Not all mosques have activities to produce ulama cadres. The cadre formation of ulama is important for the continuity of da'wah in an area. This research aimed to describe the implementation of Shodaqoh Infaq Warga (SIAGA) to produce ulama cadres at the Baitul Makmur mosque, Bantul, Yogyakarta. This research was descriptive research with a case study. The research informants were the chairman of the mosque takmir, the chairman of the SIAGA division, community leaders, and leaders of Islamic boarding schools who collaborated with the takmir. The research method used is a case study with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation and documentation. Data were analyzed qualitatively using Robert K. Yin model. The research results show that SIAGA activities include planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling, as well as two new stages, maintaining and sustaining. The SIAGA activities have implemented Islamic communication principles in their execution, including qaulān balīghān, qaulān maysūrān, qaulān karīmān, qaulān ma’rūfān, qaulān layyinān and qaulan sadīdān. The SIAGA program is considered effective in producing ulama cadres. The SIAGA activities in Kembangsongo Bantul village have also inspired neighboring villages to initiate similar programs to develop future religious scholars. Evaluation research on SIAGA activities needs to be carried out to analyze their effectiveness.

The use of social media and digital platforms is increasing in da’wah activities. Many studies have not explored the optimal use of technology by da’wah practitioners to reach wider and more diverse audiences or face digital challenges, such as disinformation, the digital divide, and technical skills. This research explores the influence of digital technology on da’wah communication strategies in the modern era using the case study method—data collection through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of documentation from various digital platforms. Research findings show that social media, video platforms, and podcasts have changed the way preachers preach, allowing preachers to reach a wider and more diverse audience with more interesting and interactive content. In addition, the use of analytical tools to understand audience demographics is very important in increasing the effectiveness of message delivery. However, challenges such as the digital divide and the need for technical skills in content creation were also identified. The results of this research emphasize the need for preachers to receive digital skills training so that messages can be conveyed professionally and attractively. In addition, this research provides practical recommendations for preachers to optimize the use of technology in da’wah activities, including content creation strategies and how to deal with challenges such as misinformation.

There has been no specific study on the preaching messages from former terrorists. This paper aims to describe the preaching messages in the Facebook accounts of former terrorists. This research method uses qualitative content analysis on text data from Facebook. The data were collected through observation and documentation of status message uploads on two Facebook accounts belonging to former terrorists and supported by related literature studies. The two Facebook accounts belonging to former terrorists generally contain preaching messages with general themes, deradicalization, and counter-radicalization. This paper shows that the preaching messages delivered by former terrorists have distinctive material that is different from other preachers. The delivery of preaching messages by former terrorists through social media platforms can have a positive impact on countering terrorism and promoting peaceful Islam.

Technological transformation has affected every aspect of human life, including the way individuals and communities conduct their spiritual activities. This phenomenon, known as digital religion, has become increasingly prevalent in society. Recently, numerous scientific studies have been conducted on the topic of digital religion and virtual communities. This study analyzes digital religion and virtual communities using a bibliometric approach, employing the Biblioshiny R programming application and data from Scopus, spanning the period from 2011 to 2024. The resulting dataset comprises 31 scientific articles, which were then extracted and summarized. The results showed a fluctuating production of articles on the topic of digital religion and virtual communities each year, with the highest production occurring in 2024 when a total of 7 scientific articles were published. Meanwhile, the average number of citations for scientific articles occurred in 2011. Sweden dominates in the contribution of articles and citations, while the United States occupies a position slightly below it. The top researchers in this field are Alfonso, I. B and Buesa, M. G. The journal with the most publications is Jenkins H. Convergence Culture. The major trends and thematic clusters reflect the picture related to digital religion and virtual communities. This research makes a significant contribution to understanding the development of digital religion and virtual communities research through bibliometric analysis. This research can serve as a strategic guide for future researchers who will delve deeper into this topic.

Religious teachings are increasingly disseminated through digital media, particularly among Indonesia’s Generation Z, who actively engage with platforms like Instagram. However, existing studies primarily focus on the effectiveness of digital da’wah rather than how Gen Z interprets and internalizes religious content in these spaces. Addressing this gap, this study examines how Gen Z constructs meaning from digital da’wah through an ethnographic analysis of the Instagram accounts @yukngajipku and @yukngajijogja over a one-year period (January–December 2023), analyzing 297 and 369 posts, respectively. Findings reveal three key themes: the visualization of religious joy, where Islamic teachings are presented engagingly; volunteerism as a marker of religious observance, emphasizing activism as a faith-driven commitment; and the intimacy of the hijrah community, fostering a sense of belonging. Unlike previous studies focused on message dissemination, this research highlights the identity-shaping role of digital da’wah, demonstrating that Gen Z actively engages in religious meaning-making. The findings offer practical implications for digital da’wah practitioners, emphasizing the need for engaging, visually driven, and community-oriented content to sustain youth involvement. For religious educators, this study underscores the importance of incorporating interactive and relatable digital strategies to enhance religious learning. Policymakers can utilize these insights to develop media literacy initiatives that equip Gen Z with the critical thinking skills necessary to navigate digital religious content responsibly.

principles to algorithm-based religious content. Despite the contradiction between the comprehensive nature of Islamic da’wah (kāffah) and fragmented digital da’wah practices, there is no adequate theoretical framework to bridge the transformation of religious authority when algorithms modify da’wah messages without supervision. The study examines changes in Islamic da’wah practices in the digital era, utilizing artificial intelligence, and employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. The results reveal seven significant impacts: 1) a shift from spiritual-moral aspects to technology-driven message dissemination; 2) format adaptation following digital trends; 3) social media's influence in expanding access; 4) artificial intelligence contributions in content presentation; 5) challenges in balancing popularity with teaching integrity; 6) ethical issues in religious communication; and 7) the importance of education and supervision. The findings have significant implications for Islamic educational institutions, suggesting an urgent need to develop integrated curricula that equip future religious leaders with both technological competencies and an understanding of prophetic communication ethics in digital contexts, thereby maintaining the integrity of Islamic teachings while engaging contemporary audiences.
