Abstract

In recent years, women in Indonesia have experienced various forms of discrimination and harassment. This not only happens in real life but also happens in literary works. So, it is necessary to look further or examine the efforts made by women or women's resistance to overcome these problems. This research aims to reveal forms of women's resistance in the novel "Perempuan yang Menangis kepada Bulan Hitam" and the novel "Perempuan yang Menunggu di Lorong Menuju Laut" by Dian Purnomo. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative using feminist literary criticism theory. Data sources were obtained from the entire contents or chapters of the two novels. Data collection techniques use reading and note-taking techniques. The technique for validating this research data is triangulation. The results of the analysis show two forms of women's resistance. Namely resistance in the form of thoughts and resistance in the form of actions. The results of the study are expected to provide knowledge to readers regarding women's resistance in literary works with feminist studies, as well as Indonesian language learning, especially literary teaching materials, and in the field of education.

Abstract

Writing instruction at the junior high school level requires the availability of modules that are aligned with the curriculum, relevant to the cultural context, and in line with developments in digital technology. Some of the teaching materials used in writing instruction are still conventional and do not integrate local cultural values or optimal digital features. This situation indicates a gap between the needs in the field and the availability of interactive and contextual teaching materials. This study aims to explore the needs of teachers and students in developing digital modules for writing non-literary texts based on local culture as a basis for developing innovative writing modules in junior high schools. The method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, questionnaires, and documentation studies analyzed using triangulation. The participants in this study consisted of Indonesian language teachers and junior high school students. The results of the study indicate that teachers and students need writing modules that are interactive, accessible online, communicative, and equipped with step-by-step guides. Another important finding is the need for local cultural content that can foster creativity and a sense of belonging to regional identity. The novelty of this research lies in the development of digital modules that integrate local cultural content to foster students' creativity in writing and their appreciation of local cultural values. This finding emphasizes the importance of developing modules that are tailored to the needs of users. This research contributes to the study of contextual digital module design and writing learning innovation in the era of digital literacy.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of students in writing short stories, which was generally limited to simple ideas, incoherent plots, and a lack of conflict exploration. The learning model applied by teachers was still conventional and less effective in encouraging students’ creativity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the synectics learning model on students’ ability to write short stories at grade VII MTs Pondok Pesantren Al-Muktariah Sungai Dua. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects were two classes, with the experimental class taught using the synectics model and the control class taught using a conventional model. The instrument was a short story writing test analyzed through normality, homogeneity, and independent t-test. The results showed that both groups had relatively similar initial abilities, but after treatment there was a significant difference with t = 4.989; p = 0.000. The mean posttest score of the experimental group (76.70) was higher than the control group (67.73). The conclusion is that the synectics learning model has a significant effect on improving students’ short story writing ability. This finding reinforces the theory that analogy and conflict exploration in synectics effectively stimulate creativity, enrich narrative ideas, and enhance students’ motivation to write.

Abstract

Of the many writings skills learning, theoretically the most important role in growing and developing the potential of each individual student in an effort to express ideas and concepts in good and correct Indonesian is writing a speech text. So, the right learning model is needed. Thus, there is a purpose of this study, namely, to prove the level of effectiveness of learning to write a speech text using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition model and the Think Talk Write model based on the reading comprehension skills of grade VIII junior high school students. In this study, quantitative research was applied in the form of quasi-experimental design research with the Non-equivalent Pretest-postest Design model. The results of this study state that the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition model is more effective to be applied than the Think Talk Write model in learning persuasive speech text writing skills. This can be proven from the results of the Independent Sample T-Test which states a sig value of 0.042. So, it can be interpreted that sig 0.042 <0.05 or a significance value of 0.042 is less than 0.05. So, in accordance with the research basis which states that the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition model has a very big influence on students' reading ability which will then have a significant impact on writing skills, in this case the skill of writing speech texts. Meanwhile, the Think Talk Write model does not have a significant influence on students' writing ability because it does not pay attention to students' reading ability levels. The suggestions addressed in this study to teachers, schools, and further research.

Abstract

Indonesian language learning in Merdeka Curriculum serves not only as a tool for communication but also as a means of critical thinking. This study aims to describe, provide insights, and explain the analysis results of utilizing teaching media in Grade VII Indonesian language textbooks and their relevance to the learning materials in the Merdeka Curriculum. The study employs a descriptive-qualitative design. The stages involved include determining data collection procedures through literature studies, consisting of reading, note-taking, and processing research materials. The analysis of the Grade VII Indonesian language textbooks revealed 86 graphic media elements, categorized as follows: (1) image media, reproducing original forms in two dimensions, such as photographs or paintings, with the largest count of 83 images; (2) chart media, consisting of 2 flowcharts; and (3) schematic media, comprising 1 schematic. However, no data on map media were found in the textbooks. Based on their alignment with the learning materials, the teaching media in the Grade VII Indonesian textbooks are consistent with the curriculum objectives. The variety of teaching media supports the achievement of Phase D in the Merdeka Curriculum, reflecting a transition from basic learning to more complex and structured learning.

Abstract

In the context of an escalating global environmental crisis, this study aims to address the crucial role of language teaching by comparatively analyzing the representation of ecocentric discourse in six official Indonesian junior high school language textbooks under the 2013 and Merdeka Curricula. Employing a qualitative content analysis methodology, the findings reveal a critical deficit of ecocentric content, with only 70 instances identified across all books. A systematic regression was observed, with ecocentric representations decreasing by grade level in both the 2013 Curriculum (from 41 to 9, then 3) and the Merdeka Curriculum (from 14 to 2, then 1). Comparatively, the newer Merdeka Curriculum, with only 17 total findings, exhibits a significant decline from the 2013 Curriculum's 53 findings. The study concludes that this marginalization of environmental discourse is not a reflection of authorial shortcomings but a systemic consequence of a centralized national textbook policy that reduces authorial autonomy. This research contributes a crucial empirical basis for advocating educational policy reform, urging the development of materials that systematically cultivate the ecological literacy required for a sustainable society.

Abstract

The use of abbreviations and acronyms is a common phenomenon in the Indonesian language that has developed since the 1960s, particularly in military contexts. This usage has spread to various fields such as social, political, economic, cultural, and religious areas, making it an essential part of everyday communication in Indonesia. However, excessive and inconsistent abbreviation often leads to confusion. The Arabic language also has abbreviations and acronyms, but their number is far from fewer compared to Indonesian. The main challenge in translating abbreviations from Indonesian to Arabic lies in the differing characteristics of abbreviation formation between the two languages. Abbreviations in Arabic are generally based on root words or specific prefixes, which makes them different from the more flexible abbreviations in Indonesian. This study examines the challenges of translating abbreviations and acronyms in the official speeches of Indonesian President Joko Widodo from Indonesian to Arabic. Data shows that around 40% of translation errors in official speeches are due to incorrect translation of abbreviations and acronyms. A survey of specialized translators reveals that approximately 78% of them face difficulties in translating abbreviations and acronyms from Indonesian to Arabic. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to understand and address the challenges in translating abbreviations and acronyms from Indonesian to Arabic.

Abstract

Speaking ability is a crucial language skill in learning Indonesian because it plays an important role in the development of students' thinking, communication, and confidence skills. However, the reality of learning shows that students' verbal speaking skills are still relatively low. This study aims to identify the challenges of verbal speaking skills of students of SMP Satu Atap 4 Culamega in learning Indonesian, the factors that cause them, and alternative learning solutions that can be applied. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection techniques include learning observations, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation studies on Indonesian teaching materials. Data is analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and thematic conclusion drawn. The results of the study showed that students experienced difficulties in mastering active vocabulary, fluency in speaking, and the ability to express ideas orally in the form of monologues and academic dialogues. The findings of the study revealed that low verbal speaking skills are influenced by the limitations of the family language environment, learning methods that are still theory-oriented, and the strong influence of mother tongue. This research provides theoretical benefits for the development of Indonesian language learning studies and practical benefits for teachers in designing more communicative and contextual speaking learning.

Abstract

Writing skills are one of the important aspects of learning Indonesian, especially in writing descriptive texts. This research aims to improve the ability to write descriptive texts of grade VII students of MTs Muhammadiyah Bengkulu through the application of the Field Trip to Cinema method as an audiovisual experience. This study uses the Kemmis & McTaggart Class Action Research (PTK) model approach which includes the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects consisted of 25 students, with data collected through observation of teacher and student activities and descriptive text writing skills tests. The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students' writing skills. In the first cycle, the completeness of classical learning reached 64%, not meeting the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) 75, with most students in the adequate and inadequate categories. After improvement and re-application in cycle II, learning completeness increased to 100%, with most students obtaining good and excellent category scores. Teacher activity and student enthusiasm also showed an increase in cycle II. These findings confirm that the Field Trip method is not only effective in improving writing skills, but also provides a contextual, creative, and interesting learning experience, so that it can be used as an innovative alternative in learning to write descriptive texts at the junior high school/MTs level.
