Abstract

Educational values play important role in the human lives. These values are found in many literary works. Play is a literary works portrayed many educational values. This study aims to analyze the important of educational values portrayed and to investigate how the educational values integrated in The Importance of Being earnest play by Oscar Wilde in people education. The qualitative approach is applied this study. It studied the data in written or oral word descriptively. The primary data is taken from the script of The Importance of Being earnest play. It also uses references on literary books and some relevant materials as its secondary data to support and complete each other. This study found that The Importance of Being earnest play portrayed the following educational values: responsible, curiosity, creative, hard work, honest, and discipline. Besides, Oscar Wilde also ask the reader to become earnest in everyone in our life.

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of using Kahoot! application on students’ vocabulary at seventh grade of SMPN 6 Bekasi. This research was conducted in the academic year 2021/2022. This research method uses an experimental design. The sample of this study consisted of 40 students at the seventh grade and divided the students into 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. This data was obtained by conducting a post test on the students. The post test for the experimental class is given through the Kahoot! application while the control class is given via Google Form. The reliability test analysis was carried out in this study using the SPSS program, with a value of 0.609 it can be said that the test is valid. The results of the post-test from both classes showed that the score of the experimental class was 1900 and the control class was 1470 which means there is a difference between the results of the post-test control class and the experimental class. This shows that the t test value has a significance level

Abstract

Learning language will be easier to master when you are a child, but the current curriculum in Indonesia places English language lessons as additional content. So activities are needed to motivate children to learn English. This article aims to introduce English to elementary school students. In this activity, the service applies games to attract students' interest. The application of games is based on the consideration that children at this age still like to play and it will be easier to attract the attention of elementary school students through games. There were 150 community service participants at SDIT Assalam Green School with the theme. Fun English with Games. After this activity was carried out, information was obtained that 99.3% of students liked this activity, 96.6% stated that through game activities made students enthusiastic about learning English, 97.3% stated that this activity increased knowledge related to English, and 98.6% stated that this activity made students want to learn English. Thus it can be concluded that there is an increase in English language knowledge obtained by students at SDIT Assalam Green School.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of Headlinese and the topic value of Headlines News in the daily online news publication "THE JAKARTA POST”. Headlinese refers to a style of writing commonly used in Headlines News, characterized by condensed phrases, abbreviations, and present tense verbs. The research aims to analyze the prevalence of Headlinese in Headlines News and identify the prominent topics covered by " THE JAKARTA POST " during the month of August 2023. The research methodology involves collecting Headlines News from " THE JAKARTA POST " archives for the specified time frame and conducting a word-by-word analysis to identify the stylistic features of Headlinese. Additionally, the study categorizes the Headlines News based on their topic value, including politics, economics, sports, arts, and other relevant themes. The findings reveal the frequency of occurrence of specific words and phrases across multiple editions of Headlines News, providing insights into the linguistic patterns and thematic trends in " THE JAKARTA POST”. The analysis also highlights the effectiveness of Headlinese in conveying information succinctly and capturing readers' attention. Based on the results, implications for English teachers, students, readers, and other researchers are discussed, along with suggestions for future studies in the field of Headlines News analysis and journalistic language.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of the Microsoft Teams application in teaching essay writing skills to students in class XI SMA Bangun Cipta Rumbia, Lampung. Based on the result of preliminary observation shows that students learning outcome was still low and there were some problems related to the impact of their writing skills that still have not achieved the expected aims. This research used the action research method, involving 30 students. Quantitative data was taken from the results of comparing the results of writing essays on initial conditions (pre-cycle), cycle 1, and cycle 2, while qualitative data was taken during observation and action. The results showed that there was an increase in learning activities and learning outcomes in writing essays for students. This increase is known from the percentage of students' activeness in participating in the learning process has increased, the results obtained in cycle 2 the percentage of "very active" and "active" was 30% and the percentage of "less active" and "very less active" decreased by 23.33%. The results of students' essay writing skills also increased, this increase can be seen from the percentage of the mastery score of essay writing in Cycle 1 of 63.33%, then experienced a significant increase in Cycle 2 with the percentage of completeness value of 73.33%. This means that the application of the Microsoft Teams application based on technological developments has a positive impact on the development of students in the learning process, especially essay writing skills.

Abstract

This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of research on English education indexed in Scopus Q1 journals using VOSviewer in 2023. The analysis aims to identify trends in research methodology and topics in English language teaching, focusing on key skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The study takes a quantitative method, collecting data from Scopus and analyzing co-occurrence connections between terms. The findings suggest two key clusters of topics: one concentrated on "English language skills" and their relationship to current teaching techniques like as e-learning, particularly during the COVID-19 epidemic, and the other on language requirements in military education. The findings help to understand the history of English language education research and lay the groundwork for future studies in the discipline

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate how the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method can improve students' speaking skills at SMK ALAM KARYA SUKAWANGI BEKASI during the 2023-2024 academic year. This study was conducted using Classroom Action Research (CAR) over two cycles, involving 28 students from Class XI as research subjects. Each cycle consisted of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results indicated a significant improvement in speaking skills among the students. By the end of the second cycle, 27 out of 28 students (96%) exceeded the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM), while only one student (4%) remained below this threshold. The application of the CLT method not only enhanced the students’ speaking abilities but also increased their overall engagement in the learning process.This research highlights the effectiveness of innovative teaching models, specifically the use of the action research method in improving English learning outcomes for students. The findings have important implications for educational policy development, particularly in enhancing the quality of students’ learning achievements. Overall, the study provides valuable insights for educators looking to adopt more effective teaching strategies in language education.

English Language Education Study Program, Pancasakti University.2024. The objective of research is to study effect the students’ poor performance in speaking English . It was consisted of the class of 22 students in Paket C Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar Kota Bekasi in academic year of 2023/2024. The research of this study was conducted by using classroom action research. The data used in this research were quantitative and qualitative data and the instruments of collecting data were used such as Pre-Test and Post-test, interview sheet, observation and photography. The quantitative data were taken from the test. The test was given to the students in from of pre-test, post test in Cycle 1 and Post Test in Cycle 2. Both internal and external forces are involved, according to the findings of the observation and interview. Internal psychological factors include low motivation, anxiety of making a mistake, and a lack of confidence in one's ability to speak English. The primary cause is poor speech, grammar, and vocabulary. The second external factor is the absence of spoken English and the application of the central teacher technique. The study's findings showed that students' use of question games improved their learning outcomes. Two cycles are used to implement the game. There are four components to every cycle: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The learning activity was improved with the inclusion of Cycles 1 and 2. Question games can help students improve their speaking abilities in two ways. The first was that question games could make pupils less bored, and the second was that they could encourage them to learn English.

Abstract

Improving Student Speaking Skill Throught Collaborative Learning Strategy At Smpit Ummi Abiyyi Serang Baru Thesis. Bekasi : Panca Sakti University Bekasi (2024). This study aims to improve the speaking skills of seventh-grade students at SMP IT Ummi Abbiyi Serang Baru through a collaborative learning method using the Team-Game-Tournament (TGT) technique. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through speaking tests, observations, and interviews to assess the accuracy, fluency, and comprehensibility of students' English-speaking abilities. The results indicated a significant improvement in students' speaking skills from the first to the second cycle, with increased active participation and an average score rise from 60% to 74%. Although some students still struggled with fluency and accuracy, most showed progress in understanding the material and speaking with greater confidence. The TGT technique in collaborative learning proved effective in enhancing students' speaking skills, particularly in teamwork, confidence, and comprehension of the material.
