Abstract

Antibiotic resistance (AR) has emerged as a critical global public health concern, particularly due to the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and their genes in natural environments. The oceans, which host diverse ecosystems and serve as major food sources, are increasingly affected by ARB pollution, originating from human, agricultural, and industrial activities. Simultaneously, climate change (CC) exacerbates the situation by raising ocean temperatures, lowering pH, and altering marine biodiversity—creating optimal conditions for bacterial survival and gene transfer. This review explores the interconnectedness between ocean pollution and CC and how both factors influence the distribution and persistence of ARB and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in marine ecosystems. Through a systematic literature review of 174 peer-reviewed articles, the study highlights how anthropogenic pollutants—especially antibiotics, heavy metals, and plastics—contribute to resistance emergence. Furthermore, it discusses the transmission pathways from pollution hotspots (e.g., hospitals, agriculture, wastewater) to the oceans. The One Health (OH) strategy is presented as a comprehensive solution to address the environmental, human, and animal health risks posed by antibiotic pollution. This paper serves as a basis for future research into surveillance, mitigation, and policy interventions for controlling AR in marine environments.

Abstract

Inguinal hernia is a condition where a bulge occurs in the groin area and is the most common type of hernia with 75% of all abdominal wall hernias. The diagnosis of inguinal hernia can be made easily through physical examination, where the lump can be seen or felt when pressed on the external inguinal ring. In this case study, a 51-year-old man complained of a lump on the right underarm to the scrotum area that had been painful since 1 day before admission to the hospital. The lump had been felt since 2 years ago, but the lump seemed to disappear. The patient was diagnosed with incarcerated lateral inguinal hernia from the results of anamnesis, physical examination, supporting examination, and performed hernioraphy with mash graft.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the relationship between Problematic Internet Use and Sleep Quality among university students. This is a quantitative study that employs a bivariate correlation analysis method. The total number of respondents in this study was 106 individuals, consisting of 30 males and 76 females, aged between 18 and 23 years. The study used two scales as data collection instruments: a sleep quality scale and a Problematic Internet Use scale. The hypothesis was tested using bivariate correlation analysis to determine whether there is a significant relationship between sleep quality and Problematic Internet Use among students. The results support the hypothesis, indicating a significant positive relationship between Problematic Internet Use and sleep quality, with a significance value of p = 0.001 (p < 0.005) and a correlation coefficient of R = 0.227. This means that the higher the level of Problematic Internet Use, the better the sleep quality among students. Conversely, the lower the Problematic Internet Use, the poorer the sleep quality.

Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is common for patients, especially those who will undergo spinal anesthesia. The level of anxiety can vary, from mild anxiety to panic attacks, which can potentially affect the outcome of surgery and the recovery process. To overcome this problem, rose aromatherapy with a diffuser offers a non-pharmacological solution. A study was conducted in the Operating Room of PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital to determine the effect of rose aromatherapy on the level of anxiety of pre-operative patients with spinal anesthesia. This study used a pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design, which showed that rose aromatherapy can significantly reduce anxiety levels in patients who will undergo surgery with spinal anesthesia. This study involved 30 respondents selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed statistically using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the analysis showed a significance value of 0.000, which means that there is a significant effect of giving rose aromatherapy on the level of patient anxiety. In other words, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Conclusion, rose aromatherapy is proven to be effective in reducing pre-operative anxiety in patients with spinal anesthesia at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital. This study is expected to be an additional reference for future research and provide valuable information for health workers in pre-operative anxiety intervention efforts.

Abstract

Prolonged sitting habits among university students increase the risk of postural abnormalities such as forward head posture and rounded shoulders, which may lead to low back pain and reduced quality of life. The lack of postural awareness and limited preventive interventions on campuses are pressing issues to address. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of an educational and corrective exercise program consisting of back strengthening and mobility exercises on improving student posture. This study applied a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 students with ≥4 hours/day of sitting participated in a 4-week intervention program (3 sessions per week). Measured parameters included Forward Head Posture (FHP), Rounded Shoulder Posture (RSP), and the Postural Awareness Scale (PAS). Data were analyzed using paired t-tests. The results indicated significant reductions in FHP (mean decrease of 2.30 cm) and RSP (mean decrease of 7.2°), along with a significant increase in PAS scores (mean increase of 15.49 points) with p < 0.01. The program effectively improved both postural alignment and awareness. A combination of postural education and corrective exercises is effective in improving student posture. This intervention is recommended as a preventive and promotive approach to musculoskeletal health in university settings.

Abstract

Sexual violence among adolescents is an increasingly serious issue, exacerbated by limited knowledge and lack of education, which heightens their vulnerability. One innovative approach to addressing this problem is the use of educational applications such as BEYDI (Self-Empowerment), designed to enhance adolescents’ awareness and knowledge of sexual violence prevention. This study aimed to determine the effect of BEYDI application-based education on students’ knowledge regarding sexual violence prevention at SMPN 3 Lamongan. The study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population consisted of 63 eighth-grade students from classes 8A and 8B, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using pretest and posttest questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results indicated a significant increase in students’ knowledge after receiving the educational intervention via the BEYDI application (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that the BEYDI app-based education was effective in enhancing students’ knowledge of sexual violence prevention and can be considered an interactive and efficient alternative educational tool in the school setting.
