Abstract

Indonesia is holding the 2024 presidential and vice presidential elections, a 5-year agenda to elect the leaders of the Indonesian State. However, political events occur in the 2024 election series; one is the Constitutional Court's decision Number 90/PUU-XXI/2023, which allows presidential and vice presidential candidates to register before age 40 if they have served or are currently serving as regional heads. This study aims to describe hate speech as insults in the Instagram @gibran_rakabuming comment section after he is appointed a vice presidential candidate and its legal implications. This research is qualitative research with a forensic linguistic approach. The research data are lingual units in words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and texts. The data source was obtained through the Instagram @gibran_rakabuming comment column from November 13, 2023, to November 30, 2023, and ITE Law Number 19 of 2016. The data collection technique was carried out using listening and noting. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling, namely by considering insult content, criminal elements, and relevance to the ITE Law regarding insulting hate speech. The data analysis technique uses the referential pairing method, which is an analysis technique that connects the form of insult with the criminal content in the ITE Law. The data validity technique uses data source triangulation. The results showed various insults in @gibran_rakabuming's comments section, namely in words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and texts. The insults are related to his status as a vice presidential candidate. The insults are in the form of curses, ridicule, disrespectful expressions, innuendo, and others. The legal implications of the ITE law were found in the form of mild, moderate, and severe insults. This research is expected to help identify legal cases related to language and can enrich the science of forensic linguistics.

Abstract

This research discusses how the subjectivity and mother-daughter relationship are depicted in the autobiographical novel Frog under a Coconut Shell (2002) by Josephine Chia, a writer from Singapore. This autobiography tells the story of the daughter’s relationship with her mother, which was based on a patriarchal cultural environment and challenging economic conditions. The novel's relationship between mother and daughter shows the ambivalence regarding the constructed female subjectivity. This research aims to show how the mother’s subjectivity in the autobiography is built through the relationship of the mother and daughter, which is presented through narrative descriptions and dialogue. This research uses a qualitative method with an autobiographical narrative approach based on the theory of motherhood and mothering, especially regarding the relationship between mother and daughter. The results of this research show that the subjectivity of the mother character builds relationships with her daughter. This relationship shapes the daughter’s life by manifesting the mother’s hopes for her daughter. However, this subjectivity must still obey patriarchy to make the hopes can be realized. In addition, this autobiography also shows that the mother’s function as a fulfiller of needs also applies to a daughter who fulfills the mother’s needs. Based on the findings in this research, it is expected that it can be a reflection that the relationship between mother and daughter can be a source of subjectivity for both sides.

Abstract

The role of the song "Tikus-Tikus Kantor" by Iwan Fals serves as a metaphor for depicting workplace fraud, particularly in the context of company financial reporting. This study aims to empirically examine the song's meaning using semiotic analysis. The qualitative research method used Roland Barthes' semiotic approach to explore both denotative and connotative meanings within the song's lyrics. Symbols such as rats and cats represent actors in accounting fraud, namely perpetrators and auditors. The connotations within the lyrics depict rationalization, pressure, and competence, aligning with the Fraud Pentagon theory, which identifies triggering factors for fraud. The moral message in the song serves as a reminder for auditors to execute their duties with integrity and professionalism. From a dramaturgical perspective, the song highlights the relationship between fraud perpetrators and auditors, portraying the former as cunning rats and hungry cats. The research illustrates how fraud perpetrators can exploit the lack of attention or errors on the part of auditors. The moral message in the lyrics encourages auditors to enhance vigilance and integrity when examining financial reports. Consequently, this study provides theoretical contributions by applying semiotic analysis to understand the meaning of songs related to accounting fraud. The findings can serve as a basis for formulating policies to prevent accounting fraud for stakeholders.

Abstract

Lack of self-confidence often occurs in every individual. In general, every individual experiences this experience in living his life. Ostracism is an event that is often encountered in the phenomenon of human life. To be free from this experience, every individual often tries to free himself from feelings of inferiority or distrust. In the film "Easy A," there are three supporting characters named Evan, Bryan, and Eric Ling who experience self-doubt and are ostracized by their school friends because the three characters are considered to have personalities that do not conform to expected social norms in that environment. Therefore, Evan, Bryan, and Eric Ling tried to escape their self-doubt and become individuals in line with what their school friends had set them up for. To get out of their feeling of inferiority, they used the level of popularity of the main character in the film, Olive Pendhergast, who was famous because of false rumors that she was no longer a virgin and dated many men who were deliberately spread by herself to make herself famous. The method used is a literary psychology approach using theories from David Brodwell's film elements and Adler's theory. This research was carried out to understand how an individual's efforts can free themselves from feelings of inferiority in social life through the perspective of the three supporting characters of the film "Easy A." The author found that the three supporting characters of the film "Easy A" have four ways to let go of feelings of inferiority to Adler's theory: making excessive efforts, being hasty or impatient, having solid impulses, and not considering other people.

Abstract

Literary works are often considered separate from the life of society. Literary works can reflect the life of society in a certain period and respond to the life that occurred when the literary work was created. This research describes the social criticism in the Drama Manuscripts titled "Maling" and "Eksekusi" in the Collection of the Drama Manuscripts titled Gandrung by Ilham Zoebazary. The social criticism in these manuscripts is analyzed using a Sociology of Literature approach. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection techniques used in this research were library study and note-taking. The data was then analyzed using three stages proposed by Miles & Huberman (1994), namely 1) data reduction, 2) data display, and 3) conclusion drawing. The research results show that the two texts analyzed contain five types of social criticism: criticism of legal, economic, violent, political, and gender issues. These criticisms relate to the situation when these texts were born and the current situation. The various problems the author presents through the texts can make the reader reflect on the events and use them as valuable lessons for facing life today.
