Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of the Miniature Penyengat Mosque Educational Play Tool (APE) as a learning medium to enhance early childhood understanding of religious and moral values in the Riau Islands. The study is motivated by the limited availability of concrete, engaging, and culturally contextual religious learning media, as well as the need to strengthen moral and religious values from an early age in the context of globalization. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The participants consisted of 30 children aged 4–6 years from three early childhood education (PAUD) institutions, involving teachers and material and media experts as validators. The findings indicate that the Miniature Penyengat Mosque APE demonstrates very high validity, strong practicality, and significant effectiveness in improving children’s religious and moral behaviors, such as worship etiquette, discipline, cooperation, cleanliness, and politeness. Guided play–based learning using this APE provides concrete, enjoyable, and meaningful learning experiences while integrating religious values with Malay–Islamic cultural identity. Therefore, the Miniature Penyengat Mosque APE is recommended as an innovative learning medium aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum for Early Childhood Education and has strong potential for broader implementation based on local wisdom.

Abstract

Independence in early childhood is a critical aspect of social-emotional development and decision-making, yet systematic evidence regarding the influence of the Montessori method on child independence across different contexts remains limited. This study aims to synthesize the impact of Montessori through a literature review of national and international research. The analyzed literature includes journal articles from the last five years and relevant books from the last ten years, focusing on guided freedom, practical life activities, and the teacher’s role as a facilitator. The synthesis reveals that the Montessori method consistently supports self-regulation, decision-making, and personal responsibility in children, both locally and internationally. Teachers play a crucial role in providing proportional guidance, allowing children to learn independently while staying on track. The study also identifies gaps in the literature, including the lack of systematic comparative studies between national and international findings and limited integration of empirical results with the theoretical Montessori framework. Consequently, this synthesis strengthens the theoretical concept of auto-education and provides practical guidance for early childhood educators in designing learning environments that foster sustainable child independence.

Abstract

Language development in early childhood is crucial for communication, cognition, and social interaction. However, not all children experience optimal language growth, often due to a lack of stimulation during the prenatal period. Research has shown that language ability is not only formed after birth but can also be stimulated prenatally through specific auditory inputs. In Indonesia, there is a long-standing tradition of playing classical music, Qur’anic recitations (murottal), and maternal voices to the fetus to stimulate sensory and cognitive development. Despite this, public understanding of prenatal auditory stimulation remains limited. This study aims to raise awareness among parents and communities about the importance of auditory stimulation during pregnancy in supporting children’s language development. The method used is a literature review with a descriptive-analytic qualitative approach, analyzing various scientific sources from the past ten years. The focus is on five forms of prenatal auditory stimulation: classical music, murottal, traditional music, maternal voice, and active parental involvement. Findings indicate that such stimulation significantly affects the readiness of the auditory system and language centers in the brain. Classical music stimulates cognitive areas, murottal provides rhythmic phonetic and spiritual patterns, and the mother’s voice strengthens emotional bonds and activates language areas. These elements work synergistically to build the neurological foundation for more rapid and natural language development. In conclusion, prenatal auditory stimulation is not only a cultural tradition but also a scientifically supported method that should be consciously and systematically implemented, rooted in cultural and spiritual values from the earliest stages of life.

Abstract

The development of religious character in children with autism within inclusive Early Childhood Education (ECE) settings faces a fundamental challenge: the dominance of verbal and symbolic approaches to learning Quranic values, whereas children with autism require concrete, structured, and experiential approaches. This article aims to construct a theoretical framework for the internalization of Quranic values based on the deep learning approach, that is, meaningful learning that emphasizes active engagement, deep conceptual understanding, and the connection between experience and real life, as a strategy for developing the religious character of children with autism in inclusive ECE settings. This study employs a systematic literature review that integrates the theory of value internalization. (Lickona, 2019) The deep learning approach in education (Fullan et al., 2018), and the principles of Quran-based inclusive Islamic education. The findings of this review indicate that the internalization of Quranic values in children with autism can be structured into three continuous stages: concrete value introduction, habituation through structured routines, and consistent reinforcement of religious behavior. This framework affirms the central role of educators as role models (Uswah Hasanah) and a supportive learning environment as key determinants of successful value internalization. This article contributes to the development of inclusive Islamic education, particularly in designing religious value learning models that are adaptive and responsive to the needs of children with autism.

Abstract

Language development is an important aspect of early childhood education because it supports children’s communication, thinking, social interaction, and learning readiness. This study aims to analyze language learning strategies for early childhood in PAUD institutions through a literature review. The study used a narrative thematic synthesis approach by examining journal articles, proceedings, and academic books related to early childhood language development, learning strategies, learning media, bilingual and multicultural learning, social environment, teacher roles, and implementation challenges. The findings show that language learning strategies in PAUD are implemented through storytelling, interactive storytelling, picture stories, language games, movement and songs, concrete media, puzzles, busy books, second language learning, multicultural learning, and social interaction-based activities. These strategies support listening skills, vocabulary mastery, speaking confidence, expressive language, and social communication when applied through concrete, interactive, enjoyable, and developmentally appropriate activities. However, language learning in PAUD still faces challenges, including limited media, limited time, differences in children’s language abilities, gadget use, and lack of parental support. Therefore, language learning should be designed collaboratively by teachers, families, and institutions to create a language-rich learning environment.

Abstract

Early childhood is a golden age. Between the ages of 0-6, children experience rapid growth and development. However, some children experience developmental delays. This is influenced by several factors, such as the environment. This study aims to determine the benefits of picture cards in improving children's vocabulary. This study used a qualitative method with a field study approach. The research location was Azzahroh kindergarten in Tebedak, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. The subjects were children aged 4-5 years. Data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and documentation. The data obtained was then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman approach, starting with data collection, data reduction, and drawing conclusions. The data was then tested for validity using source, technique and time triangulation. The results showed an increase in children's vocabulary skills after repeated learning activities using picture cards. At Azzahroh kindergarten, children's vocabulary development was in the Developing According to Expectations (BSH) category. Children found it easier to remember and pronounce new vocabulary, were able to name objects more clearly, and began to construct simple sentences in daily communication activities.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the observation that some children aged 5–6 years at PAUD Al-Kautsar, Damping Village, Pamarayan, had not yet demonstrated optimal disciplinary behavior, as reflected in their lack of compliance with classroom rules, limited participation in learning activities, and insufficient responsibility in completing assigned tasks. This study aimed to describe teachers' strategies for fostering discipline character among children aged 5–6 years through the implementation of reward and punishment at PAUD Al-Kautsar, Damping Village, Pamarayan. The study employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. The participants consisted of the principal, Group B teachers, and children aged 5–6 years. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation and were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that teachers fostered discipline character through habituation, role modeling, guidance, supervision, and collaboration with parents, supported by the educational implementation of reward and punishment. Rewards were provided in the form of verbal praise, stickers, and simple appreciation, while punishments consisted of verbal warnings, reminders, and temporary restrictions on playtime. These strategies contributed to improving children's compliance with classroom rules, responsibility in completing tasks, and active participation in learning. The findings provide practical guidance for early childhood teachers in implementing educational reward and punishment strategies to strengthen children's discipline character in daily learning activities.
