Abstract

This study examines the personality of the characters in the play Mega-Mega by Arifin C. Noer through a literary psychology approach with Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis theory, which includes id, ego, and superego. This study aims to understand the psychological dynamics of the characters in the drama as well as how intrinsic elements such as theme, character, characterization, setting, mandate, and language style support the representation of inner conflict and social reality. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through documentation techniques from the dialog, actions, and monologues of the characters in the script. The analysis showed that characters such as Mae, Retno, Panut, Koyal, Tukijan, and Hamung reflect different personality structures. Mae shows the dominance of the superego with her loving motherhood, while Retno is dominated by the id through her impulsiveness and anger. Panut displays the ego in his attempt to balance desire and reality, while Koyal is trapped in the illusions of the id. Tukijan and Hamung display stubbornness and cynicism respectively, reflecting ego and superego. The theme of alienation and social inequality strengthens the psychological portrayal of the characters, supported by the setting such as the square and the bitter atmosphere that enlivens the narrative. This study concludes that Mega-Mega not only presents social conflicts, but also the psychological complexity of humans grappling between instinctive urges, logic, and morality, reflecting the reality of life in marginalized communities.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the Ego Defense Mechanism of the main character in the novel "Belok Kiri Langsing" by Achi TM. Ego defense mechanisms are psychological strategies that individuals use to deal with conflict, stress and threats faced in everyday life. In this study, the research method used was qualitative analysis of the text of the novel "Belok Kiri Langsing" with a focus on the behavior and dialogue of the main character. Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory is used as a theoretical framework to understand the various ego-protection mechanisms that the main character may use. The research results show that the main character uses various ego defense mechanisms, including repression, rationalization, and sublimation, to overcome the conflict and stress he experiences. Ego becomes the dominant mechanism used by the main character to suppress painful or threatening thoughts or feelings, while rationalization is used to justify the actions or decisions taken. The formation of sublimation appears as a mechanism that helps the main character divert his psychic energy to more constructive activities. This research contributes to the understanding of character characterization in the novel "Represi" and its relevance to psychoanalytic theory. The implications of this research can be used to deepen our understanding of the complexity of human psychology as reflected in literary works.

The presentation of data analysis results uses an informal method. The research results on verb roots forming derivatives in Japanese indicate that derivative formation causes morphological, syntactic, and semantic processes. Derivative formations undergoing morphological processes include the deletion of the letters "suru" する and "ru" る. Derivative formation with syntactic processes involves word class changes from verbs to nouns. Derivative formation undergoes semantic processes, namely changes in the meaning of these words.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of the TOK (Imitate, Process, and Develop) method in improving short story writing skills among grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Besuk. The issues raised are the low writing skills among students and the lack of interesting and effective learning methods. This study applies a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation, and analysis of student writing. The TOK method is carried out in three phases: the Imitate phase (imitating existing short story texts), the Process phase (changing some story elements), and the Develop phase (creating short stories independently). The findings of the study indicate that this method can help students understand the structure of short stories, develop ideas creatively, and produce writing with a more varied style. At the end of the process, students showed progress in terms of originality of ideas, story integration, richness of word choice, and the ability to convey moral messages through writing. These results indicate that the TOK method is effective for use in learning to write short stories at the high school level and can be an innovative choice in teaching Indonesian.
