Abstract

The provision of incentives is one stimulus to encourage someone’s loyalty, and better work performance as the incentives are paid based on one’s work commitment. This research was conducted at Bethesda General Hospital, Tomohon City, and aims to determine the effect of incentives on its employee work commitment. The results of the correlation coefficient analysis of r = 0.84 indicated that there is a close and positive relationship between incentives and employee work commitment. The correlation analysis also produced the coefficient of determination r² = 0.71 or 71%, implying that the provision of incentives influences 71% of employee work commitment, and other factors beyond this research influence the remaining 29%. In addition, the t-test analysis shows that t count = 8.23 is greater than t table = 1.70 indicating a highly significant relationship between the provision of incentives and employee work commitment.

Abstract

Micro-enterprises have a significant role in the country’s economy. However, business owners must face various problems to develop their business. One of the problems is the limited funding for micro-enterprises due to the low financial literacy of business owners. In addition, the business owner’s tolerance for risk is also expected to affect the financial management of micro-enterprises. This study aims to determine the level of financial literacy and tolerance of business owners and the financial management of micro-enterprises. This research method uses a questionnaire distributed to micro-enterprise owners in Central Java Province and Yogyakarta Special Region. The results showed that the level of financial literacy of micro-enterprise owners was in the medium category. Micro-enterprise owners have a neutral attitude towards risk and are not individuals who dare to take risks but do not avoid risk. Financial management carried out by business owners is still in the poor category. Improvement of financial literacy, understanding of risks, and financial management of micro-enterprises still need to be done.

Abstract

Capital consists of human capital, social capital, natural capital, physical capital, and financial capital, but this study will only discuss human and social capital. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between human and social capital in achieving prosperity through the level of wages and income, especially for workers in the Small and Medium Enterprises sector in Palembang City. Respondents in this research were 400 workers in the Small and Medium Enterprises sector in Palembang, in the Sub-districts of Sukarami, Ilir Barat I, Kalidoni, Seberang Ulu I and Seberang Ulu II. The method used is descriptive qualitative in path analysis, with primary data in interview questionnaires. The results showed that workers’ drinking and maximum income ranged from Rp500,000 to Rp7,500,000, with an average of Rp1,903,041. The results of the path analysis found that human capital through wages affected the income of 76.4 percent, with a beta value of 0.137 indicating that if the length of schooling were increased by 10 percent, wages would increase by 1.4 times and income by 23.6 percent. In contrast, the relationship of social capital through wages to income is very small because other factors influence, such as the work environment, place of residence, and others.

Abstract

There have been several violent incidents in the Correctional Unit. One of them in West Sumatra, where the Legal Aid Institute in Padang recorded three cases during the current year in 2019, occurred in Pariaman Class II-B of Correctional Institution. Similar incidents occurred in 2018 in which children in correctional institutions were recorded as experiencing physical, psychic, and sexual violence. The Indonesian Commission for the Protection of Children found that 26.8 percent of children in Special Children’s Prison were victims of violence in 2018. There has been widespread media coverage of officers’ violence and complex correctional problems in the last three years. Based on the literature study and unstructured interviews with correctional officers, several factors cause officers’ violence to prisoners. The following factors are the punitive attitude of correctional officers to prisoners and the lack of human rights knowledge, Standard Minimum Rules (SMR), and correctional officers’ correctional technicalities. In this study, the method used was descriptive qualitative research. Descriptive qualitative research is a form of research that includes a case study of an event. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Case studies are intended to test research questions and problems in which there is no separation of phenomena and context in the spectacle. This study explores the factors that trigger officers to commit violence against correctional inmates. Many things cause violent behavior, such as stress, psychic problems, and soon.

Abstract

The COVID-19 outbreak has brought multiple profound effects on the economic sector worldwide. This study aims to determine the socio-economic impact caused by the COVID-19. Considering Indonesian lower-classes, this study used a quantitative method with a descriptive approach and collected 274 respondents. Data were obtained from questionnaire interviews with poor women in rural East Java. The data source was selected using a random sampling technique. Literature studies were carried out to collect data related to research. The results show that the pandemic in Indonesia has caused a tremendous impact on the socio-economic sector of society and women from the lower classes in rural areas. They suffer from huge losses ranging from reduced income to loss of work. This study also highlights the Work From Home (WFH) policy, which cannot be implemented on the lower classes because many of them are laid off, and some employees who continue to work are at risk of disease exposure. Likewise, the COVID-19 pandemic and Work From Home (WFH) policy evoke several problems for women. The household responsibility of women is proven to increase during the pandemic. The women who do WFH seem to be preoccupied in two roles, first, as a worker, second, as a housewife who assists the household. Specifically, it means women are required to do domestic and public work. Therefore, gender awareness is needed to minimize women’s disadvantages in this case.

Abstract

Since its inception and until now, oil palm plantations have been controversial in Indonesia. Although there is ample evidence presented by proponents proving that oil palm expansion has made an important contribution to the Indonesian economy, from an ecological point of view, it is claimed by critics to have negative impacts on the environment, one of which is the cause of natural disasters. The link between oil palm expansion and natural disasters is debated between critics and supporters of oil palm expansion. This study examines the theme of criticism of oil palm expansion as a cause of natural disasters and counter-discourse of supporting oil palm expansion. By using literature study methods and an environmental, sociological perspective, it is found that the discourse on the impact of oil palm plantation expansion shows a contradiction between the views of the New Ecological Paradigm (Paradigma Ekologi Baru or PEB) and the Human Exemptionalism Paradigm (Paradigma Keterpisahan Manusia or HEP). The Indonesian government is building a counter-discourse of ecological modernization to maintain and develop oil palm plantations expansion.

Abstract

This study discusses adolescents’ perceptions of ICT-facilitated sexual violence (ICTFSV) based on gender and school type. The research was conducted by surveying 719 students in seven regencies/cities in Surakarta, Indonesia, which were purposively selected. The ICTFSV indicator was measured based on the theories of Henry & Powell (2016) and Baumgartner et al. (2010). Mann-Whitney U and two-sided tests were employed to analyze the data. This study finds the different perceptions of ICTFSV based on gender at SHS and VHS. Moreover, it also finds the different perceptions of ICTFSV among students of SHS and VHS. This provides a new understanding of gender-perspective integration and character-building in developing school policies. Therefore, further research on gender equality and character-building of education policy can be carried out. The analyzed object imposes many limitations, namely the selected sample, the research focus, the data collecting, and analyzing method.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an overview of the transparency of village financial management in Pulau Morotai Regency, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. The sample in this study was taken by using a purposive sampling method, involving 440 respondents, and spread in 88 villages in Pulau Morotai Regency. Data processing techniques used descriptive statistics with a class interval approach. The results show that the indicators of clarity of roles and responsibilities, implementation of government affairs are still dominated by the head of the village who has the authority for village financial management. Indicators of budget disclosure show relatively the same as indicators of clarity of roles and responsibilities. The indicators of information availability indicate that the accessibility of public information in villages located in the subdistrict capital is relatively good. In contrast, the last indicator, integrity assurance, shows that data validity still being a problem in the village planning process. This study also discusses the implications as well as suggestions for future studies.
