Abstract

Drug abuse among adolescents is one of the serious problems faced by modern society today. Adolescents as the next generation of the nation are very vulnerable to the negative effects of drugs that can damage their future. This article aims to identify the factors that cause drug abuse among adolescents, the negative impacts it causes, and effective strategies for prevention and control. Through a participatory approach in community service activities, we involve various parties including parents, educators, and local communities to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs. The results of this activity show that intensive education, strict supervision, and moral and emotional support from family and community are very important in preventing drug abuse among adolescents. In addition, rehabilitation and social reintegration programs for adolescents who have become drug users must also be strengthened.

Abstract

This scientific webinar aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis of herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP) and explain important safety measures for patients undergoing MRI examinations. MRI has become one of the most important imaging modalities in diagnosing HNP cases. The presentation will cover the basic principles of spinal MRI, including image acquisition techniques and interpretation of results. Different types of HNP will be discussed, including intervertebral discs and associated spinal anatomical changes. In addition, the webinar will highlight the importance of patient safety in MRI procedures. This includes a discussion of the potential risks of strong magnetic fields, contraindications, and safety protocols that should be followed by patients and medical staff. Practical steps to minimize risks and optimize examination results will be discussed in detail. By presenting experts in the field, this webinar will provide an in-depth understanding of the use of MRI in HNP cases and emphasize the importance of patient safety during the procedure. This will provide valuable insights for medical professionals involved in the care of patients with spinal problems

Abstract

Excellent service in radiography is essential for enhancing patient satisfaction and improving the efficiency of healthcare services. Excellent service in healthcare is one of the key factors in improving the quality of patient care. Radiographers, as healthcare professionals responsible for radiological examinations, play a significant role in providing optimal services. However, various challenges persist in radiology services, such as ineffective communication, lack of empathy, and limited understanding of patient needs. Therefore, training in excellent service for prospective radiographers has become an urgent necessity. This program aims to provide training on excellent service for prospective radiographers. The training covers effective communication, professional ethics, and quality service techniques. It also seeks to enhance the competencies of prospective radiographers in delivering excellent service in terms of communication, technical skills, and professionalism. The training methods include theoretical sessions, case studies, and hands-on simulations with patients. The results indicate a significant improvement in the service skills of the training participants. Additionally, the training results show an increase in participants' understanding and ability to provide friendlier, more efficient, and patient-centered services. Feedback from the participants suggests that interactive and practice-based learning methods are highly beneficial in understanding the concept of excellent service. In conclusion, this training contributes to better preparing prospective radiographers for workplace challenges and improving the quality of radiology services in healthcare facilities

Abstract

This research aims to introduce the dangers of radiation in everyday life to SMA 2 Siak students as an effort to increase awareness and understanding of the impacts of radiation exposure. Radiation, both ionizing and non-ionizing, can be found in various aspects of life, from nature to modern technological devices. Although most radiation is low risk, excessive exposure can harm health, including increasing the risk of cell disorders and cancer. Through literature study and outreach methods, this research succeeded in mapping radiation sources, explaining possible health impacts, and providing education regarding mitigation steps that students can take. The results show the need for continued education and the development of appropriate safety guidelines so that students can be wiser in interacting with radiation sources in their surrounding environment

Abstract

The radiation safety management system at the Radiology Installation of Petala Bumi Regional General Hospital is designed to protect patients, medical personnel, and the public from the risk of excessive radiation exposure. This system begins with the preparation of a radiation safety policy that serves as a guideline for every radiology procedure. In addition, risk identification and assessment are carried out at every stage of the radiology procedure to ensure that appropriate preventive measures can be implemented. The ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle is also applied to minimize the radiation dose received by patients and medical personnel, with the aim of keeping radiation exposure at the lowest possible level. In addition, medical personnel and hospital staff are given regular training on radiation safety procedures and the use of appropriate protective equipment to reduce risk. The radiology equipment used in this installation is also maintained and calibrated periodically to ensure that the equipment is functioning properly and does not provide excessive radiation doses. Monitoring of the radiation dose received by patients and medical personnel is also carried out regularly to ensure that all procedures remain in accordance with established safety standards. Overall, this radiation safety management system aims to maintain the safety and quality of radiology services, as well as ensure that the use of radiation is carried out safely and efficiently. This system is also evaluated and improved on an ongoing basis to ensure its effectiveness in reducing risks and improving safety standards in the hospital.

Abstract

Back pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders faced by office workers, primarily caused by poor ergonomic posture and prolonged sitting. This community service project aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of office workers in preventing back pain through counseling and simple physiotherapy exercises. The intervention included interactive lectures, demonstrations of stretching and muscle-strengthening exercises, and Q&A sessions. Results showed a significant improvement in participants' understanding of proper posture and their ability to perform exercises independently. Following the program, 85% of participants reported feeling more comfortable during work, and 65% experienced a reduction in back pain. The program was well-received and is expected to help reduce the incidence of back pain, improve productivity, and promote a healthy workplace culture. The company also expressed interest in incorporating these practices into regular employee training. This project highlights the importance of ergonomic education and physical activity in preventing musculoskeletal disorders and improving employee well-being in the workplace.

Abstract

Body balance is a crucial component in the motor development and physical activity of adolescents. One of the key factors affecting balance is core stability, which includes the abdominal, lower back, and pelvic muscles. Unfortunately, the lack of structured physical activity among students often leads to weak core muscles, negatively impacting posture and balance. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of students at SMP Negeri 14 Pekanbaru in maintaining body balance through core stability training. The implementation method included education on the importance of core muscles, exercise demonstrations, and hands-on practice involving plank, crunch, hip bridge, bird dog, and bicycle exercises. The intervention was carried out over 6 weeks with a frequency of three times per week. Evaluation was conducted using the standing stork test before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant improvement in the students’ balance ability after completing the training program. Students also demonstrated high enthusiasm and a better understanding of the importance of core muscle strengthening. This activity contributed positively to improving students’ physical activity quality and serves as a practical intervention model that can be adopted by other schools. The program is expected to be sustained and integrated into the school’s physical education curriculum.

Abstract

As people age, they experience a decline in physical function, affecting mobility, balance, and independence. This increases the risk of falls and injury, potentially lowering their quality of life. This community service activity aimed to improve the mobility and balance of elderly residents through a physiotherapy program conducted at the Embun Kehidupan Bangsa Nursing Home. The program included health education on the importance of physical activity and physiotherapy exercises tailored to the participants' physical conditions. Additionally, functional assessments were conducted before and after the program to evaluate its effectiveness. The results showed significant improvements in the mobility and balance of the elderly, as well as a reduction in the risk of falls. This program not only improved the physical quality of life of the elderly but also helped build their independence in daily activities. This activity is expected to serve as a model for other nursing homes, highlighting the importance of collaboration between healthcare professionals and the community to enhance the well-being of the elderly.

Abstract

Cardiorespiratory endurance is a vital component of physical fitness, especially for physiotherapy students who will be engaged in physically demanding activities and healthcare services. Brisk walking is a simple, low-cost, and effective aerobic exercise to improve cardiorespiratory endurance. This community service activity aimed to educate and engage physiotherapy students in brisk walking exercises to enhance their physical fitness. The program included fitness education sessions, initial VO₂ max assessments, multiple brisk walking training sessions, and final evaluations. The results indicated an improvement in students' cardiorespiratory capacity following the exercise program. This initiative is expected to inspire students to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle in the long term.

Abstract

Children with disabilities have the potential to grow optimally when supported with appropriate stimulation and care. This community service activity aimed to enhance the understanding of teachers and parents at SLB Cendana Rumbai regarding their crucial role in supporting the development of children with disabilities. The methods included interactive counseling sessions, training on developmental stimulation strategies, and experience-sharing discussions. The results showed improved awareness among participants about appropriate approaches in guiding children with disabilities, along with increased motivation to engage actively in their developmental process. This initiative is expected to be a starting point in creating a more inclusive and supportive educational environment.
