Abstract

Technological progress is still happening on a massive scale and has been felt by all levels of society, including children. The generation of children born in 2010 is often called the Alpha generation, the generation most familiar with technology and internet facilities. Therefore, assistance is needed regarding the use of digital media, in line with what has been carried out by the government regarding the design of the School Literacy Movement (GLS). However, the facts obtained based on test results in the Program International Student Assessment (PISA) state that students in Indonesia have low literacy compared to other ASEAN countries. Poor literacy can impact students' psychology because children's emotions are still unstable. Elementary school students often conclude information without filtering to ensure whether the information received is valid or not. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness of digital literacy among students and parents to prepare them before accompanying their children. There is a need for digital literacy education to be provided in schools. The aim of implementing digital literacy for early school students is to help students understand digital literacy related to how students respond to problems in the digital world.

A crisis can endanger the reputation and performance of an institution or agency, especially government property. One of the causes of a crisis is the emergence of unexpected events with wide-reaching impacts that occur quickly. This also elicited various responses from various circles. Facing the development of information technology, especially social media, crisis situations can also be influenced by various responses from netizens that appear on social media. Indonesia is experiencing a crisis situation related to the phenomenon of health problems in the form of acute kidney failure that occurs in children which is allegedly caused by the dangers of cough syrup-type drugs by the dangerous chemicals ethylene glycol and deethylene glycol. Responding to this phenomenon, Chairperson of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Mrs. Peny Lukito held regular press conferences with the main agenda related to the current situation in handling this case. This study aims to look at the formation of a communication network and sentiment analysis from netizens towards the response of the BPOM leadership using a social media network analysis approach on the Youtube channel with the Kompas.com account broadcast live online. The findings in this study are that Peny Lukito as the head of BPOM received negative responses from netizens because they considered him negligent and transferred responsibility to other parties.

Abstract

Social media life is where communication and individuals and communities are characterized through social media networks. Concerns about the adverse effects of social media have directed public attention to media literacy as a potential solution. The SMILE Model is an effort to equip social media literacy that can influence social media use (in terms of exposure and self-expression), ultimately positively impacting individual/adolescent well-being. The results showed that most respondents preferred video content and a combination of video and text. Influencers' influence also influenced the use of social media, but only 25% of respondents felt that influencers had a significant impact on their use. Good social media literacy involves cognitive understanding and emotional regulation to improve emotional well-being. Balanced and healthy social media use can reduce loneliness and increase social support.

Abstract

The phenomenon of retail therapy, where shopping is used as a method to improve mood and alleviate stress, has gained significant attention across various disciplines such as psychology, marketing, and sociology. This literature review aims to explore the emotional dimensions of retail therapy and its function as a form of emotional communication. Research indicates that retail therapy is driven by emotional needs, where individuals use shopping to express, manage, and communicate their emotions. Key findings highlight that retail therapy provides immediate mood improvement and can aid in long-term emotional regulation. The act of shopping, influenced by internal emotional states and external stimuli like advertisements and social media, serves as a coping mechanism for dealing with stress and negative emotions. Social interactions during shopping, whether with friends or store staff, enhance the emotional benefits by providing support and a sense of connectedness. Moreover, digital communication and social media significantly shape retail therapy experiences, influencing consumer behavior through online reviews, social interactions, and marketing strategies. The scoping review methodology employed in this research allows for a comprehensive analysis of existing studies, identifying gaps and providing insights into the multifaceted role of retail therapy in emotional regulation and communication. Overall, retail therapy emerges as a complex, emotionally driven behavior that offers significant psychological benefits, emphasizing the need for further research to understand its impact on consumer well-being and behavior.

Abstract

This study examines social media usage patterns across Indonesia's regions using Google Trends as an analytical tool. By 2024, Indonesia's social media users reached 191 million (73.7% of the population), with platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok showing varying regional preferences influenced by demographic, geographic, and cultural factors. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with secondary data from October to December 2024, the research explores regional and temporal trends in social media usage. The findings reveal Instagram's dominance in tech-savvy regions like Kalimantan Selatan, TikTok's popularity in expressive areas like Aceh and Sulawesi Barat, and Facebook's appeal among older demographics. The study underscores Google Trends' value in identifying regional behaviors, offering strategic insights for digital marketing. Higher education institutions can leverage these insights to optimize marketing by tailoring platform choices, content, and timing to local preferences. This approach enhances engagement and inclusivity while addressing digital disparities. The research contributes to strategic communication and emphasizes the importance of data-driven decision-making in fostering equitable digital outreach across Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the self-representation strategies of Communication students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Klaten on social media, using Erving Goffman's dramaturgy theory as a framework. With the rise of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, students have increasingly used these platforms to build their identities for personal branding, social recognition, and professional growth. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis to understand students' behaviors in managing their digital identities. The findings revealed that students curate and edit their content to create idealized versions of themselves, often influenced by social pressures and trends. The study concludes that while social media serves as a tool for personal branding and social interaction, students must balance authenticity with the pressures of digital self-presentation. Educational institutions should help students manage their digital identities in a healthy and responsible way.
