Abstract

Changes in the business environment and the acceleration of digital transformation have encouraged micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adapt in order to remain competitive in the digital market. E-commerce has become a strategic solution as it enables market expansion with relatively low costs. However, low digital literacy and limited technical understanding remain major barriers for MSMEs in utilizing e-commerce platforms effectively. Therefore, this community service program focused on enhancing MSME capacity through training on the use of Shopee e-commerce as an initial step toward marketing digitalization. The program employed a face-to-face training method combining lectures and hands-on practice. The training materials covered product readiness for digital markets, the introduction of Shopee’s basic marketing features, and practical management of the Shopee Seller Center. Participants were trained to create and manage online stores, upload products, prepare product descriptions, and organize store displays. The results indicate that participants successfully created active Shopee stores and improved their basic digital literacy and readiness to adopt e-commerce as a marketing channel for MSMEs supported by Rumah BUMN BRI Bandung.

Abstract

Household waste management, particularly used cooking oil (waste cooking oil), remains an environmental issue due to low public awareness and limited understanding of sustainable waste management practices. Improper disposal of used cooking oil can lead to environmental pollution and pose health risks. This community service activity aims to improve students’ knowledge and skills in processing used cooking oil into value-added aromatherapy candles, while fostering environmental awareness and an entrepreneurial spirit based on the green economy. The method applied is Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR), conducted in two stages: delivery of theoretical material on the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and hands-on practice in processing used cooking oil. The activity was carried out at SMK Negeri 9 Semarang involving 23 students. The results indicate an increase in participants’ understanding, as shown by improvements in scores on 3R education (from 59.5 to 83.3) and used cooking oil processing (from 50 to 85). In addition, students were able to produce aesthetically pleasing aromatherapy candles with economic value potential.

Abstract

Open Defecation (OD) along riverbanks constitutes a multidimensional sanitation challenge rooted in cultural normalization, limited infrastructure, and the absence of binding local regulations. This community engagement program aims to transform sanitation behavior among residents of Berembang Village, Muaro Jambi Regency, through an integrative intervention model that combines Participatory Action Research (PAR) with Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS). The intervention procedure comprises three sequential stages: (1) triggering and social mapping to build collective awareness and identify high-risk OD locations; (2) policy and institutional advocacy to promote the formulation of a Village Regulation draft on sanitation; and (3) a stimulus-based infrastructure intervention through the distribution of SNI-standard squat toilets to Low-Income Communities (LICs). Program evaluation was conducted using a participatory monitoring approach with data source triangulation. The results indicate: in the cultural dimension, the establishment of an anti-OD “Social Contract” reflecting a shift in social norms; in the institutional dimension, the development of a Village Regulation draft as a long-term instrument of social control; and in the physical dimension, improved access to proper sanitation for vulnerable groups through a community-based self-help (gotong royong) development model. The “Behavior Change Triangle” model—integrating software (awareness), hardware (facilities), and rules (regulations)—has proven effective as a strategy to accelerate the achievement of Open Defecation Free (ODF) status in riparian areas.

Abstract

The process of processing batik liquid waste using membrane technology has been implemented to overcome the problem of batik waste in the Sekar Buen Batik IKM Area through a community service program. The method used is the batik liquid waste filtration technique using a membrane. This community service activity is an effort to help strengthen the human resources of the batik industry community in the liquid waste processing process at the Sekar Buen Batik IKM located in North Penajam Paser. The activity has been carried out in several stages, including a preliminary survey, a discussion forum on batik waste problems with a partner team, making a design for a waste processing system based on membrane technology and working practices for the tool. This program can help partners in processing batik wastewater so that it can reduce its negative impact on the environment. The results of the program show that partners have an understanding of the technique of processing batik liquid waste based on membrane technology. Thus, industrial activities at the Sekar Buen Batik IKM can support the green industry area and be more environmentally friendly.

Abstract

The problem at the community service location is regarding unused green land that needs to be processed and developed, according to requests from partners in Maguwoharjo Village, Depok District, Sleman Regency and local residents, who want the development and expansion of Wanasutan Park. The purpose of this community service program is to help process and expand the green land into a tourist attraction, with support in the form of architectural design visualization. The methods applied include the preparation and planning phase, development and design, with the results of the community service explaining the initial condition of the land in the form of an empty area and the condition after processing in the form of architectural design visualization in two dimensions and three dimensions. The conclusion of the community service activities shows that design through design visualization requires a collaborative approach involving various stakeholders starting from community representatives, the village government. Participatory and sustainable planning process through several meetings has proven important to produce a responsive design, and in accordance with shared needs.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual disorder among adolescents, characterized by lower abdominal pain occurring before or during menstruation. Limited knowledge about dysmenorrhea among young women in rural areas often leads to inadequate management and disruption of daily activities. This community service program aimed to improve adolescent girls' knowledge regarding dysmenorrhea—including its definition, causes, prevention, and treatment—in Pucak Village, Tompobulu District, Maros Regency. The activity was conducted on January 13–17, 2025, involving 27 adolescent girls as participants. Methods consisted of health education using lectures and question-and-answer sessions, supported by leaflets. Pre- and post-test assessments were used to measure knowledge improvement. The results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge: before the intervention, only 30% of participants had adequate knowledge about dysmenorrhea, its causes, prevention, and treatment; after the mentoring program, this proportion increased to 90%. The program was well-supported by local government officials, community leaders, and health center staff. The activity demonstrated that structured health education delivered through community mentoring is effective in improving reproductive health literacy among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Flood disasters remain one of the most frequently occurring natural disasters in Indonesia, with Makassar City and Batua Village experiencing recurring inundation almost every year. Low levels of community knowledge and the absence of structured disaster preparedness training are key factors worsening disaster impacts. This community service program aimed to strengthen community-based disaster preparedness and response capabilities in Batua Village through participatory training involving BPBD Makassar, BMKG, PMI, and the Batua Community Health Center. Methods included workshops, lectures, simulations, and the establishment of a Village Disaster Response Team (KESTANA) comprising cadres, neighborhood leaders, youth, and health workers. Post-monitoring revealed positive outcomes: communities improved knowledge of flood prevention, disaster impact mitigation, early warning access, coordination channels, and evacuation data management. Overall, 78% of participants expressed positive responses. The program demonstrates that participatory, multi-stakeholder training effectively builds grassroots disaster resilience. Follow-up simulations and continuous capacity building are strongly recommended

Abstract

Adolescent girls' reproductive health remains a critical public health issue, particularly in communities with limited access to information and services. Low literacy regarding menstruation, dysmenorrhea, and reproductive hygiene makes adolescent girls vulnerable to misconceptions and inappropriate health-seeking behavior. Socio-cultural stigma further compounds the problem, preventing open discussion on reproductive health topics. This community service program aimed to empower health cadres at Puskesmas Panambungan, Makassar, as educators in adolescent reproductive health through structured short-course training and participatory extension activities. The program was conducted from May 5–10, 2025, involving 30 active cadres. Methods included cadre capacity building through lectures, interactive discussions using PowerPoint and leaflet media, as well as pre-test and post-test evaluation. Results showed a 65% increase in cadre knowledge after the intervention. Participants were actively engaged, asking questions and sharing personal experiences related to menstruation and reproductive hygiene. Cadres demonstrated their readiness to serve as facilitators and motivators for adolescent girls in their communities. These findings confirm that structured cadre mentoring combining participatory approaches and visual media is an effective strategy for improving adolescent reproductive health literacy in resource-limited settings.
