Abstract

Background: The Tropical Tamarind Plant has great economic value and benefits for society, from the stems to the leaves it can be used to treat diseases, such as fever, dyspepsia and even gonorrhoea. The chemical components of Tamarind seeds include alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, glycosides, malic acid, tartrate, pectin, arabinose, xylose, galactose and glucose. Objective: The study was directed to determine the activity of ethanol extract from tamarind seeds in reducing uric acid in mice. Methods: Preparation of dry extract of Tamarind seeds (EKBAJ), phytochemical screening, and testing the activity of reducing uric acid in mice induced by potassium oxonate at various concentrations of EKBAJ. Measure the levels with Easy Touch GCU. Results: EKBAJ can inhibit mouse uric acid synthesis. The higher the concentration of EKBAJ, the greater the effect on reducing uric acid levels. Conclusion: A concentration of 200 mg/kgBW had the greatest effect on reducing uric acid in mice.

Abstract

Background: Chemical drugs are prohibited from being contained in traditional medicine doses. Based on BPOM findings in 2015-2017, almost 100 traditional herbal medicine products contain medicinal chemicals (BKO), including dexamethasone. Objective: Study to determine dexamethasone levels and the level of control in herbal medicine for rheumatic pain in the Lubuk Pakam area. Method: The UV-Fis spectrophotometric method was used for quantitative analysis. Meanwhile, for qualitative analysis, the reagents used were the addition of anhydrous acetic acid and concentrated sulfuric acid. Results: Analysis with the addition of this reagent showed that 5 samples contained dexamethasone. UV-Fis spectrophotometric analysis showed dexamethasone levels in samples A1 to A5 were 4.069; 4,229; 4,416; 11,788; and 5,270 mg/g. Conclusion: The research results showed that all five samples contained Dexamethasone at certain levels in the Lubuk Pakam area, North Sumatra

Abstract

Background: Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is well known as one of the many medicinal plants in the form of rhizomes, both on a home and industrial scale. The chemical components contained in the rhizomes include fat, ascorbate, protein, starch, tannin, curcumin, flavonoids and essential oils. Turmeric is commonly used by people to reduce the frequency of diarrhea. Apart from having chelating properties, it is also anti-inflammatory and even antibacterial. Objective: The study was directed to investigate the potential of ethanol extract of turmeric rhizomes (EERK) on Escherichia coli. Method: Dry rhizome powder was macerated using 96% ethanol, then rotary evaporated to obtain dry turmeric rhizome extract (EKRK), and divided into concentrations of 30%, 40% 50%, positive or negative control. Results: The study shows that there is an influence of EKRK concentration on the antibacterial potential of Escherchia coli. One-way ANOVA described that there was a significant difference (p < 0.010) in the use of various EKRK concentrations as inhibitors of bacterial growth and development. Antibacterial activity at 30, 40, and 50 % was 14.3, 17.5, and 19.7 mm, respectively. Conclusion: EERK has strong potential as an antibacterial for Escherichia coli.

Abstract

Introduction: Managing consumable medical materials involves coordinating activities to ensure they work well together, aiming for effective and efficient management. This ensures doctors always have an adequate supply of high-quality consumable medical materials to support quality services. Objective: This study aimed to describe the Utilization of Consumable Medical Materials at the Pharmacy Warehouse of Depo Rindu B H. Based on the 2019 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Methods: The study utilized direct observation and interviews conducted from May to July 2019. Results: Expenditures in January, February, and March 2019 were 25,726, 22,332, and 24,503 units respectively. Distribution is facilitated through online prescribing and delivery. Observations indicated the use of storage systems such as First In First Out (FIFO) and First Expired First Out (FEFO), organised by dosage form, alphabetical order, and category. Conclusion: Procurement at the Depo Rindu B pharmaceutical warehouse at H. Adam Malik Hospital Medan during the 2019 period was by the applicable 2019 SOP

Abstract

Background: Herb Binara has potential as an antimicrobial against Staphylococcus aureus, because this plant has several compounds that have medicinal properties, including: alkaloids, saponins and flavonoids. This compound can act as a natural antibiotic. Objective: The study was aimed at finding out whether Binara extract has antibacterial potential. Methods: The study was carried out using a disc diffusion system to assess the antibacterial potential of Binara herbal extract. Antibacterial potency is based on the area of obstruction around the disc. The study used four extract concentrations (20, 40, 60, and 80%), clindamycin, and DMSO. Results: Test results for the antibacterial potential of the ethanol extract of Binara herb at a concentration of 80; 60; 40; and 20% each show the resistance area is 12.90; 10.50; 9.00; and 8.10 mm. Conclusion: Binara herb ethanol extract has potential as an antibacterial with moderate to strong potency criteria

Abstract

Background: Hospitals are health service providers providing emergency care, outpatient and inpatient. Hypertension occurs when blood pressure is above normal. Clinical conditions that require dialysis treatment have a tendency to kidney failure. This effort is related to the field of clinical pharmacokinetics. Objective: The study was conducted to analyze the dose of drug administration in conditions complicated by kidney failure in hypertensive patients. Methods: The study went through a sampling stage of data from hypertensive patients complicated by kidney failure, data according to inclusion criteria, calculation of creatinine clearance, analysis of dose adjustments and creatinine clearance. Results: The study obtained 170 data, which met the inclusion criteria of 30 data. Drugs with a narrow therapeutic index and worsening kidney function that patients received included: digoxin, captopril, ranitidine, furosemide, ciprofloxacin, and cefriaxone in 2, 13, 9, 12, 3, and 8 cases respectively. Conclusion: According to dose adjustment calculations for patient creatinine clearance, it was found that the drug exceeded the individual dose in 6 out of 9; 8 of 13; and 2 cases each using ranitidine, captopril, digoxin

Abstract

Background: Vitamin C is very soluble in water and is always used for additional nutrition in the form of supplements. This vitamin is needed by the body because it can increase the body's ability to fight disease and function as a neutralizer of radical particles found in the body, usually referred to as antioxidants. One of them is the Petai Cina plant which is used by the community as a savory flavor in dishes, and can also be used as traditional medicine. Objective: To determine the presence and levels of vitamin C in Petai Cina in the Lubuk Pakam regional market. with quality and quantity analysis. Method: Samples were analyzed qualitatively using a specific color reagent for vitamin C and quality was determined using UV spectrophotometry. Results: The standard vitamin C wavelength is 224.5 nm at a concentration of 4 ppm with the regression equation y = 0.0339x + 0.3922. Qualitatively, it is proven that there is vitamin C in Petai Cina with a quantity of 0.1095 mg/mL. Conclusion: Vitamin is found in Petai Cina with a quantity of 0.1095 circulating in the Lubuk Pakam market

Abstract

Background: Pain is the main reason why patients come to the Emergency Room (IGD) with a prevalence of 78-86%. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) are widely used to treat mild to moderate inflammatory pain. This study looked at the use of NSAIDs in the emergency room pharmacy services at Dr. Pirngadi Medan. Methods: This non-experimental, retrospective descriptive study was conducted at the Emergency Room Pharmacy Service at Dr. RSUD. Pirngadi Medan from January to June 2019. Results: Of the 11,257 NSAIDs used, mefenamic acid 500 mg three times a day (28.69%), diclofenac sodium 50 mg twice a day (24.96%), meloxicam 75 mg twice a day (2.29%), ketorolac injection 30 mg if needed (42.20%), meloxicam 15 mg suppository (0.07%), and proton suppository (1.79%) were given as needed. Conclusion: The use of NSAIDs in the emergency room at Dr. Pirngadi Medan in the January-June 2019 period had the correct indications, doses, drugs and patients.

Abstract

Background: The bark of Vitex pinnata L is not yet optimally utilized, primarily being used in boat construction while the remaining material becomes waste that is either buried or burned in trash. Therefore, it is necessary to explore more efficient and economically valuable uses for the bark of the laban tree. Objective: The aim of this research is to identify the chemical compounds, flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity present in the methanol extract of Vitex pinnata L bark. Method: Phytochemical screening was conducted on the methanol extract of Vitex pinnata L. bark. To obtain the extract, the simplicia powder was macerated using methanol as the solvent. The total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity were then tested using the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryhydrazil (DPPH) method. Results: the phytochemical screening indicated that the Vitex pinnata L. bark extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins. The total flavonoid test yielded 17.27%, and the antioxidant activity test revealed that the methanol extract of the laban tree bark has antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 43.22 ppm. Conclusion: This extract has strong potential as an antioxidant agent.

Abstract

Background: Guava fruit (Psidium guajava L.) is known for its antioxidant properties, attributed to its content of beta carotene and phenolic compounds such as quercetin, guavin, protocatechuic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, caffeic acid, and vitamin C. However, the use of guava fruit flesh in lip balm formulations has not been extensively studied. Objective: This research aims to determine whether the ethanolic extract of guava fruit flesh can be formulated into a lip balm preparation that provides moisture at certain concentrations without irritating the lip skin. Method: This study utilized the guava fruit flesh (Psidium guajava L.) as the test material. Phytochemical analysis and lip balm formulations were prepared at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, along with a blank control. Commercially available products were used as a comparison. The physical quality evaluation of the formulations included tests for homogeneity, pH, melting point, stability, preference, and effectiveness on the lip skin using a moisture checker device. Results: the ethanolic extract of guava fruit flesh (Psidium guajava L.) can be formulated into a lip balm. The pH of the lip balm formulations ranged from 6.0 to 6.2 immediately after preparation and from 5.8 to 6.1 after 12 weeks of storage. The melting point of the formulations was between 58-62°C. The lip balm with a concentration of 7.5% was the most preferred in the preference test. The formulations remained stable in terms of odor, color, and shape over a 12-week storage period. The lip balm with a 10% concentration provided the best moisturizing effect on the lips, achieving a 23.1% improvement, while the commercial comparison product had an average recovery rate of 26.1%, falling under the "moist" category. Conclusion: the ethanolic extract lip balm formulations did not cause any irritation to the skin and potential used as moisturizer
