Abstract

Mastery of English tenses is a fundamental component in achieving proficiency in English grammar. However, many senior high school students continue to face persistent challenges in understanding and using tenses correctly. This study aims to analyze the types and causes of students’ difficulties in learning English tenses at the senior high school level. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through classroom observations, student questionnaires, and interviews with English teachers. The findings reveal that the major difficulties encountered by students include confusion in differentiating tense functions, limited vocabulary, lack of practice, and interference from their first language. Moreover, instructional approaches that do not emphasize contextual usage also contribute to students’ misunderstanding. Based on the results, the study suggests that teachers adopt more communicative and contextualized strategies in teaching tenses, such as integrating grammar with speaking and writing activities. This research provides insights into improving grammar instruction to support better learning outcomes in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new opportunities for enhancing English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, particularly in speaking skills. This conceptual study proposes an AI-assisted speaking practice model that integrates ChatGPT into the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) framework. The model aims to provide learners with interactive, context-rich speaking experiences through AI-generated prompts, role-play simulations, and real-time feedback. Drawing on principles of CLT and task-based learning, the proposed model consists of three main stages: pre-task preparation, AI-mediated communicative tasks, and post-task reflection and feedback. Potential benefits include increased learner motivation, expanded speaking opportunities, personalized practice, and the development of fluency and accuracy in authentic communicative contexts. However, challenges such as digital literacy, potential overreliance on AI, and infrastructure limitations must be addressed to ensure effective implementation. This study offers a practical framework for integrating generative AI tools into EFL speaking instruction and provides recommendations for future empirical research on its classroom application.

Abstract

The social conflict that occurred in Negeri Masihulan, Central Maluku Regency, following Eid al-Fitr 2025 has left serious psychosocial impacts, particularly on children. The trauma experienced by child victims of the conflict has the potential to disrupt their emotional, social, and cognitive development if not promptly addressed. Trauma healing activities have become an essential effort in providing psychosocial support to children, helping them recover from their traumatic experiences. This article aims to describe the implementation of a trauma healing program as both a psychosocial education medium and a form of legal protection for children affected by social conflict in Negeri Masihulan. The program was carried out by lecturers and students of IAIN Ambon in collaboration with the local community. The implementation methods included icebreaking sessions, educational games, group singing, and the delivery of peace messages by traditional leaders and village authorities. The results of the activity indicated positive behavioral changes among the children, who initially displayed signs of anxiety and withdrawal but later became more cheerful, active, and willing to engage in social interactions. In addition to contributing to the psychological recovery of the children, the program also succeeded in fostering a peaceful atmosphere within the community through a local wisdom-based approach. This trauma healing initiative functions not only as a form of social rehabilitation for child victims of conflict but also as part of a learning process to instill social values and peace education integrated with local traditions. The findings suggest that community-based trauma healing programs can serve as effective instruments for social education and conflict resolution, particularly in conflict-prone areas.
