Abstract

Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) remain significant global health problems, especially among adolescents. The low knowledge and awareness of adolescents about HIV/AIDS contributes to the increase in infection rates. Health education plays an important role in improving adolescents' understanding of this disease. This study aims to analyze the effect of health education on increasing adolescent knowledge about HIV/AIDS in the working area of the Benteng Karang Health Center. Methods: This study uses a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 teenagers from the Tunas Gospel Message, Sunday School (SM-TPI) of the Benteng Karang Congregation were selected as respondents through a total sampling technique. Health education is provided in the form of counseling, and data is collected using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Data analysis was carried out with the Wilcoxon test to measure changes in knowledge levels before and after the intervention. Results: Before counseling, 30% of adolescents had good knowledge, 40% enough, and 30% less. After counseling, the number of adolescents with good knowledge increased to 53.3%, 29.2% moderately, and 18.8% less. Statistical analysis showed an increase in the median knowledge score from 6 (IQR 5-7) to 9 (IQR 8-10) with the Wilcoxon test resulting in values of Z = -4.57 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which showed a significant increase in knowledge level. Conclusion: Health education has been proven to be effective in increasing adolescents' knowledge about HIV/AIDS. These results emphasize the importance of continuous education programs to increase adolescents' awareness of HIV/AIDS prevention and control. Therefore, educational interventions through counseling methods need to be applied more widely to maximize their positive impact on society

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a global health problem that affects children's physical growth and cognitive development. Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life is believed to reduce the risk of stunting. However, the direct link between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting prevention is still debated, with other factors such as the quality of complementary foods and socioeconomic conditions also affecting. Methods: This literature review used systematic searches through PubMed, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and Garuda databases, with relevant keywords regarding the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting. Selected articles must be relevant and published within the last five years, and include studies examining the impact of exclusive breastfeeding on stunting in children under five years of age. Results:  Out of 440 articles found, ten relevant articles were selected for analysis. Some studies have shown a significant association between exclusive breastfeeding and a reduced risk of stunting in toddlers, but there are also studies that show that environmental and socioeconomic factors play an important role in stunting prevention. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding has a key role in preventing stunting, but its success is influenced by various supporting factors such as social support, maternal knowledge, and environmental and socioeconomic conditions. Therefore, stunting prevention must be carried out with a more holistic approach that includes exclusive breastfeeding and improvement of external factors.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health concern, especially in developing countries, with malnutrition being a major risk factor for its progression. Malnutrition weakens the immune system, making individuals more susceptible to TB infections. The relationship between nutrition and TB treatment outcomes is critical, as nutritional status can influence recovery and overall treatment success. This study aims to analyze the Body Mass Index (BMI) of TB patients at the Tamangapa Health Center and its implications for disease management. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional research design, conducted in December 2024 at the Tamangapa Health Center. The study population consisted of 99 active TB patients registered between January and April 2024, all of whom were included through total sampling. Data collection involved direct observation, weight and height measurements, and BMI calculations. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics to determine the frequency distribution of BMI among TB patients. Results: The study found that the majority of TB patients were male (63.6%) and elderly (47.5%). Most patients had a low BMI (57.6%), while 34.3% had a normal BMI, and 8.1% were overweight. These findings highlight the prevalence of malnutrition among TB patients, which can negatively impact their recovery process. Conclusion: Malnutrition remains a common issue among TB patients, with a significant proportion experiencing underweight conditions that can hinder treatment outcomes. Proper nutritional interventions should be integrated into TB treatment programs to improve recovery rates. Addressing nutritional deficiencies through dietary improvements and health education may enhance the effectiveness of TB management strategies.
