Abstract

The Banjaratma Heritage Rest Area is a form of development of the Banjaratma Sugar Factory with the concept of adaptation and revitalization. Until it was inaugurated as a rest area in 2019, the Banjaratma Sugar Factory still had the status of an Alleged Cultural Heritage Object (ODCB). This research reviews the suitability of the form of adaptation and revitalization of the Banjaratma Sugar Factory to UU No.11 of 2010 concerning Cultural Heritage and the perception of the significant values of the Banjaratma Sugar Factory. The method used is an archaeological research method, includes seven steps, including formulation, implementation, data collection, data processing, analysis, interpretation and publication. The aim of this research is to show changes in the Banjaratma Sugar Factory from time to time through the implementation of adaptation, revitalization and compliance with the Cultural Heritage Law, as well as explaining the influence of the development of the Banjaratma Sugar Factory on the significant values that have been identified. This research proves that the form of adaptation and revitalization of the Banjaratma Sugar Factory is in accordance with the principles of the Cultural Heritage Law. Of the 99 respondents consisting of administrators, sellers and visitors, the majority strongly agreed or agreed that the Banjaratma Heritage Rest Area has significant value for history, knowledge, education, culture, social and economics. The community's positive perception of these significant values shows that the development of the Banjaratma Sugar Factory through adaptation and revitalization has not caused a decline in its significant values.

Abstract

Asmaul Husna Mosque in Gading Serpong uses the Asmaul Husna calligraphy design that decorates every outer wall of the mosque using Arabic calligraphy. This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the calligraphy used and the aesthetics and symbolic meanings contained in the calligraphy at the Asmaul Husna Mosque in Gading Serpong. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach from data through printed and digital books, journals, newspapers, video documentation of the Asmaul Husna Mosque in Gading Serpong on certain platforms, as well as interviews with mosque administrators directly or indirectly as sources to maximize the results of research observations. The results of the study show that the Asmaul Husna Mosque in Gading Serpong has a unique design concept, namely the use of calligraphy with the words Asmaul Husna on every outer wall of the mosque. The Asmaul Husna calligraphy used at the Asmaul Husna Mosque in Gading Serpong is a Kufi Musattar calligraphy with stiff and angular characteristics. This design shows how elements of Islamic calligraphy art are integrated into the architecture of the mosque as a form of symbolism, Islamic identity of the place of worship, and cultural arts.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of rhetoric in Mikhail Gorbachev's resignation speech on December 25, 1991, using one of Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, namely rhetorical aspect. This speech marked the dissolution of the Soviet Union and reflected the socio-political changes during Gorbachev's leadership, particularly concerning glasnost (openness) and perestroika (restructuring) policies. Through an analysis of Aristotle's five rhetorical elements—inventio, dispositio, elocutio, memoria, and pronuntiatio—this study finds that Gorbachev employed rhetorical strategies to reframe his reform ideas, establish credibility, and influence public perception of the ongoing political transition. The findings indicate that the speech was not merely a formal declaration but also a political communication tool aimed at reinforcing the legitimacy of his reforms and shaping public opinion.

Abstract

Kukusan Village is one of the communities directly affected by the establishment of the University of Indonesia (UI) campus in Depok. Located in the northern part of Depok's city government center, the village borders South Jakarta and serves as a connecting route between Depok and South Jakarta, frequently traversed by commuters residing in Depok but working in Jakarta. The history of Kukusan Village and the transformation of its landscape since the UI campus began operating in Depok until 2016 has not been widely documented. Yet, significant visible changes have occurred in terms of social, economic, and environmental aspects. This study aims to analyze the correlation between the changes taking place in Kukusan Village and the presence of the University of Indonesia in Depok, which has contributed to reshaping Depok from merely being a buffer zone for Jakarta into an emerging center for economic and educational activities. The research employs historical methods to uncover the development and dynamics of Kukusan Village in relation to the UI campus in Depok. The findings of this study indicate that the establishment of the University of Indonesia in Depok has triggered transformations in the social, economic, and environmental facets of Kukusan Village. In particular, many residents who previously worked as farmers or cultivators have transitioned to various new professions aligned with the needs and presence of the university.

Based on this context, this study discusses both the positive and negative impacts caused by overtourism in and around Mount Fuji, as well as the policies and solutions implemented by the government to address the issue. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The findings indicate that overtourism has had impacts in the areas of economy, environment, personal safety, and socio-cultural aspects.

Abstract

This article challenges the traditional definition of music, limited to seven fixed elements: melody, harmony, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, and texture. The author suggests that all sound can be considered 'sound art,' blurring lines between music and other auditory experiences. In Mark Fisher’s hauntology, modern music is depicted as stagnant, trapped in a neoliberal pastiche that cancels the future by repeating past styles without innovation. However, this article highlights alternatives through experimental music, such as the album ANTIMELODY (2024), which uses field recording to present raw environmental sounds, challenging conventional musical structures. Movements like Jogja Noise Bombing and experimental music group Senyawa explore noise-based sounds, rejecting traditional melodies and industrial nostalgia. Music distribution via Bandcamp or Senyawa’s decentralized approach challenges Spotify’s dominance, known for unfair royalty systems, by offering better artist compensation. This article argues that in the independent music scene, innovative alternatives persist, counteracting Fisher’s “cancellation of the future,” proving that new creativity can defy the haunting influence of past cultural forms.

Abstract

This study discusses the amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in the context of Russia's limited mobilization during the implementation of its special military operation in Ukraine. It is a multidisciplinary study that combines legal and cultural perspectives, using a qualitative literature review method with a normative legal approach. The objective of this research is to analyze the changes in Russia's criminal code aimed at anticipating the impacts of limited mobilization. By applying the theory of criminalization, the study finds that the amendments and additions to existing legal norms are part of the state's efforts to protect its citizens from the direct and indirect consequences of a military emergency. The criminalization policy is closely related to Russia’s political tradition and President Putin’s policy strategy, which is reflected in the concept of the “dictatorship of law.”

Abstract

Identity is dynamic and influenced by various factors, one of which is culture. This research is an archaeological study that reviews how identity can be represented through material culture. One form of material culture is the facade of a hospital building in Kotabaru area, Yogyakarta from 1901-1929. Hospital buildings as colonial heritage material culture can be an example of how culture can be represented in physical or material form. This research uses four hospitals as primary data, including Bethesda Hospital, dr. Soetarto Hospital, Dr. Yap Eye Hospital and Panti Rapih Hospital. This research uses the archaeological method which consists of three stages, namely data collection, processing, and interpretation. The purpose of this research is to describe the facades of hospital buildings in Kotabaru area, Yogyakarta and explain the building facades that represent the cultural identity of the group they represent. This research proves that the cultural identity of the group and individual founders of hospital buildings is reflected through the facades. The different facade styles of the four buildings are also an accumulation of external factors, namely the socio-politics of the Dutch colonial government and the Yogyakarta Sultanate.
