Abstract

This study emphasizes the crucial role of the Indonesian government in addressing the emerging issue of human trafficking (TPPO) crimes facilitated by social media, particularly in Cambodia. Due to the swift advancement of information technology, social media has emerged as a viable medium for engaging in the recruitment, promotion, and execution of human trafficking activities. The objective of this study is to enhance comprehension of the Indonesian government's involvement in eliminating TPPO in Cambodia by utilizing social media. This study aims to analyze the measures implemented by the Indonesian government to combat Trafficking in Persons and enhance international collaboration. These measures include the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Indonesian and Cambodian police forces, as well as the signing of bilateral agreements during the Cambodia-Indonesia Bilateral Meetings on Immigration Matters. The analytical findings indicate that the state plays a crucial role in eliminating human trafficking. However, to accomplish the objectives of both nations, it is necessary to engage in bilateral cooperation, namely through partnership with Cambodia.

Abstract

A prevalent narrative posits that the rights of indigenous peoples are often jeopardized by state interests due to an imbalance of power. The protection of local knowledge and customary law is closely linked with the need to address external threats. The Negeri Haruku indigenous peoples, sensitive to global environmental concerns, particularly climate change, recognize the importance of harmonizing human-nature relations through traditional practices passed down through generations. This article explores how the indigenous people of Negeri Haruku contribute to environmental conservation through their indigenous knowledge and how efforts to preserve this knowledge via the establishment of Sekolah Adat Kewang enhance human security. Data was collected from both primary and secondary sources, including interviews, journal articles, books, reports, and websites. Using the concepts of indigenous knowledge and human security, this article demonstrates that the local knowledge of the Negeri Haruku indigenous people has been preserved for future generations through Sekolah Adat Kewang. This institution not only preserves ancestral values but also serves as an educational platform to ensure the environmental security of the Negeri Haruku community. The concept of environmental security is implemented through customary environmental protection measures based on the principles of Sasi (customary law). These measures encompass various types of Sasi, including Sea Sasi, Forest Sasi, River Sasi, and Inland Sasi.

Abstract

Diplomacy activities in its implementation are not only carried out by the state with the central government as the main actor. In an effort to achieve regional development interests and goals in the fields of culture, tourism and economy, for example, district governments (pemda) also play an important role in practicing diplomacy. The Sumenep regency government is currently one of the districts in Indonesia that is very active in conducting tourism diplomacy. In developing the tourism sector, the Sumenep regency government applies a pentahelix strategy, which involves the involvement of five important elements in tourism: government, academics, bureaucracy, entrepreneurs and the media. In addition, in facilitating the internationalization of tourism, the Sumenep regency government specifically conducts paradiplomacy with international circles. This study found that the tourism diplomacy strategy carried out by the Sumenep regency government is effective in bringing in domestic and foreign tourists, which then has a significant impact on increasing the economy of the Sumenep regency.

Abstract

Saudi Arabia and Iran are prominent countries in the Middle East region. Both countries are engaged in ongoing conflict and competition for influence in the Middle East. In 2023, Saudi Arabia and Iran reached an agreement to restore diplomatic relations, effectively addressing a longstanding conflict. The emergence of this peace agreement is closely associated with China's role as a mediator, facilitated through discreet diplomatic efforts with both countries. The normalization of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran prompts inquiry into the foundations of this agreement, considering the extensive history of discord between the two countries and the persistent civil conflicts in Yemen and Lebanon. This article analyzes the rationality of Saudi Arabia's foreign policy through a literature review and qualitative analysis, employing Graham T. Allison's Rational Actor Model. The findings indicate that Saudi Arabia's choice to reestablish relations with Iran is a logical one. The selected option optimally aligns with Saudi Arabia's national interests, including the enhancement of regional security and influence, the promotion of economic stability, and the fortification of the country's global standing.

Abstract

The European Union (EU) adopted a Resolution on Palm Oil and Deforestation on Rainforest that contains a ban on Indonesian palm oil (CPO) exports. The ban on Indonesian CPO exports was carried out by the EU on the accusation that Indonesia's CPO production causes deforestation. Thus, the resolution became a CPO trade dispute between Indonesia and the EU. This research aims to find the EU's motives in the Indonesian CPO export ban policy. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method using secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Index Mundi, International Trade Center (ITC), Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC). The results showed that the EU has a motive (national interest) which is to develop the domestic vegetable oil industry of rapeseed oil (RSO), sunflower oil (SFO), and soybeen oil (SBO) in the Indonesian CPO export ban policy. The resolution issued by the EU against the Indonesian palm oil industry is a form of protection of these domestic vegetable oils.

Abstract

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) plays a significant role in addressing global issues such as the case study discussed in this research regarding Islamophobia in France. This study analyzes the role and significance of the OIC in tackling this issue using a qualitative literature research method by drawing upon sources from previous studies. By employing international organization theory, it can be concluded that the OIC can act as an extension of states in responding to global issues, in this case, Islamophobia in France, by assuming roles as an initiator, mediator, and facilitator. This study provides a more nuanced understanding of the efforts made by the OIC in addressing complex and sensitive global issues such as Islamophobia in France.
