Abstract

Fusheng Liu Ji ‘Six Records of a Floating Life’ is the autobiographical prose composed by an intellectual Shen Fu in the High Qing era, which chronicles his impoverished life featured by both sorrow and exaltation. A substantial portion of the work concerns Shen’s wife named Yun, who is adulated as one of the most meritorious women in Chinese literature by an illustrious writer and translator Lin Yutang. From a pre-modern perspective, in her postnuptial life, Yun complies with the Confucian teachings prescribing women’s conduct, virtue and demeanour, viz. ‘Three Obediences and Four Virtues’; additionally, Yun exhibits filial piety which is also a preponderant creed in imperial China. From a modern perspective, Yun demonstrates proto-feminist thinking and sentimentality that defy orthodox institutions, embodied by her courageous cross-dressing and harmonious matrimonial relationship enriched by profound emotional devotion and physical intimacy. Furthermore, Yun is equipped with intelligence, generosity, romantic spirit and artistic temperament, and is hence eulogised by her husband for possessing a mentality and merits like a man, which, I posit, is the ultimate accolade in a patriarchal context.

Abstract

This study examines the use of euphemisms and dysphethes in crime news in Tempo.co and Merdeka.com online media, focusing on their impact on readers' perceptions. The question asked is how these two linguistic strategies affect the delivery of information and audience reactions. The purpose of this study is to identify the forms of euphemism and dysphemism used and evaluate their relevance in learning news texts. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection through news documentation from both media. The sample consisted of crime news containing euphemisms and dysphemisms, and data analysis was carried out using the content analysis method. The results showed that Tempo.co used euphemisms more to maintain neutrality and professionalism, while Merdeka.com tended to use dysphemism to create dramatic and attention-grabbing effects. These findings indicate that the choice of language style not only creates the atmosphere of the news, but also shapes the emotional response of readers. This research is expected to provide new insights in understanding the dynamics of language use in mass media and enrich teaching materials in Indonesian language learning. The results of the research can be generalized in linguistic studies and make a significant contribution to ethical journalistic practice.

Abstract

Learning Balinese script in elementary schools still faces obstacles, especially in student understanding. The lack of innovative and interactive learning media causes students to have difficulty recognizing and writing Balinese script, which has an impact on their low interest in learning. Therefore, innovation is needed in learning media, one of which is the Balinese script block media, which is designed to improve Balinese script writing skills systematically and attractively. The subjects of this study were at SD Negeri 1 Galungan, grade IV students with a total of 23 students. The object of the study was the Balinese script block media as a means to improve the ability to write Balinese script words. The methods used were descriptive qualitative and quantitative, with data collected through observation, tests, and questionnaires. The success of the study was analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing to ensure the validity of the results. The research findings showed that: (1) Balinese script block media was applied through the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages, which helped students understand the form and use of Balinese script more effectively. (2) The test results showed an increase in Balinese script writing skills, with an average score of 80.04 in cycle I, increasing to 85.61 in cycle II. (3) Students' responses to this media also increased, from a good category (19.91) in cycle I to 24.48 in cycle II, indicating higher enthusiasm in learning. The use of Balinese script block media has proven effective in improving Balinese script writing skills and creating a more interactive and enjoyable learning experience. This media not only helps students understand the form and rules of Balinese script, but also increases their involvement in learning. Therefore, this media is recommended as an alternative in learning Balinese script in elementary schools to support the preservation of Balinese script. The implications of this study indicate that interactive-based learning media innovations can be applied in formal and non-formal education systems to expand access to Balinese script learning.

Abstract

This research discusses the language style in patu mbojo. Because the whole poem is the content (it does not have a cover like pantun in general), patu becomes a medium of communication that is quite dense in meaning in the process of achievement. The data in this study consisted of eight parts chanted by two speakers, male and female. The purpose of this study is to find and identify the number of language styles used in the whole poem. The qualitative method is considered appropriate for this research and applies the method of listening and recording with descriptive analysis. The study used in this research is stylistic study. The language styles found in patu mbojo are divided into four, namely based on the selection of words, tone (the medium language style in patu mbojo aims to create a happy and peaceful atmosphere, so the tone contains humor or something fun), sentences (climax, anticlimax, parallelism, and repetition; anaphora and mesodiplosis), and directness of meaning (rhetorical; alliteration, assonance, apophasis or preterition, pleonasm, silepsis, hyperbole, and paradox and figurative language styles; simile, antonomasia, sarcasm, and pun or paranomation). Overall, the language style used is a conversational language style that is rich in various kinds of allusions to beautify and sharpen the meaning in the overall content of the poem.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze silence and slips of the tongue that occur in students' speech during the broadcasting competency test. The focus of the study is on identifying the types, characteristics, and factors that influence silence and slips of the tongue in the practice of broadcasting news. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a free-speech observation data collection technique, where researchers observe students' speech without being directly involved in the communication process. Data were obtained from videos of news broadcasting practices during the broadcasting competency test. Then, the data were analyzed using the matching method. The results of the study showed that the silence that predominantly appeared was silent pause. The identified slips of the tongue include semantic errors, syllable errors, word errors, anticipation, deletion, and spoonerism. These findings contribute to the evaluation of speaking skills learning towards understanding speech fluency disorders in an academic context and can be used as a basis for developing effective communication learning strategies for students, especially in broadcasting competency tests.
