Abstract

The study is based on the growing need for educational practices that not only develop twenty-first-century competencies but also preserve cultural values and local identities. This study aims to examine the integration of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) approach and local wisdom in early childhood education through a library research method. This study employed a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected from various scholarly sources, including journal articles, books, conference proceedings, and policy documents related to STEAM education, local wisdom, and early childhood learning. The collected literature was analyzed using content analysis to identify key concepts, implementation strategies, benefits, and challenges associated with the integration of STEAM and local wisdom. The findings of this study indicate that STEAM learning fosters critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills through interdisciplinary activities and experiences. Meanwhile, local wisdom provides meaningful cultural contexts that strengthen children’s cultural identity, environmental awareness, and appreciation of community values. The integration of STEAM and local wisdom creates culturally responsive learning experiences that support holistic child development while fostering both global competencies and local cultural preservation. Therefore, this integrated approach can serve as an innovative and sustainable educational model for enhancing the quality of early childhood education in diverse cultural settings.

Abstract

Learning planning is a strategic foundation in the educational process because it allows teachers to organize objectives, materials, methods, media, and evaluation in a targeted manner. This article aims to reconstruct Arabic language learning planning through a synthesis of the systems approach and the humanistic approach. This study uses library research methods with a conceptual approach and descriptive-critical analysis. The results of the study indicate that the systems approach remains important as a structural foundation for Arabic language learning planning, but has limitations when used alone because it tends to be technical and administrative, and less sensitive to the individual needs of learners. Meanwhile, the humanistic approach contributes to placing learners at the center of learning, paying attention to affective and psychological aspects, and encouraging more adaptive, participatory, and meaningful learning. Based on this, this article offers a conceptual model for humanistic-system-based Arabic language learning planning, which includes analysis of student needs, formulation of integrative objectives, systematic and contextual organization of materials, selection of adaptive methods and media, implementation of participatory learning, and comprehensive and reflective evaluation. In conclusion, the reconstruction of humanistic-system-based Arabic language learning planning produces a more complete planning paradigm, namely remaining systematic but simultaneously oriented towards holistic student development.

Abstract

The proliferation of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools in education has prompted urgent questions about their impact on higher-order cognitive skills. In science education, where critical thinking and scientific reasoning are foundational, understanding how GenAI reshapes these competencies is essential. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following PRISMA 2020 guidelines to synthesize empirical evidence on the effects of GenAI on students' critical thinking skills in science learning contexts. A comprehensive search across Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar databases spanning 2020-2026 identified 25 eligible studies. Findings reveal a conditional dual impact: GenAI enhances critical thinking when integrated within structured inquiry and problem-based frameworks, but poses risks of cognitive over-reliance and surface-level processing when used without pedagogical scaffolding. Critical moderating factors include AI literacy, instructional design quality, teacher facilitation, and task structure. The novelty of this review lies in its exclusive focus on the intersection of GenAI, critical thinking, and science education. Implications for curriculum designers, science teachers, and policymakers in developing-country contexts are discussed

Abstract

This study explores learning strategies for early childhood education in remote and coastal areas, focusing on how contextual, community-based, outdoor, and technology-supported approaches can improve the quality of learning for young children in geographically isolated regions. Using a qualitative literature review method, this research analyzes scholarly articles, journals, and academic publications related to early childhood education practices in rural, remote, and coastal contexts published between 2020 and 2025. The findings indicate that contextual and community-based learning strategies, which integrate local wisdom and involve active participation from families and community members, significantly enhance children’s engagement, cultural identity, and developmental outcomes. In addition, outdoor learning in natural coastal environments provides meaningful experiential learning opportunities that support cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional development while fostering environmental awareness. Furthermore, technology integration serves as a complementary strategy to overcome geographical barriers by improving access to learning resources and supporting teacher professional development, although challenges such as limited infrastructure and digital literacy remain. The study concludes that a blended approach combining local-context learning, nature-based education, and digital innovation is essential to ensuring equitable and high-quality early childhood education in remote and coastal areas, while also promoting sustainable educational development.

Abstract

Women's education constitutes one of the important issues in the history of Islamic education in Indonesia. Amid the limited access to education for women, Rahmah El Yunusiyah developed an Islamic educational model through Diniyyah Puteri that aimed to cultivate knowledgeable, morally upright, and empowered women. This study aims to analyze the philosophical foundations of women's education in the thought of Rahmah El Yunusiyah, reconstruct the concept of the Islamic Model of Women's Emancipation that she developed, and explain its contribution to the social transformation of Minangkabau women. The study employs the history of ideas method, consisting of the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The data sources consist of historical documents of Diniyyah Puteri, archival records, and various relevant literature. The findings reveal that women's education according to Rahmah is founded upon tawhid, the integration of knowledge, adab, self-reliance, and social responsibility. Through Diniyyah Puteri, women were prepared to become agents of change capable of integrating Islamic identity, Minangkabau tradition, and the demands of modernity. This concept represents a model of Islamic emancipation that differs from both patriarchal paradigms and secular feminism. The study concludes that Rahmah El Yunusiyah's thought offers a paradigm of Islamic education that positions education as an instrument of empowerment, character formation, and the social transformation of women within Muslim society.

Abstract

Environmental education plays a strategic role in shaping pro-environmental behavior, particularly among Generation Z university students who have grown up amidst rapid digital technological advancements and heightened awareness of sustainability issues. This study aims to describe the role of environmental education specifically within the "Environmental Education" course in fostering pro-environmental behavior among Generation Z students through the application of a project-based learning model. The findings indicate that experiential learning approaches, such as project-based learning combined with the use of digital media, make a tangible contribution to enhancing knowledge, shaping pro-environmental behavior, and promoting eco-friendly practices among Generation Z students. This learning model strengthens ecological awareness while simultaneously driving real behavioral changes within the university environment. However, the implementation of environmental education faces several challenges, including the gap between understanding and actual action (the value-action gap), limited campus support facilities, and a strong culture of consumerism that influences Generation Z students' behavior. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the curriculum by focusing not only on conceptual mastery but also on developing environmental action skills through behavior-based evaluations, student participation incentives, and the provision of campus policies and infrastructure that support sustainable practices. Through such a comprehensive approach, environmental education in higher education is expected to produce a young generation that possesses strong environmental literacy and acts as an agent of change, capable of initiating and disseminating sustainability practices within the wider community.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education (ECE) plays a fundamental role in supporting children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development during the most critical years of life. This study aims to examine the physical and inner structures of the poem “Aunty” by Tarida Ilham Manurung using the perspective of I.A. Richards’ theory of poetry structure. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a formal structuralism approach. The data consisted of the intrinsic elements of the poem collected through careful reading and note-taking techniques. The analysis of the physical structure focused on diction, imagery, figurative language, rhythm, and rhyme, while the inner structure was analyzed through theme, feeling, tone, and message. The findings reveal that the physical structure of the poem is constructed through the selection of diction representing the geographical setting of Penang, the use of metaphorical expressions such as the symbol of “two shirts,” and the application of assonance rhyme with the vowel sound i, which creates a melancholic atmosphere through a descending rhythm. These elements strengthen the inner meaning of the poem, particularly in expressing themes of loss, longing, and the representation of a mother figure replaced by the figure of “Aunty” (Saadah Zainal Abidin). This study demonstrates that the integration of physical and inner structures plays an important role in constructing the aesthetic experience and emotional meaning of poetry. The implications of this research are expected to contribute to the development of literary criticism studies, particularly poetry appreciation learning in higher education, as well as enrich contemporary Indonesian literary studies.
