Abstract

Islam is a religion that respects and upholds human values. Honor killing is a phenomenon that occurs in many countries, one of which is Pakistan. Therefore, this paper examines the practice of honour killing from the perspective of maqashid sharia. This paper uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach consisting of books, news, and journals relevant to this research. The findings in this study found that first, Pakistani society uses the tradition of honor killing as a legal tool for those who violate family honour. Second, the development of the practice of honor killing in Pakistan is due to cultural traditions and adapting from the laws of Qisas and Diyat. In the perspective of maqashid sharia, the practice of honor killing is contrary to the principle of al-Dharuriyat al-Khamsah, namely religion and soul. Through the principles in maqashid sharia, everything that contradicts the Qur'an and Sunnah is considered as behaviour that is not in accordance with Islamic sharia.

Abstract

The Red Sea is a strategic region that connects the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, and is a vital trade and transportation route for the world. However, it has also witnessed conflicts and tensions between various actors, including Israel and the Yemeni Houthi. This research aims to analyze why the Yemeni Houthi blockade Israeli-bound merchant ships in the Red Sea, and how it impacts regional and global stability. This research uses a qualitative method with literature study techniques to obtain data from various sources, such as books, journals, reports, media, and official documents. The results showed that the blockade of Israeli merchant ships by the Yemeni Houthi in the Red Sea was motivated by political, economic, military, and ideological factors, relating to the conflict between Israel and the Yemeni Houthi, the Yemeni civil war, the Saudi-Iranian rivalry, and the United States' support for Israel. The blockade negatively impacts regional and global stability, as it creates insecurity, economic losses, humanitarian crises, and diplomatic obstacles between the actors involved.

Abstract

Women empowerment is an attempt to provide power, choice and freedom for women to optimize their potential. At the national level, empowering women requires collective participation between the state as the highest political entity and society as the implementer of women empowerment. India, as a developing country in South Asia, is a country that is seeking to optimize women empowerment through holistic, multi-sector development policies that are capable of having a significant impact on the country's development. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi in his first term, a policy emerged called Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) as a bridge in actualizing women's empowerment in India. The efforts contained in this policy are economic development through empowering abilities to increase economic growth (economically productive), providing guidance on women's participation in the public sphere, guaranteeing women's representation in the world of politics, as well as a culture of mainstreaming women in other sectors. Through the strategies made by Narendra Modi, women are given strength and guarantees from the state to fulfill their personal needs (self-sufficiency).

Abstract

Religious moderation is important in state behaviour and international relations in the globalized world, impacting peace promotion and global security. The moderation of religion greatly influences the determination of state identity, adherence to international norms, and enhancement of diplomatic relations through promoting peaceful coexistence. This paper deliberates on the role of religious moderation using case studies of Indonesia, Norway, and India, referencing constructivist theory. The two most prominent Islamic organizations in Indonesia, Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, actively cooperate in reducing sectarian strife and enhancing pluralism, which benefits both internal peace and the nation's improved international standing. Conversely, despite being a non-religious nation, Norway employs religious moderation as a strategic form of soft power, evidenced by its mediation efforts in the Oslo Accords. This reinforces Norway's reputation as an impartial mediator in international crises. Meanwhile, India faces a rise in religious nationalism, mainly Hindu nationalism, which has worsened social polarization and made it more challenging to enact moderation in both foreign and domestic policy. Analyzing these cases highlights the challenges of religious extremism and nationalism while emphasizing the potential of religious moderation to support domestic stability, facilitate diplomacy, and contribute meaningfully to more considerable peacebuilding efforts. Ultimately, this research underscores the critical importance of states incorporating moderate religious principles to promote internal harmony and contribute positively to international diplomacy and peace initiatives.

Abstract

Abstract

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) plays a crucial role in promoting socio-economic development among Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries. As a Sharia-compliant multilateral financial institution, IsDB provides financing, technical assistance, and capacity-building programs to bridge economic disparities between its member states. This study analyzes the role, challenges, and opportunities of IsDB in addressing development issues through infrastructure investment, human capital development, and financial inclusion. Using a SWOT analysis approach, the study identifies internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats, that impact IsDB’s effectiveness. The findings indicate that while Islamic financing mechanisms enhance financial inclusion and economic resilience, challenges such as bureaucratic inefficiencies, reliance on member-state contributions, and diverse regulatory frameworks hinder IsDB's operational efficiency. To optimize its role, strategic policy recommendations based on the SWOT matrix are proposed, focusing on strengthening financial mechanisms, expanding partnerships, and fostering innovation. This study highlights the importance of adaptive strategies in ensuring that IsDB remains a key driver of sustainable development in OIC nations.
