Abstract

Various researches on drug abuse crimes have focused more on drug users or addicts. Meanwhile, investigations into drug dealers and producers have received very little attention. The majority of drug convicts in prisons are drug traffickers, which has resulted in a significant increase in drug trafficking cases in Indonesia. This study aimed to identify differences in personality traits, guilt, and shame of non-recidivists and drug dealers. The research was conducted on one hundred and fifty-five prisoners at the Cibinong Penitentiary, West Java, Indonesia. The measurement uses a scale of the big five personality traits which has been adapted into Indonesian, and the Guilt and Shame Proneness Scale (GASP) was developed by Cohen, Wolf, Panter, and Insko. This study found that there were differences in personality traits in terms of agreeableness and neuroticism between non-recidivists and recidivists. The difference test concluded that guilt and shame did not show any differences between the two groups of prisoners. This conclusion can provide a basis for consideration of developing a program to develop drug trafficking convicts to prevent the re-offense of crimes after being released. Keywords : Personality traits, guilt, shame, non-recidivists, recidivists Abstrak. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between gratitude, self-control, and criminal thinking. The majority of gratitude studies mostly focus on their relationship with well-being, life satisfaction, and prosocial behavior in normal and psychological disorders. Studies on the relationship between gratitude and deviant behavior are still very limited. This study uses correlational analysis and mediation of the relationship of gratitude, self-control, and criminal thinking of prisoners in sexual violence cases. The measurement of eighty-five prisoners in Kediri Penitentiary using the gratitude scale, Grasmick et al. 's self-control scale, and the Psychological Inventory of Criminal Thinking Style (PICT). This study's results found a direct effect of gratitude with criminal thinking; however, self-control shows a weak role in the index effect as a mediator. This finding has implications for the importance of developing a rehabilitation program on the psychological aspects of being grateful for inmates in prisons.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the phenomenon of mass trance in middle school. Previous studies in trance focused in individual psychological factors and view the trance as psychological disorder (hysteria). Mass trance shows behavior and emotion performed by students through interaction process. Thus, this phenomenon is not only viewed from clinical perspective, but also social psychology explanation. This study used grounded theory by performing interview on 17 informants (students and teachers) in a school with mass trance cases in Jakarta and Tangerang, and analysis on 31 video recordings about the online news on trance cases. The findings show that there are seven categories of factors on mass trance: emotional stimulus, mystical experiences, suggestability, supernatural interpretation, anomalous experience, unconditioned emotional response, and mimicry. Core category analysis shows that mass trance on middle school students indicates emotional contagion with supernatural beliefs nuance.

Abstract

Students generally know that cheating and plagiarism are violations of academic ethics, but some still do it. The study of academic dishonesty has been more into quantitative approaches, thus it cannot explain the dynamics of moral psychology about the decision making of cheating and plagiarism. This study explores the role of the consideration of the value of risk, shame, and guilt in utilitarian moral judgment in academic dishonesty behavior, as a solution to the views of theoretical debates about the role of emotions and cognitive morals in explaining good and bad behavior. This research used an interpretative phenomenological analysis approach to explore the meaning of the experience of conducting academic dishonesty by interviewing 66 college students. The results showed that ignorance of shame and the absence of guilt played a role in weakening the utilitarian moral judgment of students to act honestly in the face of examinations and assignments. These findings contributed to the importance of strengthening moral and ethical education for students in academic programs.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-compassion and family support on the stress levels of inmates at the Class II Correctional Facility in Yogyakarta. Specifically, the research examines the impact of each variable as well as the interaction between self-compassion and family support in reducing stress. The research method employed is a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consists of 150 inmates selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used include the Self-Compassion Scale, Family Support Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation tests and multiple regression to examine the relationships among the variables. The results indicate that self-compassion and family support have significant negative correlations with the stress levels of inmates. Self-compassion significantly reduces stress, whereas inmates with higher levels of self-compassion tend to experience lower stress. Similarly, family support proves to play an essential role in decreasing inmate stress. Furthermore, the interaction between self-compassion and family support shows that the combination of both has a greater impact on reducing stress levels. In conclusion, both self-compassion and family support significantly contribute to lowering the stress of inmates. Therefore, rehabilitation programs in correctional facilities should incorporate aspects of self-compassion development and strengthen family involvement to support the mental well-being of inmates.
