Abstract

The CANTIK SEHAT program at Dungingi Primary Health Center aims to facilitate early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) among women of reproductive age. This descriptive quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach involved 55 respondents in November 2025, utilizing clinical breast screening (USG), anthropometry, and hemodynamic-metabolic examinations. Results revealed that 7.27% of respondents were at high risk for breast tumors, with 31.48% showing USG abnormalities. Regarding metabolic risks, the prevalence of obesity reached 69.1%, pre-hypertension 56.4%, and moderate diabetes risk was 65.5%. Most cases were asymptomatic, highlighting an NCD "iceberg phenomenon" exacerbated by the cultural normalization of obesity. This program proved effective as a mass screening tool for early disease identification. Strengthening primary care through education and structured lifestyle monitoring is crucial to preventively reduce female morbidity and improve long-term public health outcomes.

Abstract

Science education at an early age plays an important role in fostering scientific literacy, curiosity, and interest in learning. However, science learning for kindergarten and elementary school children is often delivered through conventional approaches that provide limited opportunities for direct exploration and experimentation. This community service program aimed to implement simple chemistry demonstrations as an interactive science education medium to enhance children's interest and curiosity toward science. The program was conducted through the Gorontalo Expolaboratorium – Science for Kidz at the Integrated Laboratory of Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, involving 17 kindergarten and elementary school students from six schools in Gorontalo Province. The activities adopted an experiential learning approach combined with inquiry-based learning, featuring five simple chemistry demonstrations: Lava Lamp, Balloon Inflation, Elephant Toothpaste, Invisible Ink, and Dragon's Breath. Program evaluation employed descriptive qualitative analysis supported by quantitative data collected through observations, documentation, participant engagement, and satisfaction surveys. The results showed that all participants completed the entire program with a high level of enthusiasm and active participation. Approximately 80% of participants and their parents expressed satisfaction with the activities. The demonstrations successfully stimulated children's curiosity, encouraged them to ask questions, participate in discussions, and relate scientific phenomena to everyday experiences. Furthermore, the program enhanced the pedagogical competencies of graduate students serving as facilitators in communicating scientific concepts to young learners. These findings indicate that simple chemistry demonstrations provide an effective, enjoyable, and experiential approach to introducing science concepts and promoting scientific literacy among young children

Abstract

The Botutonuo Beach coastal area is a prime tourist destination in Bone Bolango Regency that faces issues with the accumulation of organic and inorganic waste caused by tourist activities and debris carried in by ocean currents. This situation threatens to degrade environmental quality, detract from the area's aesthetic appeal, and compromise the sustainability of the coastal ecosystem. This community service initiative aims to enhance public knowledge, awareness, and participation regarding waste management as a means of coastal environmental conservation. The implementation process comprised pre-implementation, implementation, and post-implementation phases, involving community coordination, educational sessions on sorting and managing organic and inorganic waste, and a beach cleanup drive involving lecturers, students, and local residents. The results indicate an increased understanding among participants regarding the importance of waste sorting, reducing single-use plastic consumption, and applying the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) in daily life. Furthermore, the beach cleanup successfully reduced waste accumulation in the coastal area and fostered a collective sense of responsibility for environmental preservation. This activity demonstrates that combining education with tangible action can drive behavioral changes within the community regarding the maintenance of coastal cleanliness. Therefore, sustainable education and waste management programs must be continued through collaboration among universities, local government, tourism operators, and the community to ensure Botutonuo Beach becomes a clean, healthy, and sustainable area.

Abstract

Abstract

Water sampling skills are essential competencies for chemistry students because the accuracy of sampling procedures determines the representativeness and reliability of water quality analysis data. However, students still have limited understanding of sampling-point selection, the use of sampling equipment and containers, labeling, preservation, and field measurement of water quality parameters. This community service activity aimed to strengthen students’ competence in water sampling through a learning-by-doing approach. The program employed educational and training methods, including theoretical instruction, equipment demonstrations, field practice, discussion, and evaluation using pretest and posttest instruments. The evaluation covered four indicators: basic principles of water quality and monitoring, sampling-point selection and procedures, equipment use, labeling and sample preservation, and measurement of pH, temperature, turbidity, and dissolved oxygen. The evaluation results showed that the students’ average understanding increased from 58.75% before the training to 84.00% after the training, representing an increase of 25.25%. The highest improvement was found in equipment use, labeling, and sample preservation, with an increase of 27%. Descriptively, these findings indicate that the learning-by-doing approach strengthened students’ understanding and practical skills in water sampling and handling. Similar training should be continued through periodic practice and the development of a student-based water quality monitoring group.
