This study aims to analyze strategies for preserving Tayub as an effort to sustain traditional arts within the community of Pati Regency. A qualitative approach with a case study design was used in this research. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The validity of the data was ensured through data triangulation. Data analysis techniques involved data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification.The findings revealed that the Tayub performance consists of three stages: the initial stage, the core stage, and the closing stage. Efforts to preserve Tayub in Pati align with Sedyawati's theory, encompassing protection, development, and utilization. Protective efforts are carried out through training and competitions. Utilization efforts involve performances, while developmental efforts focus on innovations in movements, accompaniment, and costume design.

Abstract

Multiculturalism, as an essential issue for humanity, has been adopted in Java, Indonesia, through the legacy of the artifacts of the Great Mosque of Demak. This is also an important marker for the basis of local education strategies. This study examines the traces of multicultural education in the Mihrab ornament of the Great Mosque of Demak and its relevance in learning fine arts. The method used is a literature study with a qualitative approach, in which various academic sources, journals, and historical studies are analyzed to understand the symbolic meaning and educational potential of the ornament. The study results indicate that the Mihrab ornament of the Great Mosque of Demak has a philosophical value that can be used as a medium for learning multicultural-based fine arts. Education integration strategies can be carried out through visual media, contextual approaches, and creative projects. With this approach, fine arts education not only functions as a means of developing artistic skills but also as a medium for instilling the values of tolerance, diversity, and cultural inclusiveness. This study contributes to developing a more contextual fine arts curriculum based on local cultural heritage.

Abstract

Fine arts education has an important role in supporting gender equality through the development of creativity, critical thinking, and empathy. However, challenges such as gender stereotypes, discrimination, and underrepresentation of women in the arts remain significant obstacles. This article aims to explore the role of art education in creating gender equality by identifying existing problems and opportunities. A conceptual approach is used by analysing literature related to gender-responsive art education and the UNESCO 2024 framework. The results of the analysis show that fine arts education can be a strategic tool to overcome gender stereotypes, increase women's participation, and create inclusive learning environments. In addition, gender-based programmes, such as inclusive curricula and cross-gender collaboration, can open wider access for women to work in the arts. Through equitable and inclusive art education, it is hoped to create a more equal society that respects gender diversity. The findings of this article emphasise the importance of using the UNESCO 2024 framework to create a more equitable and sustainable arts education system.

Abstract

This conceptual study examines how musical preferences reflect personality traits, using Raymond Cattell’s 16 Personality Factors (16PF) as a theoretical lens to inform personalized strategies in arts education. Through an integrative qualitative literature review, it synthesizes insights from music psychology, personality theory, and affective pedagogy to develop a framework for emotionally resonant and cognitively responsive learning environments. Findings indicate that preferences for genres such as classical, jazz, pop, or hip-hop are closely linked to psychological traits like sensitivity, liveliness, openness to change, rule-consciousness, and social boldness. These associations enable educators to identify students’ affective orientations and adapt arts instruction to their individual learning styles and emotional needs. The proposed framework addresses key educational challenges such as emotional disengagement and cognitive fatigue by positioning music as both a reflective medium and a pedagogical tool for fostering self-awareness and personal expression. It further advocates the use of informal assessments and personality profiling to support differentiated instruction and culturally relevant curriculum design. The study contributes a theoretically grounded pedagogical model that integrates personality-informed strategies with student-centered approaches, enhancing learner engagement, authenticity, and inclusion. Ultimately, this research offers a conceptual foundation for arts education that is more personalized, emotionally intelligent, and psychologically responsive.

Abstract

This study investigates how a community-based art initiative—Reboan, held weekly by Bale Seni Tepa Slira in Banyumas, Indonesia—contributes to the social vitality of its participants. Emerging from grassroots artistic impulses, Reboan has evolved into a sustainable practice that bridges performance, learning, and cultural regeneration. Through a qualitative case study grounded in McMillan and Chavis’s (1986) theory of sense of community, the research examines how the dimensions of membership, influence, needs fulfillment, and shared emotional connection are manifested in the community’s everyday interactions. Data was collected through immersive fieldwork involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings highlight Reboan’s function not only as a platform for local artistic expression but as a space of belonging, emotional support, and mutual empowerment. As such, Reboan exemplifies the transformative potential of community art in cultivating inclusive, participatory, and socially resilient cultural ecosystems.

Abstract

Generation Alpha, growing up in a digital environment, has unique characteristics in expressing creativity through visual arts. This research aims to explore how drawing creation can serve as an effective medium to enhance the creative potential of Generation Alpha children. The research method employed a mixed-method approach with 12 child participants from Sanggar Rumah Kreatifa 443 Semarang aged 6-11 years. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of artworks, then analyzed using the Miles & Huberman interactive model. Results showed artwork visualization dominated by natural landscape themes (41.7%), digital characters (16.7%), and social activities (13.9%). Typological analysis revealed visual type dominance (50%) with Mini-C Creativity level appropriate to developmental stages, distributed in good (50%), moderate (41.7%), and fair (8.3%) categories. Unique characteristics of Generation Alpha manifested in the ability to integrate digital experiences with traditional media, openness to technology themes, and strong individual expression. Conducive learning environments with individual approaches and community support proved crucial in optimizing creative potential. Findings confirm that Generation Alpha creativity develops through systemic interactions between generational characteristics, individual typology, and responsive environmental support.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the strategies of Ubrug theatre adaptation in the theatre performance of Wayang Nganjor Group in Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province. It focuses on the Ubrug’s meaning, identity, and elements that are preserved and adapted in the Wayang Nganjor Group theatre, as well as its founder’s perceptions related to the meanings and functions of the adaptation strategies to preserve the traditional values and create new aesthetics in the Wayang Nganjor Group performances. Based on the observation and in-depth interview results with the founders of Wayang Nganjor, it is found that the Wayang Nganjor Group theatre performances are Ubrug improvisational dialogue, structure and narrative of Wayang Golek show as well as the typical rhythm play of Rampak Beduk which are combined creatively by reflecting the cultural interpenetration and creative reconversion from the hybridization of Néstor Garcia Canclini, also shows the space of symbolic negotiation from third space theory by Homi L. Bhabha, where the elements of Ubrug, Wayang Golek, and Rampak Bedug meet and influence each other as well as create new asthetics. The founders of Wayang Nganjor stated that these adaptation strategies are an effort to introduce the art tradition that is more relevant to society’s taste, especially the young generation. It is also an effort to foster awareness towards the local language of Banten and local values in Banten traditional arts. The impact of the research shows that this model of adaptation strategies effectively strengthens the cultural identity, modernizes the traditional performance without losing local identity, and exemplifies the practice model of cultural hybridization that is sustainable and contextual in the preservation of contemporary art.
