Abstract

This research aimed at findings (1) Students’ perceptions on the use of WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform in learning English; (2) The challenges faced by students of Madrasah Aliyah Swasta DDI CITTA in using WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform in learning English. The methodology of this research was descriptive quantitative and qualitative method.The population is 118 students at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta DDI CITTA.The sample consist of 30 students that took randomly at Madrasah Aliyah Swasta DDI CITTA. The instruments used in this research were questionnaire and interview. The findings shows that from 20 items on questionnaire, disagree and strongly disagree has the highest percentage on positive statement. Disagree had a percentage of 30-63% and strongly disagree had a percentage of 26,67-60%.Then, agree and strongly agree had the highest percentage on negative statements. Agree had a of 20-73% and strongly agree had a percentage of of 20-70%. Meanwhile interview results show that there were three challenges faced by students in using WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform namely, students did not understand the material, bad network and internet data. Based on the data obtained, the researcher concludes that students gave negative perceptions on the use of WhatsApp as a mobile learning platform in learning English.

Abstract

The main objective of this research was to find out the students’ difficulties in speaking at SMP PGRI Barembeng and the students’ strategies in overcoming their difficulties in writing narrative text This research used descriptive quantitative method. The participants of this research were the students’ at SMP PGRI Barembeng. The sample of this research were 44 students taken by purposive sampling technique. The researcher used the writing test as the instrument of this research. Based on the research findings, there were two students’ difficulties those were; lack of vocabulary, lack of confidence and lack of grammar. The researcher also found 23 students’ strategies in overcoming writing difficulties at SMP PGRI Barembeng, those were; memory strategy, cognitive strategy, affective strategy and social strategy.

Abstract

This research aimed to know the speaking ability students when use the Screencast-O-Matic Application at the second grade of MA Darul Fath Pangkep. This research utilized a pre-experimental research method with a quantitative approach which involved 15 samples of the students in the Eleven class IPS at MA Darul Fath Pangkep. This research instrument is a picture of place they had to describe with oral presentation. The research result shows an improvement in the students' speaking ability expecially in fluency after recognize and use the Screencast-O-Matic Applications. It proved the post- test mean score was more significant than the pre-test (71.66>65.33). From the t- test researcher found, the value of the t-test was more excellent than the t-table (4.03>2.14479) at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) = 14, which means that there was a significant difference between students' speaking before and after applying Screencast-O-Matic. It is also said that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected, and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. The result of the research was effective in students' speaking fluency.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out whether Instagram can increase the students’ Pronunciation skill. The research was obtained at the eighth-grade students of SMPN 33 Makassar. Using Quasi Experimental by taking 2 classes as samples and each class including 28 students. So, the total number of all samples are 56 students. This research found that Instagram videos can increase the students’ Pronunciation skill. The improvement can be seen by mean score of Pre-test in Experimental class was 44.64 and mean score of Post-test was 66.43. Meanwhile, mean score of Pre-test in Controlled class was 47.50 and mean score of Post-test was 42.50. This research Hypothesis concluded that Ha was accepted and Ho was refused showed by the T-test value was greater than the T-table (6.461>1.703), it means that using Instagram videos can increase the students’ English Pronunciation skill.

Abstract

This thesis aims at finding out whether or not the use of Electronic U-Dictionary effective to improve non English students’ vocabulary mastery. This research is pre-experimental research with pre-test and post-test design. The pretest was given before giving treatment and the posttest was given after giving treatment. The population of the research was the fourth semester students of PGSD Study Program in Muhammadiyah University of Makassar academic year 2022-2023. There are thirteen classes where each class consist of 25 students, so the sum of the population is 325. The sampling technique used is cluster random sampling. The researcher used one class as the sample which contained 25 students. To get the data, the researcher used vocabulary test as the instrument. The data were then analyzed by using SPSS. The results of the statistical analysis shows that the mean score of the pre-test is 53,5 and post-test is 81,6. The result of P=0.00 while α=0.05. it could be that α is higher than P with degree of freedom (df) = 25-1 = 24. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted and null hypothesis (H0) rejected. Based on analysis of the result, it could be summed up that the use of Electronic U-Dictionary is effective in teaching vocabulary.
