Abstract

The research was conducted to improve mathematical literacy skills in the content of the growth phenomenon in class VIII C MTs Miftahul Huda through the development of learning videos based on the collaborative metacognition learning model assisted by CapCut. The research method used is the Research and Development Plomp model through three phases, namely preliminary analysis, prototyping, and assessment. Preliminary analysis produces the need for packaging mathematics learning that can invite students to understand mathematics material easily and solve contextual problems appropriately, so that students' mathematical literacy skills can be improved. Prototyping is carried out by designing a learning video that contains a video opening, problem presentation, problem solving, mathematical concept discovery, and video closing. The assessment was carried out by means of feasibility tests, practicality tests, and learning video effectiveness tests. The results of the video feasibility test from media experts were 0.97 and material experts were 0.97 which stated that they were very valid (feasible). Students rated the videos as very easy to use, useful, engaging, and encouraged metacognitive (practical) activities. Students' mathematical literacy increased in the medium category after using learning videos based on the collaborative metacognition learning model. Students need to get used to building mathematical concepts through contextual problem-solving even though their application takes a relatively long time. On this basis, advanced researchers need to consider the advantages of online learning that provide students with learning flexibility in building their mathematical understanding.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the results of observations that indicate that the critical thinking skills of students at SMAN 2 Yogyakarta still need to be improved. This is seen during learning practices, where they are still fixated on the formulas they have memorized to solve problems, so that not many students can provide further explanations about solving the problem. On the other hand, the pretest results also show that the average value of students' critical thinking skills is still very low, namely 30.76% with 1 student having high critical thinking skills and 33 others still classified as low and very low. Therefore, this Classroom Action Research (CAR) is a study that aims to improve critical skills in high school mathematics through discovery learning assisted by LKPD. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the study show an increase in critical thinking skills from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, the average percentage of students' critical thinking skills reached 73.64% (medium category), while in cycle II, it increased to 80.72% (high category). Thus, this classroom action research succeeded in achieving the expected goal, namely, improving critical thinking skills in secondary school mathematics through the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by LKPD

Abstract

The 21st century demands that education implement student-centered learning, involve technology, and present learning that stimulates 4C abilities (critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication). However, mathematics learning in formal education has not been able to meet the existing demands. Many the mathematics learning in formal education has not honed students' 4C abilities. As a solution, researchers took the initiative to develop MATHMART learning media that contain the material of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System (SPLDV) for grade VIII SMP/MTs students. Unlike other learning media, MATHMART has integrated the STEM approach and the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in its development. The type of research is Research and Development with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The results of this study are an average percentage of validation at the development stage by media experts of 80.5% and material experts of 86%, both of which are categorized as very valid with slight revisions. After the revision, a practicality test was conducted on 22 students at Mifathussa'adah Middle School in Kudus, and an average percentage of the practicality questionnaire was 85%, with a convenient category. MATHMART learning media helps students better understand SPLDV material and develop students' 4C abilities. Thus, MATHMART learning media can be used to help educators and students in achieving the demands of the 21st century.

Abstract

Teachers play a crucial role in developing students' mathematical literacy skills. One way teachers can assess their mathematical literacy skills is by how they pose questions with a word problem theme. Word problem questions are mathematical problems that occur in everyday life and are presented in narrative form. However, in reality, mathematics teachers often give questions in the form of mathematical symbols. This study aims to explore the obstacles experienced by teachers in compiling word problem mathematical literacy questions and their solutions. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques using tests and interviews. The data is then analyzed with the stages of reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The subjects in this study were teachers from seven different schools in Jombang Regency. The results of the study showed that the obstacles for teachers in submitting mathematical literacy questions were: difficulty in developing interesting and relevant questions to real life, difficulty in developing HOTS questions, lack of evaluation in the process of compiling mathematical literacy questions, time constraints, lack of familiarity with interactive technology and lack of training in compiling mathematical literacy questions. The solutions offered: providing mathematical literacy training through discussions and workshops, encouraging teachers to collaborate and share question ideas with other teachers, and providing relevant technology training.

Abstract

The development of the 21st century demands that students not only have the ability to think critically and creatively, but also communication skills, especially in mathematics learning. However, various studies show that students still have difficulty communicating their mathematical ideas, both verbally and in writing, especially when working in groups and facing contextual problems. The purpose of this study is to describe the mathematical communication profile of students in solving contextual problems collaboratively reviewed based on high, medium, and low self-efficacy. A qualitative approach with an exploratory research type is used in this study. The subject of the study is a student of class XI MAN 2 Malang. The research data were obtained through the results of the Contextual Problem Solving Task (TPMK) and interviews. Data analysis was carried out by the triangulation method. The results showed that students with high self-efficacy tended to communicate their mathematical ideas orally. Students with self-efficacy showed balanced verbal and written communication but were less consistent in explaining mathematical models and operations, while students with low self-efficacy were more dominant in written communication.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an interactive e-worksheet (E-LKPD) based on Liveworksheets for differentiated learning on the topic of pyramids (limas) in Phase D that is valid, practical, and effective in improving student learning outcomes. The research employed a development method using the ADDIE model, involving eighth-grade students as subjects. Instruments used include validity, practicality, and effectiveness instruments, with data collected through questionnaires and learning outcome tests. The developed product consists of three E-LKPDs tailored to students’ readiness levels: developing, proficient, and highly proficient. Validation results show an average score of 3.81 out of 4, categorized as very valid. Practicality was measured through teacher and student responses, yielding an average of 76.26%, which falls into the practical category. Effectiveness was assessed based on the learning test results, showing a mastery level of 89%, indicating that the E-LKPD is effective for classroom use. This study is essential due to the growing need for interactive learning materials that accommodate differences in student learning abilities, particularly within the current differentiated learning framework. Moreover, the use of digital tools like Liveworksheets remains underutilized, especially in mathematics topics such as pyramids. This E-LKPD is expected to make learning more engaging and tailored to individual needs, and serve as a foundation for future development of more innovative digital learning materials.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning is an essential competency assessed in the Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM) and PISA because it supports students in understanding and solving problems. However, studies have shown that Indonesian students’ mathematical reasoning ability is not optimal. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using a phenomenological framework to describe the mathematical reasoning abilities of grade VIII students in solving AKM problems related to number patterns, similar to those found in PISA, with data analysis conducted using Miles and Huberman's method. The research instruments were researchers, AKM problems of number patterns similar to PISA, and interview guidelines. Subjects were taken from each level of reasoning ability, namely the extending, consolidating, developing, beginning, and not evident levels. The results showed that students at the extended level can connect number patterns with the area of flat shapes, write patterns, use two methods, create new ideas, and show generalizations. Consolidating students are able to connect number patterns with the area of flat shapes, to write properties, to find differences in patterns, to conclude, to use two methods, and to show examples of counterexamples of conjectures. Developing students can expand patterns, convert images, prove conjectures, and identify differences in patterns, but are not yet able to draw conclusions. Beginning students cannot write conjectures and patterns, make errors in writing, using, and converting units, and perform calculations. Students at the not evident level cannot convert images, are not aware of the relationship between number patterns and the area of flat shapes, as well as rows and columns, and cannot make conjectures about number patterns.
