementation in diverse healthcare settings. Larger-scale and longer-term studies are recommended to confirm these findings, explore additional maternal and infant health outcomes, and refine SPEOS implementation protocols for various populations.

Abstract

Anxiety disorders represent one of the most prevalent mental health challenges globally, with athletes—especially those in high-pressure sports such as pencak silat—facing unique vulnerabilities due to the intense physical, psychological, and cultural demands of competition. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions in reducing anxiety disorder symptoms among adolescent pencak silat athletes at Cempaka Putih Ranting Jombang, Indonesia. Employing a quasi-experimental, one-group time series design, the research involved seven athletes who underwent a structured mindfulness program delivered over three weeks. Data were collected through validated self-report questionnaires (BAI and SCAT) and qualitative interviews, measured at four pre- and four post-intervention points. The results demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in anxiety symptoms across cognitive, emotional, somatic, and behavioral domains, with athletes reporting increased self-regulation, improved emotional stability, and enhanced overall well-being. The findings highlight the substantial benefits of integrating mindfulness practices into athlete training routines, especially in culturally rooted martial arts environments where traditional mental health resources may be limited or stigmatized. This research contributes to the literature by providing robust, contextually grounded evidence of mindfulness efficacy for adolescent martial artists—a group largely underrepresented in sports psychology research. For practical implementation, sports organizations and coaches are encouraged to incorporate mindfulness strategies within athlete development programs to support psychological resilience and performance. Future research should employ larger samples, randomized controlled designs, and extended follow-up periods to assess the long-term effects and broader applicability of mindfulness interventions in diverse athletic and cultural contexts.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are especially susceptible to reproductive tract infections, including pathological vaginal discharge (leucorrhea), which can negatively affect their quality of life and academic performance. While pharmacological treatments exist, their use may be constrained by side effects, cost, antibiotic resistance, and limited access in low-resource settings. Herbal remedies such as soursop (Annona muricata) leaf decoction are gaining recognition for their antimicrobial and antifungal benefits, but experimental evidence among Indonesian adolescents remains scarce. This study evaluated the effectiveness of soursop leaf decoction wash in reducing pathological vaginal discharge among tenth-grade female students at SMA An-Nur Bululawang, Malang. A pre-experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design was used with 25 purposively selected participants. The intervention involved a soursop leaf decoction wash administered twice daily for seven days. Vaginal discharge status was assessed before and after intervention using validated questionnaires and observation sheets. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. After the intervention, there was a significant reduction in both the incidence and severity of pathological vaginal discharge. Prior to treatment, 56% had mild discharge, while post-intervention, 96% had no discharge. The mean discharge score dropped from 1.88 (SD = 0.83) to 1.04 (SD = 0.20), with statistical significance (p = 0.000). Soursop leaf decoction wash proved to be an effective, safe, and culturally accepted intervention to reduce pathological vaginal discharge in adolescent girls. This suggests its potential as a complementary or alternative therapy alongside conventional treatments. Integrating herbal interventions with reproductive health education in schools can empower adolescents with accessible, preventive options. Further research with larger, randomized samples and longer follow-up is recommended to confirm efficacy and safety.

Abstract

The use of visual materials is an uncommon practice in art history teaching, including in Eastern Art History courses. Visual materials are believed to help students understand complex cultural and strengthen understanding of abstract concept. This study aims to analyze the cognitive visual learning theory that underlies the teaching practice of the course, especially in terms of the use of visual aids and lecture methods, and to examine its compatibility with visual and cognitive learning theories. This research used a participatory approach with descriptive qualitative methods. Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews with students, and analysis of learning documents. Analysis was conducted using thematic matrix technique to identify patterns and themes from the data obtained. The results showed that visual and cognitive learning theories were used in learning. Visual aids such as pictures, slides, and videos help students understand the material more deeply and strengthen memory. Meanwhile, lectures provide a cognitive structure that supports information processing. Students stated that the combination of visual and verbal is very important in improving their understanding of Eastern Art History materials. This reseach confirm the importance of aligning practice and learning theory.
