Abstract

This study examines the use and framing of the hadith concerning “women’s deficiency in reason and religion” in digital religious discourse, focusing on the Instagram account @thequran_path as an example of social media based da’wa. The study employs a qualitative approach and document analysis to examine selected Instagram content. It combines Robert M. Entman’s framing analysis with Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir’s mubadalah methodology to examine how the hadith is presented and interpreted from a relational and gender just perspective. The findings show that the expression “deficiency in reason” does not necessarily indicate an inherent intellectual deficiency in women but can be understood in relation to the specific social and religious context of the hadith. The mubadalah approach also highlights limitations in literal and defensive interpretations that focus on textual and fiqh based explanations without sufficiently considering their social implications. Furthermore, the framing analysis shows that @thequran_path presents criticism of gender related interpretations primarily as an issue of individual perception rather than addressing the structural dimensions of religious discourse in digital spaces. These findings indicate that the interpretation and digital framing of the hadith shape perceptions of women and gender relations. A contextual and relational reading is therefore needed to prevent the reproduction of gender inequality in digital religious discourse.

Abstract

The empty nest syndrome phenomenon occurs when children leave home, often triggering feelings of loneliness, loss, and emptiness, especially for mothers. This study aims to analyze the relationship between marital satisfaction and empty nest syndrome in 109 housewives aged 40 to 60 who no longer live with their children. This study employs a quantitative method with a correlational design. Data were collected online via a questionnaire, using the ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Scale (EMS) and an empty nest syndrome scale measuring aspects of loss, sadness, and emptiness. Based on statistical analysis using Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, the results showed a negative correlation between marital satisfaction and empty nest syndrome among housewives (r = -0.386, p <0.001). The findings of this study are consistent with the proposed hypothesis, which states that there is a negative relationship between marital satisfaction and empty nest syndrome among housewives.

Abstract

This study explores the meaning of the tradition of increasing sunnah prayers implemented at the Yambu'ul Qur'an Islamic Boarding School (PPYQ), Plosoklaten, Kediri. This tradition is implemented as a form of application of the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW which emphasizes the importance of getting closer to Allah through sunnah prayers, hadiths that show the example of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and following the saints. A phenomenological approach is used to understand the subjective experiences of the santri in carrying out this tradition, both in daily life and as a form of ta'zir (punishment). This study is analyzed using Peter L. Berger's social construction theory to explain the santris' experiences in the practice of the tradition of increasing sunnah prayers. The results of this study reveal that the tradition of increasing sunnah prayers at PPYQ not only aims to shape the spiritual and moral character of santri, but also fosters peace of mind, creates discipline, and facilitates learning and memorization. The results of this study provide theoretical and practical insights into the implementation of hadith-based religious traditions in the context of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), as well as their impact on the formation of Islamic values and social piety among santri.

Abstract

The punishment imposed on Ibn Shanabūdh has often been associated with the practice of qirāʾāt shādhdhah. However, the existence of such readings does not necessarily render them unworthy of scholarly investigation. The more important question is why a reading that possessed a transmission tradition became contested when it was openly practiced and taught. This study aims to analyze the factors underlying the punishment of Ibn Shanabūdh, the role of Ibn Mujāhid’s authority and Abbasid political power, and the boundary between qirāʾāt shādhdhah as an object of scholarly inquiry and as a practice of Qur’anic recitation. This study employs a qualitative method with a historical-critical approach, based on a literature review of classical sources on qirāʾāt, history, biography, and contemporary scholarship. The findings indicate that Ibn Shanabūdh’s punishment was not caused solely by his dissemination of qirāʾāt shādhdhah, but was related to his practice of reciting readings that diverged from the ʿUthmānic muṣḥaf, teaching and reciting them publicly, and maintaining these readings when they were challenged. The conflict subsequently developed into an institutional issue through the involvement of Ibn Mujāhid and Abbasid political authority. These findings underscore the importance of distinguishing qirāʾāt shādhdhah as a field of scholarly knowledge from their practice as Qur’anic recitations claimed to be legitimate in the public sphere.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of law enforcement against mangrove degradation in Langsa City and analyzes the interaction between environmental law, gampong customary mechanisms, and Islamic criminal law (jinayat). It employs an empirical juridical method with a socio-legal approach and a descriptive-analytical design. Field research was conducted in August 2026 in Kuala Langsa. Primary data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with the Head of the Langsa City Environmental Agency and the Keuchik of Kuala Langsa Village, selected purposively to represent environmental governance and village-level practice. Secondary data were drawn from legislation, qanun, academic literature, previous research, and documented news reports. Data were analyzed qualitatively through source triangulation and operationalized using Soerjono Soekanto’s five factors of law enforcement effectiveness: legal substance, law enforcers, facilities, society, and legal culture. The findings show that the formal legal basis for mangrove protection is relatively adequate, but enforcement effectiveness is constrained by limited monitoring personnel, facilities, time, and the absence of specific village-level customary norms on mangrove cutting. Village responses remain predominantly preventive and restorative through warnings, guidance, deliberation, and ecological awareness, while a documented 2024 case demonstrates that criminal instruments may be used when concrete evidence and alleged criminal elements exist. The conceptual contribution of this study lies in positioning mangrove protection within an Acehnese ecological legal pluralism framework that connects national environmental law, gampong customary mechanisms, and jinayat values. Fasad fi al-ardh, maqasid al-shariah, and hifz al-bi’ah provide an ethical-normative basis for ecological protection, whereas ta’zir may only have positive legal consequences when formally regulated through qanun in accordance with legality, proportionality, and harmonization with national law. Green criminology is used as a supporting perspective to explain cumulative and low-visibility environmental harm.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the bureaucracy of the new BPJS regulations and policy information/dissemination on the formation of public perceptions and to explain these findings from the perspective of Max Weber’s theory of bureaucracy. The study employs a quantitative approach using a survey of 452 BPJS users in East Jakarta and West Jakarta, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and linear regression. The findings show that understanding and implementation of BPJS regulations have a strong relationship with public perceptions, with a correlation coefficient of 0.621 and a statistically significant effect (p < 0.05), R² = 0.385, and a regression coefficient of 0.800. Meanwhile, information and dissemination of BPJS regulations demonstrate a stronger relationship with public perceptions, with a correlation coefficient of 0.647, a statistically significant effect (p < 0.05), R² = 0.418, and a regression coefficient of 0.746. The survey findings also indicate that 77% of respondents had never accessed the official BPJS website, 60% were aware of the new regulations, and 51% were aware of the controversy surrounding the policy, while social media was the primary source of information, accounting for 47%. These findings indicate that limited access to official information may widen information asymmetry and influence how the public understands BPJS bureaucratic regulations. Theoretically, this study extends the application of Max Weber’s theory of bureaucracy by demonstrating that bureaucratic effectiveness is determined not only by the existence of legal-rational rules but also by an organization’s ability to communicate regulations clearly, transparently, and in an accessible manner to the public. Thus, policy dissemination functions as a communication mechanism connecting legal-rational authority, procedural certainty, and the formation of public perceptions of public policy.

Abstract

As a religious organization approaching its centennial, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) must strengthen its programs at the grassroots level, specifically the Ranting level. This study examines the work program innovations of the Nahdlatul Ulama Local Branch Board (PRNU) in Pandantoyo, Kertosono District, Nganjuk Regency, focusing on two flagship initiatives: the Waste Bank Movement led by Fatayat NU and the NU Banana Planting Movement (PISNU). Unlike previous studies on NU innovation which typically focus on formal institutional levels at the national or Branc scale, such as economic institution product innovations, the digitalization of NU Online, or administrative registration systems (SiregalNU) this research highlights innovation at the *Ranting* level, where resource constraints are significantly greater. The study uses a qualitative, naturalistic approach, drawing on interviews, field observations, and documentation; data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman interactive model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The study uses a governance theory framework to analyze decision-making processes, participation, and accountability in managing these two programs. The results indicate that both programs transform the religious organization from a purely spiritual entity into an agent of socio-economic and environmental development rooted in social capital and local potential. However, both programs face distinct implementation challenges: low participation rates in the waste bank initiative and potential conflicts of interest within PISNU. These findings underscore that social capital and religious zeal alone cannot ensure program sustainability; formal, transparent, and accountable governance structures are essential for community-based innovations to endure beyond the initial phase of enthusiasm

Abstract

This article aims to identify the conceptual nature of qasam (oath) and jadal (argumentative dialectic) in the Qur'an, to examine the redactional structure and argumentative methodology accompanying them, and to analyze the relevance of both concepts to the development of Islamic Education Management. The study employs a qualitative library-research approach, using content analysis of authoritative works on ulum al-Qur'an, tafsir, and related scholarly articles. The findings show that qasam is constructed upon three constitutive elements adat al-qasam, muqsam bih, and muqsam 'alaih which function as an instrument of taukid (emphasis) to remove the addressee's doubt, whereas jadal undergoes a shift in meaning from defensive rebuttal toward a means of logical education oriented toward attaining objective truth through analogy, refutation of the opponent's logic, and rhetorical questioning. Axiologically, qasam provides a theological foundation for the integrity and commitment of leadership in Islamic educational institutions, while jadal offers a framework for critical pedagogy and persuasive conflict-resolution strategies. This study concludes that the synergy between qasam and jadal forms an integrative paradigm of Islamic education management that is structurally robust while remaining intellectually and spiritually alive.

Abstract

The differences in the patterns of resolving nusyūz in QS. al-Nisā’ (4):34 and (4):128 indicate an asymmetry in the mechanisms of admonition between husbands and wives. QS. al-Nisā’ (4):34 presents a sequence of wa‘ẓ, hajr fī al-maḍāji‘, and ḍarb, whereas QS. al-Nisā’ (4):128 emphasizes iṣlāḥ and ṣulḥ. These differences have the potential to produce a hierarchical construction of marital relations when understood literally without considering the broader objectives of family formation. This study aims to analyze the differences in the patterns of admonition presented in the two verses and critically examine them from the perspective of Jamāluddīn ‘Aṭiyyah’s theory of maqāṣid al-usrah. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research with a descriptive-critical method, through an analysis of the verses and the interpretations of both classical and contemporary exegetes. The findings indicate that differences in the mechanisms of resolving nusyūz do not necessarily signify injustice; rather, they should be directed toward common objectives, namely preserving family integrity, realizing sakinah, mawaddah, and raḥmah, protecting the dignity of both spouses, and preventing harm. Therefore, the resolution of nusyūz should ideally be oriented toward restoring marital relations, fostering communication, promoting reconciliation, and realizing mutual welfare. The novelty of this study lies in its comparative reading of QS. al-Nisā’ (4):34 and 128 as a unified relational issue, utilizing maqāṣid al-usrah as a critical lens to address the asymmetry in admonition patterns, rather than merely comparing methods for resolving nusyūz. Theoretically, the study extends the application of ‘At}iyyah’s maqāsid al-usrah framework to the analysis of gender relations and corrective mechanisms within the family; practically, it proposes an approach to resolving nusyūz that prioritizes relationship restoration, mutual consultation, reconciliation, and the prevention of violence in family life.

Abstract

SEAblings, a portmanteau of “Southeast Asia” and “siblings”, is used as a term of kinship that marks Southeast Asian regional identity in digital interactions. This study examines changes in the meaning and function of SEAblings as a regional marker by comparing two ad hoc publics that emerged in different contexts: cross-border solidarity with online drivers in Indonesia in 2025 and the conflict between SEAblings and Korean netizens (KNetz) in 2026. To trace shifts in its meaning, the use of the terms SEAblings and SEAbling on X was examined historically from 15 July 2006 to 14 July 2026. A qualitative approach using non-participatory netnography was applied to 623 data units collected from the two events that gave rise to these ad hoc publics. The analysis follows the sequence of events while considering the function of each data unit within the conversation. Evidence of SEAblings being used in a regional context has been identified since 2020–2021. In 2025, the label was widely used to describe relationships that developed through practices of cross-border assistance. Its meaning shifted when SEAblings re-emerged in 2026 as a symbol of regional defense in a digital conflict with KNetz, where counterattacks became the dominant form of engagement. The findings indicate that the continued use of the same term over time does not necessarily refer to the same public. When a new event emerges, the label may be taken up by different participants through different forms of engagement.
