Abstract

Abstract: This study explores the integration of educational philosophy into the design of Javanese Script Envelope media, focusing on epistemology, ontology, axiology, and dakwah in education. In an era of globalization and digitalization, preserving local culture and identity has become increasingly challenging, particularly among younger generations. This research examines how the Javanese Script Envelope media can serve as an educational tool that not only teaches language but also fosters cultural awareness, moral values, and spiritual growth. By applying epistemological principles, the media encourages active learning and critical thinking, allowing students to construct knowledge through engagement with cultural symbols. From an ontological perspective, the study highlights the significance of viewing the Javanese script as a living cultural symbol that connects students to their heritage. In terms of axiology, the media promotes values such as respect for culture, character development, and national pride. The integration of dakwah provides a moral and spiritual framework that aligns with Islamic teachings, guiding students toward personal responsibility and community engagement. This research demonstrates that educational media, when designed with philosophical foundations, can offer a holistic learning experience that connects knowledge, culture, and values.

Abstract

The Marabose Festival is an annual cultural event in South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, that serves as a platform for showcasing the region’s rich cultural diversity. The festival, which involves various indigenous and immigrant tribes, facilitates the preservation and transmission of cultural values through performances, rituals, and art exhibitions. Beyond its ceremonial function, the Marabose Festival plays a critical role in character education, intergenerational transmission of local wisdom, and dakwah efforts. This study aims to analyze the philosophical values inherent in the Marabose Festival within the framework of multicultural education, guided by the educational philosophy of Ki Hajar Dewantara. A qualitative descriptive approach was used, with data collected through document analysis, participatory observation, and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including festival organizers, educators, students, and parents. The findings suggest that the festival’s values align with Ki Hajar Dewantara’s Tri Center of Education, Merdeka Belajar, and Among Systems. The festival fosters cognitive growth by enhancing knowledge of ethnic and cultural diversity, encourages the development of an affective attitude towards tolerance and respect, and nurtures psychomotor skills through active participation in cultural preservation. Furthermore, the festival serves as an effective tool for communication and dakwah, promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering unity in diversity. In conclusion, the Marabose Festival offers a unique opportunity for integrating multicultural education based on local wisdom into the formal education system, promoting cultural identity, tolerance, and communal harmony.

Abstract

Islam, as a major world religion, continues to face various challenges in the context of Western intellectual discourse, particularly from orientalists. One of the most prominent figures in this regard is Robert Spencer, an anti-Islamic scholar known for his controversial work The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World’s Most Intolerant Religion, which has generated significant debate and been banned in certain countries. This paper aims to critically analyze Spencer's portrayal of the Prophet Muhammad and Islam, focusing on the framing techniques he employs to present a biased and distorted narrative. The study explores how Spencer's selective interpretation of Islamic texts and historical events constructs a negative image of the Prophet Muhammad, which aligns with broader Orientalist discourse. Additionally, this paper examines Spencer's role as an activist within the Counter Jihad movement and his influence on shaping Western public perceptions of Islam. The findings underscore the ideological motivations behind his work and the implications for interfaith understanding and global perceptions of Islam.

Abstract

This article critically examines the intersection of hermeneutics and the authority of the Qur’an, specifically focusing on its implications for interpreting sacred texts. It explores whether the hermeneutic method, which emphasizes historical context, textual dynamics, and reader subjectivity, poses a challenge to the Qur’an’s divine authority or whether it contributes positively to the tafsir tradition. The study contrasts the perspectives of classical scholars, such as Al-Suyuti, who adhered to a revelation-based tafsir methodology, with the views of modern scholars like Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, who introduced a more contextualized approach to Qur'anic interpretation. By delving into the dynamics of meaning within hermeneutics, this paper investigates the potential risks of distortion (tahrif) that arise when the text is reinterpreted beyond its traditional exegesis. Furthermore, the article examines the role of hermeneutics in shaping contemporary interpretations of the Qur'an in the Indonesian context, particularly regarding sensitive issues such as gender and legal rulings. This exploration sheds light on the ongoing debate between maintaining the purity of the Qur’an’s meaning and adapting its teachings to meet the demands of modernity. Through a balanced approach, the study aims to provide recommendations for integrating hermeneutics into the tafsir tradition while ensuring that the Qur'an’s divine essence is preserved. In doing so, it underscores the importance of preserving the sacred text’s authority while making its teachings relevant to contemporary Muslim societies.

Abstract

The phenomenon of punk youth as an urban subcultural group often marginalized by society presents a unique challenge in the realm of moral and spiritual development. This study aims to explore in depth the da'wah strategies based on the values of Surah An-Nahl verse 125, emphasizing the principles of ḥikmah (wisdom), mauʿiẓah ḥasanah (good advice), and mujādalah (constructive dialogue). Employing a qualitative approach through a case study strategy, data were collected via in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of da'wah practices targeted at punk communities in urban settings. The findings reveal that an empathetic, inclusive, and contextualized approach to da'wah can foster perceptual shifts regarding religion and behavioral transformation toward positive patterns. Moreover, the integration of Qur'anic values with local cultural expressions proves effective in bridging communication between da'i and madʿū. Sustained, community-based mentoring emerges as a key factor in successfully nurturing new religious identities among individuals previously resistant to religious symbols and narratives. This study contributes a conceptual framework for developing transformative da'wah models that are responsive to the needs of marginalized communities and offers practical implications for building more adaptive, participatory, and spiritually authentic da'wah programs.

Abstract

The methods of Da’wah (Islamic proselytization) have undergone significant transformations from the classical period to the present digital era. This study explores how the Quran and Hadith serve as foundational sources for Da’wah practices, highlighting the evolving interpretive frameworks that shape these methods across different periods in Indonesian Islam. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this research delves into the roles and challenges that Quranic exegesis and Hadith interpretations have played in developing Da’wah methods. The study examines classical, modern, and digital-era Da’wah methods, analyzing their alignment with Islamic teachings, with particular emphasis on the differences in interpretive approaches by various scholars. The findings underscore the continued relevance of traditional methods such as verbal (bil lisan) Da’wah, practical (bil hal) Da’wah, and wisdom-based (bil hikmah) Da’wah, while also exploring the profound impact of social media and digital platforms on contemporary proselytization efforts. This research contributes to the literature on Islamic Da’wah methods in Indonesia, proposing that, despite the evolution of da’wah methods, the core principles of wisdom, good counsel, and exemplary behavior remain central to effective Da’wah. The study also provides insights into the opportunities and challenges digital da’wah presents, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach in leveraging new platforms while maintaining the integrity of the message.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of tafsir (Qur’anic interpretation) as a pedagogical strategy to enhance students’ understanding of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) through a contextual-based learning model in the digital era. The integration of thematic and contextual interpretation aims to bridge Qur’anic values with students’ real-life challenges, making religious learning more relevant and applicable. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation in a secondary Islamic school. The findings reveal that incorporating tafsir into PAI learning significantly improves students’ reasoning skills, contextual comprehension, and spiritual insight. Digital tools—such as interpretation apps, interactive videos, and online platforms—further enrich the learning experience. However, limitations persist, including low tafsir literacy among educators, insufficient contextual digital resources, and the need for professional development in integrating interpretation within the curriculum. This study concludes that the strategic application of contextual and technology-assisted tafsir holds considerable promise for enhancing the quality of Islamic education, provided it is supported by adequate resources and educator readiness.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of hikmah (wisdom) as a key method of da’wah (Islamic preaching) in Islam. The term hikmah appears in various contexts within the Qur'an, each carrying different meanings. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study explores the conceptual understanding and core values of hikmah in the practice of da’wah. The findings highlight that, first, hikmah is a foundational element in the da’wah method, as it integrates and complements various other approaches to preaching. Second, hikmah is frequently linked to gentleness and wisdom in the delivery of Islamic messages. This study also affirms that the essence of hikmah in da’wah lies in its alignment with the principles outlined in the Qur'an and Sunnah, which emphasize the importance of wisdom, contextual relevance, and effective communication in conveying Islamic teachings
