Abstract

Consonant groups (clusters) are consonants in a row contained in one syllable. In the Sasak language, the Ngeno-ngene dialect in South Tetebatu village, there are many words that are classified as clusters, whereas in the Sasak language, the Ngeno-ngene dialect in other areas, these words are not classified as clusters. The aims of this research are (1) to determine the forms of clusters in the Sasak language, the Ngeno-ngene dialect in Tetebatu Selatan village, (2) to determine the syllabic pattern of each word that contains clusters. Data collection in this research used listening, speaking and introspection methods. The data that has been obtained will be analyzed using the intralingual matching method, the comparison technique of differentiating and comparing the main things. The results of data analysis in this research will be presented using formal and informal methods. The results of the research show that there are several forms of clusters in the Sasak language of the Ngeno-ngene dialect in South Tetebatu village such as [tr], [kl], [tl], [mb], [br], [nd], [pl], [nj ], [ŋg], [str], [pr], [bl], [jl], [bt], [nt], [bk], [bg], [mp], [sr], [ŋk], and [jd]. The syllable pattern formed from words containing consonant clusters in the Sasak language of the Ngeno-ngene dialect in South Tetebatu village is KVK-KKVK, KKVK, KKV-KVK, KKV, KKV-KV, KKV-VK, KKV-KV-KVK , KKV-KVK-KVK, KV-KVK-KKVK, KKV-KV-V, KKKVK, KKV-KV-VK, KKV-V, VK-KKVK, KKVK-KVK, KKV-KV-KV, KKV-1/2KV and KKV-KV-1/2KV.

Abstract

This research aims to categorize the types and functions of code mixing used by one of the contestants in Indonesia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3, Nathalie Kezia. This research used a descriptive-qualitative method to analyze the conversation. The data source was taken from a YouTube channel entitled “Indonesia’s Next Top Model Cycle 3”. The result showed there are three types of code mixing found in the total 43 data; 35 of insertion (82%), 4 of alternation (9%), and 4 of congruent lexicalizations (9%). In the data analyzed, the most dominant type of code mixing is insertion, which indicates that Nathalie frequently inserts one language into another in her utterances. Moreover, it is clear from the findings that Nathalie Kezia used code mixing with several functions, which are 30 data of ‘talking about a particular topic’ (70%), 3 data of ‘being emphatic about something’ (7%), 8 data of ‘interjection’ (18%), and 2 data of ‘intention of clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor’ (5%).

Abstract

The linguistic richness of the Al-Qur'an makes semantic studies very significantly dominant so that readers are able to obtain the meaning and the point of the sentence. This study aimed to analyze the function of interrogative sentences hidden in each interrogative sentence in Surah Muhammad, which is focusing on this implications for education. This research used a qualitative approach content analysis method. The results of the study showed that each interrogative sentence contained in surah Muhammad has various non-literal meanings, thus affecting the implication in education to be different. This research used a qualitative approach content analysis method. In the perspective of education, the function of interrogative sentences can be interpreted as a way of extracting the implied meaning such as the laws and strategies taught by Allah swt. through the Al-Qur’an so that those rules can be applied in real-life situation and become a place for self-reflection to improve the quality of life so that life will be more meaningful and become an example in behavior. Speaking of education is a national investment that must always undergo continuous renewal and improvement with the global demands that provide increasingly complex challenges. The most fundamental sources of education are the Al-Qur’an and sunnah.

Abstract

This study purposes to analyze the pragmatic theories of Oppenheimer movie. This research aims to conduct a pragmatic analysis of presuppositions in the film "Oppenheimer." Presuppositions are implicit assumptions conveyed through language that shape the audience's understanding of the narrative. The study employs tools from pragmatics to investigate how presuppositions are employed in the movie, specifically focusing on their role in shaping character relationships, plot development, and overall discourse. The research methodology involves a close examination of the linguistic and contextual elements within the movie's dialogue and narrative structure. Finding the presuppositions of said movie, categorizes the presupposition theories. Gather all the data and reach a conclusion of the movie. The findings of this study are expected to provide insights into the pragmatic strategies employed by the filmmakers to convey information and evoke specific emotional responses from the audience. Additionally, the research contributes to the broader understanding of presupposition analysis in cinematic discourse, offering a nuanced perspective on how language is used to convey meaning beyond explicit statements. This investigation is particularly relevant in the context of Oppenheimer, a film known for its historical and intellectual depth. By exploring presuppositions in this cinematic context, the study contributes to the interdisciplinary dialogue between linguistics and film studies, shedding light on the intricate ways in which language shapes narrative comprehension in the medium of film.

Abstract

The purposes of this research to find the types of figurative language and to uncover the types of meaning used in the ten minutes song lyrics by Taylor Swift. The research method used is qualitative descriptive method and to collect the data needed, the library research is implemented. The main theories used in this research are the theory of figurative language by Kennedy (1979) and of meaning types by Leech (1981). The result of the research shows respectively that there are 29 data of figurative language found in the lyrics of Taylor Swifts’ song comprising of 10 data (34.5%) on metaphor, 6 data (20.7%) on personification, 5 data (17.2%) on simile, 2 data (6.9%) on symbol, 2 data (6.9%) on hyperbole), 3 data (10.3%) on irony, 1 data (3.5%) on metonymy, but no data (0%) on allision; whereas the data on types of meaning found in the lyrics of Taylor Swifts’ song are 18 data (65.5%) on connotative meaning, 8 data (24.2%) on affective meaning and 3 data (10.3%) on conceptual meaning. The figurative language metaphor (34.5%) and connotative meaning (24.2%) become the most dominant due to the fact that Swift invites the listener to interpret and feel the emotions more intensely, creating a more immersive and evocative listening experience. Other than that, the song lyrics describe the feeling of how painful after breakup and severe betrayal.

This study observes the intricate realm of figurative language contained in the song lyrics of MILI, a Japanese music group known for their ethereal and emotive compositions, specifically within the context of the game "Library of Ruina." The analysis focuses on describing the layers of metaphors, similes, personification, and other figurative elements woven into the lyrics, with the aim of elucidating the poetic and emotional dimensions that contribute to the thematic richness of the music. The methodology involves a comprehensive examination of MILI's lyrics, drawing from a curated selection within the game "Library of Ruina." Employing a qualitative approach, the study identifies and categorizes various forms of figurative language, exploring how these linguistic devices enhance the lyrical narrative and resonate with the overarching themes of the game. The analysis extends beyond linguistic elements to consider the cultural, historical, and aesthetic contexts that shape the use of figurative language in MILI's songwriting. The findings of this research are expected to uncover the nuanced ways in which MILI utilizes figurative language to evoke emotions, convey complex narratives, and contribute to the immersive experience of "Library of Ruina." By marrying elements of linguistics, musicology, and cultural studies, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationship between music and narrative, providing insights into the broader artistic significance of MILI's contributions to the gaming landscape.

Abstract

People use figurative language in order to express themselves. There are many types of figurative language, one of which is comparative figurative language. The objectives of this research are to find out the classification and the types of comparative figurative language found in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics and look for non-literal meanings in them. This research uses a qualitative method to find the types of comparative figurative language and the meaning in the song lyrics.The main data for this research were taken from the lyrics of Justin Bieber’s song containing figurative language, which focused on the classification of comparative figurative language. Since the data analysis was done by collecting, analysing, classifying the data and presenting the results of data analysis, the descriptive research approach was employed in this study. From the analysed data, this research found a total of 42 lyrics that contained comparative figurative language. Personification dominates with the highest total number of 19 (45%), followed by simile with a total number of 16 (38%), and the researcher also found metaphor with a total number of 7 (17%). There are 1 living personification, 8 non-living personifications, 10 abstract personifications, 4 open similes, 12 closed similes, 1 anthropomorphic metaphor, and 6 concrete to abstract metaphors.

Abstract

In the digital age, online platforms like Google Reviews have become significant spaces for individuals to express opinions and feedback. This study aims to investigate the linguistic and pragmatic aspects of positive politeness strategies utilized in the captions of these reviews. Positive politeness, a concept from politeness theory, involves linguistic strategies aimed at enhancing rapport and mitigating potential face-threatening acts. The research employs a qualitative approach, analyzing a diverse set of Google review post captions to identify prevalent positive politeness strategies. Through a detailed examination of linguistic features, such as lexical choices, syntactic structures, and discursive elements, the study seeks to unveil patterns and variations in the use of positive politeness. Additionally, the research delves into the socio-cultural context surrounding the reviews, considering factors that may influence language choices in this digital communication medium. By shedding light on the positive politeness strategies within Google review post captions, this study contributes to the broader field of pragmatics, offering insights into how individuals navigate politeness norms in the online domain. The findings may have implications for understanding online communication dynamics, customer feedback practices, and the role of positive politeness in shaping digital interactions within the context of review platforms like Google.

Abstract

Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana sikap siswa terhadap bahasa Indonesia. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan sikap terhadap bahasa Indonesia siswa di salah satu SMA Negeri di Kota Palembang. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian survei. Pengumpulan data menggunakan angket melalui google form kepada 900 responden. Teknik analisis data pada penelitian ini menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 80% siswa setuju untuk tetap menggunakan bahasa Indonesia pada forum formal baik ditingkat nasional maupun internasional, 96% siswa setuju akan menyesuaikan diri dalam berbicara sesuai dengan siapa yang diajak berbicara hal ini sesuai dengan salah satu aspek sikap bahasa yaitu kesadaran akan norma, sebanyak 93% siswa setuju dengan pernyataan mereka akan mendengarkan penjelasan materi yang sedang diajarkan oleh guru mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Tentunya hal ini juga berkaitan dengan sikap positif yang diperlihatkan oleh para siswa SMA Negeri 18 Palembang. Di sisi yang lain di dalam penelitian ini juga memaparkan bahwa adanya satu aspek sikap bahasa yang mendapatkan respons kurang baik yaitu pada aspek kesetiaan terhadap bahasa Indonesia. Bertolak dari temuan pada penelitian ini, diharapkan dapat melakukan upaya pembinaan terhadap siswa, agar sikap siswa terhadap bahasa Indonesia akan lebih baik lagi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung dalam cerita rakyat Kabupaten Sarolangun. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif, dengan menganalisis cerita rakyat Kabupaten Sarolangun. Data penelitian berupa kalimat dan kutipan dialog. Sumber data adalah buku 13 Cerita Rakyat Kabupaten Sarolangun. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya sejumlah nilai-nilai budaya yang tercermin dalam cerita rakyat tersebut, nilai yang paling menonjol adalah hubungan manusia dengan masyarakat dan hubungan manusia dengan lingkungannya. Penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam mengenai warisan budaya yang dimiliki oleh masyarakat Kabupaten Sarolangun melalui medium cerita rakyat. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pentingnya melestarikan dan menghargai nilai-nilai budaya dalam cerita rakyat sebagai bagian tidak terpisahkan dari identitas budaya lokal.
