Abstract

This study aims to analyze the teaching strategies for Fiqh Jinayat implemented through the discussion group or Musyawarah method at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Hikmah Kediri, along with its implications for the learning process and outcomes. The discussion group method was selected as an interactive approach to enhance students' comprehension of the complex and critically analytical subject matter of Fiqh Jinayat. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed in this research, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results demonstrate that the discussion group method creates an engaging and participatory learning atmosphere, improves students' critical thinking skills, and strengthens their understanding of Fiqh Jinayat concepts. Furthermore, this method facilitates a comprehensive grasp of the material, encourages in-depth exploration of specific topics, fosters collaboration, grants students the freedom to express their ideas, trains them to address problems confidently, and enhances their communication skills. However, the method also presents challenges, including consuming significant time and heavily depending on vocal students to sustain discussions. The study concludes that the discussion group method is an effective strategy for teaching Fiqh Jinayat, particularly within the educational context of Madrasah Aliyah.

Abstract

Qur'anic exegesis (tafsir) occupies a special place in the development of intellectual traditions and Islamic civilization at large. As the primary source of Islamic teachings, Muslims have, for centuries, strived to understand the various meanings of the Qur'an in ways that meet the needs of contemporary society through diverse methods, including hermeneutics. This article aims to discuss the hermeneutical approach used by M. Amin Abdullah in the discourse of Qur'anic interpretation. This study falls into the category of qualitative research using a library research method, in which data is derived from textual studies or books relevant to the topic under discussion. The data analysis technique employed in this research is content analysis, used to analyze written data in the form of communicative content. The results of this study reveal that M. Amin Abdullah's hermeneutics generally align with the broader study of hermeneutics. However, the methodological distinction of his approach lies in the epistemological foundation of an integrative-interconnective paradigm in Islamic studies. Due to this methodological distinction, M. Amin Abdullah's hermeneutics possess a unique character in producing meaning in the study of Qur'anic exegesis. Keywords: exegesis; Qur'an; hermeneutics

Abstract

This article explores literary interpretation (tafsir susastra), which has been revitalized with new enthusiasm and methodologies in the modern era. Language and literature, as central icons of i‘jāz al-Qur’ān (the inimitability of the Qur'an), have received significant attention since the early period of Qur’anic exegesis. So, where lies the renewal voiced by modern literary interpretation? Using a descriptive-analytical method, this article examines two modern exegetes recognized for employing the al-adabī style and method in their interpretations: Bintu Syāṭi’, through her works al-Tafsīr al-Bayānī li al-Qur’ān al-Karīm and Maqāl fī al-Insān: Dirāsah Qur’āniyyah, and Ibn ‘Āshūr with his work al-Tahrīr wa al-Tanwīr. The researcher concludes that modern literary tafsir emerged as a response to al-tafsīr al-ijtimā‘ī, which was considered to overlook linguistic interpretation. Presenting the Qur’an as a literary masterpiece not only broadens the scope of expressing its i‘jāz but also enriches the depth of interpretive understanding. Methodologically, literature assumes a position both as a method and as an approach/style in interpretation. Modern literary tafsir introduces new elements such as the thematic (mawḍū‘ī) method, elaboration of tartīb nuzūlī (chronological order of revelation), modern literary theories, and attention to social issues—reflecting the influence of the ijtimā‘ī style. The dominance of adab in an interpretation is also shaped by the exegete’s background.

Abstract

The global economic crisis triggered by the pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, and recessions has significantly impacted various economic sectors, particularly in developing countries. Conventional financial systems are often deemed ineffective in addressing crises due to weak regulations and policies that focus more on mitigating impacts rather than resolving root causes. In this context, Islamic Social Finance (ISF) emerges as a more inclusive and sustainable solution through instruments such as zakat, waqf, sadaqah, and qardhul hasan. This study adopts a literature review approach to explore the role of ISF in addressing the global economic crisis and its contribution to economic growth and financial inclusion. The findings indicate that ISF plays a strategic role in enhancing socio-economic welfare by distributing funds to vulnerable groups, supporting MSME growth, and financing social projects through social sukuk and productive waqf. The implementation of ISF in countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia has proven effective in aiding post-crisis economic recovery and reducing social inequality. Therefore, optimizing ISF management through collaboration between governments, philanthropic institutions, and the private sector is essential to ensure that Islamic financial instruments contribute more significantly to building a stable and sustainable economic system.

Integration of the national curriculum and Islamic boarding schools can have a positive impact on the development of foreign language education. This study aims to analyze how curriculum renewal is carried out at MI Mambaul Ulum Bata-Bata Pamekasan. In addition, this study also aims to determine the form of synergy between the national curriculum and Islamic boarding schools in foreign language education at MI Mambaul Ulum Bata-Bata Pamekasan. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. The results of the study indicate that curriculum renewal at MI Mambaul Ulum Bata-Bata is carried out by adopting the national curriculum and integrating it with Islamic boarding school values. The synergy between the national curriculum and Islamic boarding schools is manifested in the form of foreign language learning that not only focuses on language skills, but also on understanding religious and cultural values. The implementation of this curriculum is also supported by competent teaching staff and adequate facilities. However, this study has not examined the impact of curriculum implementation on students' foreign language skills comprehensively, so further research is needed to measure the effectiveness of this curriculum.

Abstract

The Mamaca tradition in Madura is a form of oral literature rooted in local wisdom and Islamic values, representing the cultural assimilation between Islam and pre-Islamic traditions in Nusantara. Initially practiced as a poetic chant akin to the Javanese Macapat, Mamaca evolved into a didactic medium, narrating stories imbued with religious and moral teachings. This study aims to examine Mamaca as a vehicle for Islamic education in the context of Islam Nusantara, particularly its role in preserving local identity amidst globalization and the influx of transnational ideologies. Using a qualitative approach with descriptive-analytical methods, the research employs fieldwork techniques such as observation, documentation, and structured interviews. The study draws on Mark R. Woodward’s theory of cultural Islam, which views Islam in Java and Madura as a syncretic and mystical tradition rooted in Sufism. The findings reveal that Mamaca functions not merely as a folkloric art form but as a means of internalizing Islamic values through narratives, symbols, and performance, especially in pesantren environments. However, challenges such as generational gaps, declining interest, and cultural shifts threaten the survival of this tradition. The study concludes that revitalizing Mamaca as a character education tool aligned with Islam Nusantara’s principles—tolerance, spirituality, and cultural harmony—can reinforce local Islamic identity. Therefore, Mamaca holds strategic potential as an indigenous educational model that aligns with Nahdlatul Ulama’s vision of moderate and contextual Islam.

Abstract

Abstract

The development of digital technology has globally transformed religious practices, including in Indonesia, by creating a hybrid space between online and offline activities known as digital religion. This study aims to analyze how the transformation of religious practices through social media affects the understanding, practice, and religious identity, particularly among young Indonesian Muslims. Using a literature review method and qualitative content analysis, this research examines various theoretical and empirical references related to digital religion, employing a conceptual framework that integrates the theories of networked religion (Campbell) and mediatization (Hjarvard). The findings show that social media has become a key platform in transforming religious practices, giving rise to new forms of religious authority such as "celebrity preachers" (ustadz selebgram), while also fostering hybrid religious identities that blend tradition with personal interpretation. Religious organizations like NU and Muhammadiyah have successfully adapted by utilizing digital platforms, while pesantrens (Islamic boarding schools) have begun integrating digital literacy into their curricula. However, the study also identifies challenges such as the superficiality of religious understanding due to viral content and the potential for radicalization through social media algorithms. Theoretically, these findings enrich the understanding of digital religion by emphasizing the dimension of locality, while practically, they suggest the need for the development of digital religious literacy and adaptive communication strategies for religious institutions. The study concludes that digital religion in Indonesia creates a new space for negotiation between tradition and modernity, requiring a thoughtful approach to ensure that technological transformation deepens rather than diminishes spirituality.

Abstract

This article proposes a new methodological approach in hadith studies by integrating Imre Lakatos's research programme model into Islamic scholarship. This approach emerges in response to the dominant normative tendency in hadith studies, which often results in stagnation when confronting contemporary socio-cultural dynamics. Utilizing the hard core as the inviolable foundation of divine revelation, the protective belt as a flexible interpretative space, and the series of theories as the progressive development of hadith thought, the Imre Lakatos model enables a scientific reconstruction of hadith understanding that remains grounded in textual authority while remaining open to renewal. This study employs a literature review method, drawing from philosophical, methodological, and contemporary Islamic sources. The findings indicate that Lakatos’s methodology not only offers a strong epistemological foundation for hadith studies but also provides a conceptual instrument for building critical, rational, and context-sensitive Islamic research programmes. Accordingly, this article contributes to the advancement of Islamic studies that are more reflective, adaptive, and relevant to the challenges of the modern era.

Abstract

One of the important things in the tradition of shaking hands is understanding its context. Some regions have specific meanings in carrying it out. The purpose of this study is to determine the value of the tradition of shaking hands using ethical philosophy research (Living Philosophy). In addition, this research is examined because some people view it from the perspective of religious doctrine. This study uses qualitative research with descriptive-analytical methods, utilizing observation, interview, and documentation approaches, targeting the community in Pringgolayan, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The research then found that the local community has very strong family and brotherhood values. Evidenced by the similarity of opinions and references from each informant. The Pringgolayan community realized that there was a change after seeing that the environmental conditions that were previously urban individualistic, then shifted to a society with socialism. The tradition of shaking hands then became a permanent culture with a high sense of harmony between individuals. This study confirms a harmony between individuals. And the new value that can be taken is a self-respect for fellow community members without regard to social status and background of each individual.
