Abstract

Village food security is a crucial pillar of sustainable rural development, particularly in remote areas with abundant natural resources that have not been optimally managed. Gampong Lamteuba, Aceh Besar Regency, is a rural village characterised by fertile agricultural land and a community largely dependent on staple crop farming for their livelihood. However, one of the main challenges lies in the limited capacity  of village governance to coordinate local potential in supporting sustainable food security. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to strengthen village governance through a participatory approach to enhance community food security. The methods employed include socialisation activities, focus group discussions (FGDs), training sessions, and mentoring for village officials and farmer groups. The results indicate an increased understanding among village authorities and community members regarding the importance of governance in food security, improved coordination between village government and farmer groups, and the formulation of village-level policy recommendations to support local food management. This program contributes to strengthening village governance and community  participation in achieving locally based food security.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to strengthen community governance capacity and enhance environmental awareness through ecosystem conservation education of the Pucuk Krueng River as a  foundation for sustainable tourism development in Naga Umbang Village. The program employed a participatory approach involving socialisation, environmental education, group discussions, and conservation activities with village officials, community leaders, youth groups, and residents. The materials focused on river ecosystem conservation, waste management, and the role of local communities  in supporting environmentally sustainable tourism. Evaluation was conducted through observation and participant discussions to assess changes in knowledge and engagement. The results showed an increase in community understanding of the ecological importance of the river and the need for conservation efforts to maintain environmental sustainability. Participants also demonstrated stronger commitment to preserving river cleanliness and supporting community-based tourism initiatives. Furthermore, the program fostered collaboration between local communities and village authorities in developing tourism strategies that integrate environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Continuous assistance and stakeholder collaboration are needed to ensure the long-term success of conservation-based tourism development in Naga Umbang Village

Abstract

The disaster that occurred in Bireuen Regency, Aceh, not only caused physical damage but also had a  significant psychological impact, especially on adolescents as a vulnerable group. This condition requires  psychosocial support efforts to assist the recovery process and improve adolescents' abilities to cope with  traumatic experiences after the disaster. This community service activity aims to provide psychosocial  support through a trauma healing program for adolescents affected by the post-disaster in Salah Sirong  Village, Jeumpa District, Bireuen Regency. The activity was carried out on June 20–21, 2026, using a  participatory approach involving the village government, community leaders, parents, and adolescents.  The program included psychoeducation, icebreakers, therapeutic games, group counselling, relaxation  techniques, and expressive activities to help participants manage their emotions and develop adaptive  coping mechanisms. The results of the activity showed that adolescents participated in all series of  activities enthusiastically, were better able to express their feelings, increased self-confidence,  strengthened social interactions, and had a better understanding of managing disaster-related stress. This  program also contributed to increasing the resilience and mental health of adolescents during the post disaster recovery period. Thus, psychosocial support through a trauma healing program is an effective  form of intervention in supporting the psychological recovery of adolescents affected by post-disaster and needs to be implemented sustainably through collaboration between universities, government, schools, families, and the community.

Abstract

Gampong Jeulingke is one of the areas in Syiah Kuala District, Banda Aceh City, that suffered destruction  as a result of the 2004 Aceh earthquake and tsunami. Through rehabilitation and reconstruction programs  implemented by the Aceh–Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR) in collaboration with the government and various international organisations, public facilities and basic infrastructure were successfully rebuilt. However, a decade after the disaster, the challenges faced by the community are no  longer related to infrastructure provision but rather to low public awareness of the maintenance of existing  public facilities. This community service activity aims to increase public understanding of the importance  of maintaining village facilities as part of efforts to achieve sustainable development, a high-quality built  environment, and to support the vision of Banda Aceh as a “Madani City.” The methods employed  included outreach, participatory training, interactive discussions, and assessments of community  understanding. The results of the activity demonstrated an increase in community awareness regarding the  importance of maintaining public facilities, as evidenced by residents’ commitment to keeping the  environment clean, a heightened sense of ownership toward village assets, and a desire to carry out  maintenance activities on an ongoing basis. This initiative demonstrates that community education is a  crucial strategy for ensuring the sustainability of post-disaster reconstruction outcomes.

Abstract

The effectiveness of social assistance targeting is strongly influenced by the quality and timeliness of community socioeconomic data. Changes in employment, income, domicile, family composition, and asset ownership may cause recorded information to no longer reflect actual conditions. This community engagement program aimed to assist the verification and validation of the National Unified Socioeconomic Data (Data Tunggal Sosial dan Ekonomi Nasional-DTSEN) to improve the accuracy of social assistance beneficiary proposals in Gampong Tungkop, Darussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency. The program employed a descriptive-participatory approach using the Participatory Rural Appraisal method and involved 23 participants, including village officials, social data administrators, members of the tuha peut, community leaders, residents’ representatives, and the implementation team. Data were collected through participatory observation, document review, group discussions, village deliberations, and documentation and were subsequently analyzed using descriptive and thematic approaches. The results showed that the assistance program improved participants’ shared understanding of the functions of DTSEN, welfare decile classifications, and procedures for proposing and updating data. The village deliberation also facilitated clarification of residents’ socioeconomic conditions, identification of data requiring administrative correction or field verification, and formulation of follow-up recommendations for the village government. These findings indicate that participatory data verification can strengthen data transparency, accuracy, and timeliness. However, the results of this program do not constitute the final determination of social assistance beneficiaries, as such decisions remain subject to applicable regulations and the authority of the relevant government institutions.

Abstract

The coastal area of Dusun Nelayan, Pusong Lama Village, Lhokseumawe City, is a densely populatedsettlement facing multidimensional challenges, particularly spatial quality degradation caused by limited basic infrastructure and poor waste management. This community service activity aims to implement a Spatial Quality-Based Sustainable Fisherman Settlement Model as an effort to alleviate environmental slum conditions. The method used is a combination of a literature study to strengthen the theoretical foundation of planning and field surveys to collect primary spatial data objectively, systematically, and analytically. The results show that the partner's existing condition is dominated by scattered solid waste and damaged drainage systems and neighbourhood roads. As a solution, this activity successfully produced an integrated physical intervention product in the form of a new site plan design that harmonises residential spaces with fishermen's productive spaces. This spatial quality improvement is reinforced by the design of a three-compartment communal waste management facility and a subsurface communal Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) adapted to coastal characteristics. Spatial comparison indicates that this redesign significantly improves the settlement's functionality, aesthetics, and accessibility, while establishing an essential foundation for community behaviour change and the sustainable development of a waste-recycling-based circular economy.
