Abstract

This article aims to explore Hakim al-Jushamī, a Mutazilite mufassir from the late period, through a biographical analysis, as well as to delve into his exegetical ideas. He is recognized as a trailblazer in Islamic thought, particularly within the Mu’tazila school, and has made significant contributions to the field of tafsir (Quranic exegesis). His persona is regarded as the bridge reinstating the interrupted scholarly lineage between Zamakhsharī and the earlier commentators of tafsir. His principal contribution to the field of tafsir is al-Tahdhīb fi al-Tafsīr, a compilation that amalgamates the diverse viewpoints of Mu’tazila scholars whose narratives are not documented in other works. This article is centered on two primary objectives: (1) A biographical analysis of Jushamī within the context of Mu’tazila scholarship. (2) An examination of Jushamī in his capacity as a Mu’tazila mufassir and scholar. The research employs a qualitative methodology, adopting a biographical study approach through a literature review. The research employs data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion as its analytical techniques. The research analysis encompasses an examination of the individual in the socio-historical context and a critique of Mu’tazila philosophy and tafsir (Quranic exegesis) as manifested in his works. The findings revealed that: (1) Jushamī’s life, from a socio-historical perspective, exhibits a close association with Mu’tazila and positions him as an integral component of the Mu’tazila intellectual lineage that connects Zamakhsharī to earlier scholars. (2) His diverse body of work is primarily centered on advocating and defending the Mu’tazila doctrine. (3) Jushamī is regarded as a representation of the concluding era of Mu’tazila mufassirs before the group eventually vanished.

Abstract

During its development, Islamic boarding schools carried out educational transformation by compromising with the establishment of formal education and integrating religious knowledge and science. Apart from that, Islamic boarding schools are experiencing rapid development, one of which is the existence of virtual Islamic boarding schools. The research method used is a systematic literature review (SLR). In the literature selection process, researchers apply five provisions, first; The papers that were analyzed were only papers from journal articles (published), not including book reviews, conferences, proceedings, theses, and dissertations. Second, the selection of articles is limited to the last ten years 2014-2024. Third, the database used in the article search process is a global database, namely Scopus and Taylor and Francis. Fourth, at the article search stage, researchers use third-party applications, namely publish or publish and visualize using Vos Viewer. Fifth, in the search the keywords used were limited to English, because researchers wanted to get complete data about Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) education in Indonesia. The research findings are that the Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) model that is widely developed in Indonesia consists of three models, namely Salaf/traditional, modern, and integrated. First, the characteristics of Salaf (traditional) Islamic boarding schools, Islamic boarding schools only have non-formal education and are very identical to learning sourced from books. yellow. secondly, the characteristics of a modern Islamic boarding school (Pesantren)are Islamic boarding schools that use a modern approach, such as the curriculum and learning process. modern Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) education implements formal education (schools according to government regulations) and non-formal education (Islamic boarding schools). third, integrated Islamic boarding school, an Islamic boarding school (Pesantren)that combines Salaf and modern Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) education, so that the elements contained therein run collaboratively, such as a curriculum that combines the national curriculum and Islamic boarding school (Pesantren) curriculum, so that the Yellow Book becomes the main requirement for learning.

Abstract

The application of Chat GPT, an artificial intelligence model, to deepen understanding and improve digital literacy is one of the important technological advances. The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of Chat GPT in enhancing the digital literacy skills of Islamic Education students at UINSA and the urgency of using Chat GPT in Islamic education research. This research includes quantitative research. The data collection technique used a questionnaire with a choice of 4 answers, namely: 1) Strongly Agree (SS) = score 5, 2) Agree (S) = score 4, 3) Agree enough (CS) = score 3, 4) Disagree (TS) = score 2, and 5) Agree (S) = score 1. The data analysis technique uses two types of tests, namely the linearity test to determine whether there is a relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable and the simple regression test to determine whether there is an influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The sampling technique used nonprobability sampling with a purposive sample type with Islamic education research variables at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. Informants who were sampled amounted to 20 students. Research using Paul Gilster's digital literacy theory approach resulted in the following conclusions: (1) the results of the linearity test with a value (sig) of 0.183> 0.05 means that there is a relationship between Chat GPT and the digital literacy of Postgraduate PAI students. (2) The results of the simple regression test with a value (sig) of 0.000 <0.05 means that Chat GPT has a significant influence on the digital literacy of Postgraduate PAI students. This study's results indicate that Chat GBT's use contributes to improving students' digital literacy skills, especially in the quality of online research.

Abstract

The market potential of the halal cosmetics is currently very promising and the use of cosmetics among millennials is increasing. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to analyze the factors that impact millennial consumers' decisions to buy halal cosmetics. This study analyzes whether factors such as halal awareness, halal certification and religiosity are able to influence millennial consumers' decisions in buying halal cosmetics with purchase intention as a mediating variable. In this study, a quantitative method using survey research was applied. The method of sampling utilized in this investigation was incidental sampling, where the study sample was as many as 185 millennial consumers in Central Java province with the condition that they were millennials born between 1981 to 1996 and had bought halal cosmetic products. Data collection techniques use online questionnaires in the form of Google forms that are disseminated through social media, such as Instagram and Whatsapp. The data analysis method used is SEM-PLS by using SmartPLS 3.2.9 software. The results of this study found that the variables of halal awareness, halal certification and religiosity have a positive and significant influence on millennial consumers' decisions in buying halal cosmetics. Consumer purchase intent was able to mediate the relationship between variables of halal awareness, halal certification, religiosity and purchase decisions significantly. The findings of this research can be used as consideration for manufacturers or marketers of cosmetic products to pay attention to religious aspects in promoting their products. Those in the cosmetics industry who are trying to reach millennials might think about getting their products halal certified. Especially in the context of advertising. One marketing strategy that has shown success is labeling items as "halal certified."

Abstract

The persistent challenges within the social environment remain a critical area of inquiry, particularly given the intertwined relationship between humanity and the environment that necessitates protection. Integrating Maqasid Al-Shariah with social environmental issues is essential for developing a comprehensive framework for safeguarding this environment (hifz al-bi'ah al-ijtima'iyyah). This study attempts to delineate the scope of maintaining the social environment and to identify actionable steps that can be synergized between society, government, and the guiding principles of Maqasid Al-Shariah. Utilizing a literature-based research methodology, this study employs analytical techniques in data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing from primary references on Maqasid Al-Shariah and selective studies on the social environment. The findings reveal the critical importance of contextualizing Qur'anic and Hadith arguments related to the social environment, emphasizing care, protection, and the development of both natural and human resources. This approach leverages the inherent qualities of human beings as God's creations, including their intellect and spirit, to promote collective benefit. Novel contributions of this research include the application of Islamic values to control social and environmental degradation, an understanding of human nature's interaction with the social environment, and the implementation of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar within this context, supported by government intervention. The implications of this study underscore the need for a comprehensive and mutually agreed-upon concept of environmental protection, aligned with Islamic values, between government and society.

Abstract

Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) plays a crucial role in managing diversity to prevent conflicts that could undermine social integrity. Therefore, this study aimed to identify conflict mitigation strategies through communication as well as supporting and hindering factors in the management of interfaith harmony by FKUB Nganjuk Regency and FKUB Kediri City. This qualitative study used various data collection techniques including interviews, observations and documentation. Participants in the study were the leaders of FKUB and representatives of the Nganjuk and Kediri communities. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman's techniques for analysing primary and secondary data, complemented by Stella Ting-Toomey's Face Negotiation Theory to examine face-saving efforts in diversity conflict mitigation. The findings revealed that facework, as a strategy for mitigating diversity conflict through communication, was implemented by considering communication goals and elements. This strategy was manifested in the programmes conducted by the FKUB. The individualistic culture of the community was evident in the conflict management approach of FKUB Nganjuk Regency, while the conflict mitigation approach of FKUB Kediri City was in line with the collectivistic culture of the community. However, both FKUBs also used collectivist approaches to conflict mitigation, particularly through integration. The supporting and hindering factors in managing interfaith harmony stemmed from both internal and external aspects of the FKUB, highlighting the need for synergy between different stakeholders to effectively manage interfaith harmony.

Abstract

Abstract

This article examines the legal conflicts associated with marriage validation (isbat nikah) in the context of polygamous marriages, particularly in relation to the Supreme Court Circular Letter (SEMA) No. 3/2018 and its implications for biological justice. SEMA No. 3/2018 mandates the rejection of isbat nikah applications based on informal or unregistered marriages to uphold legal certainty. The study employs normative research methods, incorporating conceptual, statutory, case, and comparative approaches. The conceptual approach is utilized to explore theories of biological and procedural justice. The statutory approach analyzes relevant legal provisions, with a focus on SEMA No. 3/2018 and marriage law. The case approach provides an in-depth analysis of two pivotal court decisions: the Cilacap Religious Court Decision No. 0430/Pdt.P/2019/PA.Clp and the Supreme Court Decision No. 223/K/Ag/2020. The comparative approach evaluates how these cases illustrate differing applications of the law. Data are analyzed qualitatively and descriptively to uncover and understand disparities in the application of justice. The study critically assesses the implications of SEMA No. 3/2018 on biological justice, highlighting the need for not only legal recognition of marriages but also robust protection of all parties' rights. The findings reveal significant deficiencies in the current legal framework, advocating for a more nuanced approach that reconciles legal recognition with the protection of biological rights. The research offers comprehensive recommendations for policymakers and legal practitioners aimed at enhancing legal provisions for individuals in unregistered polygamous marriages. These recommendations emphasize the importance of fostering dialogue among legal experts and updating regulations to ensure both procedural and substantive justice. Theoretical implications suggest that procedural and biological justice may conflict in the realm of isbat nikah in polygamous marriages, necessitating a more integrated and holistic legal approach to achieve substantive justice for all involved parties.

Abstract

This study explores the strategies employed by the Arab and Chinese ethnic groups to preserve their cultural identity within the predominantly Malay-Muslim environment of Palembang. Challenging the common assumption that minority groups are inherently powerless compared to the majority, this research reveals that both the Arab and Chinese communities possess significant influence in the socio-cultural landscape of Palembang. Employing a qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, the study examines how these communities navigate cultural assimilation pressures while maintaining distinct ethnic traditions. The findings indicate that both groups have successfully leveraged their social capital—Arabs through religion and Chinese through economic activities—to sustain their cultural identities and exert influence over the majority Malay population. Notably, this influence is reflected in the organization of significant social rituals, such as the Cap Go Meh Ritual by the Chinese and Ziarah Kubro by the Arabs. The study concludes that inter-ethnic adaptation in Palembang involves not only maintaining harmony but also contestation and negotiation among different groups. This dynamic interaction underscores the complexity of multiculturalism, where harmony is maintained through a pragmatic approach to mutual dependence. The implications of this research extend to policymakers and cultural organizations aiming to support ethnic diversity in a multicultural contex.
