Abstract

Lubab al-Ta’wil fī Ma‘ani al-Tanzil by ‘Ala’ al-Din ‘Ali ibn Muhammad al-Khazin (d. 741 AH) is a significant classical tafsir work in Islamic scholarship. Compiled in the 8th century H, this work serves as a summarized version of al-Baghawi’s Ma‘alim al-Tanzil and al-Nasafi’s Madarik al-Tanzil, aiming to streamline complex commentaries while retaining their essential messages. This study explores the methodological framework employed by al-Khazin in interpreting the Qur’an, using a qualitative library research approach with content analysis as the primary method. The findings reveal that al-Khazin adopted the analytical (tahlili) method with a dominant reliance on transmitted reports (bi al-ma’tsur), though he also utilized rational interpretation (bi al-ra’y) where appropriate. His exegetical style reflects strong historical, legal, and spiritual dimensions. The distinctiveness of his tafsir lies in his meticulous hadith sourcing, critical stance toward unreliable isra’iliyyat, detailed elaboration on juridical issues, and integration of Sufi insights rooted in prophetic traditions. This research underscores the importance of a methodological reading of classical tafsir to bridge the gap between textual interpretation and contemporary contextual understanding.Keywords: Tafsir al-Khazin, tafsir methodology, classical exegesis, bi al-ma’tsur, historical approach.

Abstract

This paper examines the interpretation of verses on blasphemy related to freedom of opinion and expression and explores the law of these verses using the Żarāi’ theory. Żarāi’ theory attempts to read the various intermediaries that cause something to happen and prevent intermediaries that cause something that contains evil and damage. Application of the Żarāi’ theory to QS. al-An’ām/6:108 and QS. al-Taubah/9: 64-65 produces a law that every act that can cause blasphemy must be prevented in order to avoid the evils resulting from blasphemy and things that can prevent blasphemy must be encouraged. Application of the Żarāi’ theory to this verses produces a law that freedom of opinion and expression that can trigger blasphemy must be avoided and prevented early on and things that can prevent freedom of opinion and expression from elements of blasphemy must be encouraged.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of textual and contextual approaches in understanding the message of the Qur’an through a comparative study. The textual approach emphasizes the literal meaning and linguistic structure of the verses, while the contextual approach considers the historical, social, and cultural dimensions surrounding the revelation. Using a qualitative method based on literature review, this study analyzes primary and secondary sources relevant to Qur’anic exegesis. The findings indicate that the contextual approach offers a more responsive understanding of contemporary issues, whereas the textual approach is essential to preserve the integrity and purity of the Qur’anic message. The integration of both approaches is proposed as an ideal model for interpreting the Qur’an comprehensively and contextually. This article contributes to the development of Qur’anic exegesis methodology that is adaptive to modern social dynamics.Keywords: Qur’anic Interpretation; Textual Approach; Contextual Approach; Comparative Study

Abstract

Makalah ini mengulas Tafsir Tanwîr al-Miqbâs min Tafsîr Ibn Abbas, sebuah karya tafsir yang dikaitkan dengan Ibn Abbas, sahabat Nabi yang dikenal sebagai turjuman al-Qur'an. Kajian ini memiliki urgensi tersendiri karena tafsir tersebut kerap dijadikan rujukan dalam memahami makna ayat-ayat Al-Qur'an secara tekstual. Pembahasan utama dalam makalah ini adalah mengkaji keakuratan sanad riwayat yang digunakan dalam Tanwîr al-Miqbâs serta melakukan perbandingan dengan Tafsir Ibn Abbas wa Marwiyyatuhu fi Tafsir. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi literatur dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Tanwîr al-Miqbâs menggunakan metode ijmali (global), dengan penafsiran yang disajikan secara ringkas dan mudah dipahami. Namun, kelemahan utama dari tafsir ini terletak pada sanad yang lemah dan tidak lengkap, sehingga menimbulkan keraguan terhadap keautentikan isi penafsirannya. Perbandingan dengan Tafsir Ibn Abbas wa Marwiyyatuhu fi Tafsir mengungkap adanya kesamaan dalam beberapa penafsiran, meskipun terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dalam jalur periwayatannya. Dengan demikian, meskipun Tanwîr al-Miqbâs memiliki nilai penting sebagai rujukan tafsir bi al-ma’tsur, penggunaannya harus dilakukan dengan kehati-hatian karena permasalahan validitas sanad dan keaslian riwayat yang terkandung di dalamnya.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Tafsir Al-Kasysyāf from the perspectives of the author's background, content analysis, and the interpretive dynamics of his time. It is a qualitative study employing a literature-based approach. The primary data source for this research is the exegetical work Al-Kasysyāf ʿan Ḥaqāʾiq Ghawāmiḍ Al-Tanzīl by Imam Al-Zamakhshari. In addition, the study draws on various historical texts, particularly those containing commentaries on Al-Kasysyāf and the historical context surrounding its composition. The findings of this study indicate that Tafsir Al-Kasysyāf represents a rich intellectual legacy and may serve as a valuable reference in the field of Qur’anic exegesis generally, and specifically for understanding the Muʿtazilite school of thought in a comprehensive and objective manner.Keywords:  Al-Kasysyāf, Al-Zamakhsyari, Mu’tazilite

Abstract

This paper will trace the context of the parable in the Qur'an (amtsal al-Qur'an) by highlighting the criteria clearly of the amtsal described in the Qur'an. In addition, comparing the qur'anic amtsal between the kaminah amtsal and the mursalah amtsal which is not explicitly explained regarding its criteria as  the qur'an amtsal but by scholars has a contestation that amtsal mursalah falls into the category of amtsal. Some scholars say it does not fall into the realm of amtsal.  However, other scholars are not an obstacle when one wants to make the Qur'an an amtsal. Because the Quran essentially wants to be read, studied, recited until its mentadabburi. This paper uses library research with Mahmud Syahata's theory that the Qur'an shows its miracles through language style (asalib) which explains with a variety of meanings and wisdom for humans, both sensory and non-sensable, visible or not, contemporary problems to ukhrawi problems as a way to get mau'idzah hasanah.  The author's provisional finding that the variety  of amtsals of the Qur'an is essentially something that opens the horizons of human thought not to leave the Qur'an and continue to study it as a way to see the current context that cannot be separated from the image that Allah narrates in the Qur'an.
