Learners’ ability in carrying out communicative activities is highly demanded in the spoken English classroom. This paper discusses some aspects that should be taken into account when conducting a spoken English class in relation to raising pragmatic awareness through the inclusion of pragmatic instruction in the classroom. Some theoretical reviews for the inclusion of pragmatic instruction are also discussed. Through the inclusion of instruction in pragmatics in the spoken English classroom, learners are expected to develop their pragmatic competence and, therefore, are able to communicate naturally despite the fact that the full range of interactions with native speakers is limited.

This study aims to describe the effect of the application of the discovery learning method on the learning of writing poetry text by students of grade VIII SMP N 1 Doloksanggul in the 2023/2024 learning year. The population of this study were all VIII grade students of SMP N 1 Doloksanggul in the 2023/2024 Learning year which amounted to 240 people. the sample of this study was 30 people who represented the entire population while to determine the sample from the existing population with random sampling techniques (randomized random class). The research method used is the experimental method. to capture data Used to find the effect of certain treatments on learning to write poetry texts as many as 20 objective questions and assign students to write poetry texts. To determine the relationship between the two variables studied, the data analysis technique uses the correlation formula "t" which is called the t-test. The results of data processing obtained the average value of mastery of writing poetry texts of VIII grade students of SMP N 1 Doloksanggul for the control class for the 2023/22024 learning year of 61.5 Including quite good. While the acquisition of the average value of the ability to write poetry by students of class VIII SMP N 1 Doloksanggul for the experimental class for the 2023/2024 learning year of 76.83 includes good criteria. The correlation coefficient of the correlation index (txy) is 0.05 with the interpretation that the contribution of the effect of the application of the discovery learning method to the learning of writing poetry text by class VIII students of SMP N 1 Doloksanggul in the 2023/2024 learning year is a high correlation. Hypothesis testing is done by consulting the price of ttabel with to. The table used is one group preetest-posttest with a significant level of 5% at N = 30 which is 2.639. It turns out that the ttabel obtained is greater than to, namely 2.639 < 4.97. Thus the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. This is in learning to write poetry by applying the discovery learning method is more effective on the ability to write poetry text by students of class VIII SMP N 1 Doloksanggul in the 2023/2024 learning year.

This study aims to analyze the relationship between students' mastery of novel theory and their ability to appreciate the intrinsic elements of the synopsis of Rembulan Tenggelam di Wajahmu, a novel by Tere Liye, among tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Siborongborong in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research employs a correlational survey method, with data collected through multiple-choice objective tests. The sample consists of 40 randomly selected students. The results indicate a significant correlation between students' mastery of novel theory and their ability to appreciate the intrinsic elements of a novel synopsis. The findings suggest that the higher a student understands novel theory, the better their literary appreciation skills. This study's implications can serve as a reference for improving literature learning in schools, particularly in enhancing students' appreciation of literary works through a theoretical understanding.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap berbagai nilai pendidikan karakter yang terdapat dalam novel Padang Bulan karya Andrea Hirata. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan struktural dalam kajian sastra. Novel Padang Bulan menjadi sumber utama dalam penelitian ini, sementara data yang dikaji berupa nilai-nilai karakter yang tersirat di dalamnya. Proses analisis data dilakukan melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya sejumlah nilai pendidikan karakter, seperti nilai religius, kejujuran, kerja keras, kemandirian, rasa ingin tahu, sikap bersahabat dan komunikatif, kegemaran membaca, serta tanggung jawab. Keseluruhan nilai tersebut berpotensi membentuk kepribadian positif dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

This study investigates the expression of modality—the linguistic means of conveying certainty, obligation, and speaker attitude—in English and Javanese short stories through a contrastive analysis. While modality plays a critical role in both languages, its realization exhibits notable cross-linguistic differences. Drawing on semantic and pragmatic frameworks, particularly the typology of modality proposed by Palmer (1986) and Nguyen Hoa (2004), this study categorizes and examines epistemic, deontic, dynamic, and intentional modalities. The findings reveal that English modal verbs tend to maintain relatively fixed meanings, whereas Javanese modality is characterized by greater contextual flexibility, often influenced by affixation and nuanced cultural cues. These contrasts underscore the linguistic richness of Javanese and highlight the importance of understanding modality in second language acquisition. The study contributes to the fields of language pedagogy, translation, and intercultural communication by emphasizing the need for accurate interpretation of modality across linguistic and cultural boundaries.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran Explicit Instruction terhadap kemampuan menulis teks persuasi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Balige Tahun Pembelajaran 2024/2025. Metode yang digunakan adalah eksperimen dengan desain posttest only control group design, melibatkan dua kelas yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol yang masing-masing terdiri dari 32 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes tertulis menulis teks persuasi yang dinilai berdasarkan lima aspek: kelengkapan isi, gagasan, kalimat ajakan, tata bahasa, dan ejaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang diajar dengan model Explicit Instruction memiliki rata-rata nilai 78,28, melebihi nilai KKM yang ditetapkan (75) dan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kelas kontrol yang memperoleh rata-rata 62,65. Hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan uji-t menunjukkan nilai thitung sebesar 6,466 > ttabel 1,669 pada taraf signifikansi 0,05, yang berarti terdapat pengaruh signifikan model Explicit Instruction terhadap kemampuan menulis teks persuasi. Dengan demikian, model ini efektif diterapkan dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia khususnya dalam pengembangan keterampilan menulis.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya kemampuan berbicara siswa SMAN 1 Siborongborong (rata-rata pre-test 69,19) akibat pembelajaran yang kurang kontekstual. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur efektivitas metode role-playing yang berbantuan budaya, menggunakan naskah "Drama Perang Batak", terhadap kemampuan berbicara. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi-eksperimen dengan desain pre-test post-test control group. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan pada kelas eksperimen. Skor rata-rata post-test (76,91) terbukti secara statistik lebih tinggi daripada skor pre-test (69,19). Hasil uji hipotesis (uji-t) mengonfirmasi temuan ini, di mana nilai thitung (3,787) secara signifikan lebih besar dari ttabel (2,030) pada α = 0,05. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, disimpulkan secara lugas bahwa metode role-playing berbantuan budaya (Drama Perang Batak) terbukti efektif secara signifikan dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.

Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah menganalisis dampak interferensi bahasa daerah dan bahasa asing terhadap penggunaan Bahasa Indonesia baku yang termanifestasi dalam kesalahan berbahasa pada papan nama dan iklan di Kecamatan Medan Maimun. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif kualitatif dengan kerangka Analisis Kesalahan Berbahasa (AKB) terhadap korpus data teks visual. Hasil analisis terhadap 14 temuan kesalahan pada tataran Fonologi/Ejaan, Semantik, dan Sintaksis menunjukkan bahwa seluruh penyimpangan disebabkan oleh tekanan linguistik dwi-arah. Pola kesalahan terbagi menjadi Interferensi Horizontal dari bahasa lisan/lokal (Batak & Melayu Medan) yang memicu singkatan non-baku dan ambiguitas semantik; serta Interferensi Vertikal dari bahasa asing (Inggris) yang memicu transfer leksikal dalam konteks komersial. Secara esensial, temuan ini menggarisbawahi adanya kerentanan normatif pada Bahasa Indonesia baku di ruang publik metropolitan. Simpulan ini menegaskan urgensi intervensi regulatif dan edukatif untuk memastikan konsistensi kaidah di tengah kompleksitas sosiolinguistik Kota Medan.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh gaya hidup Generasi Z terhadap pelestarian tradisi lokal di Desa Sigompul, Kecamatan Lintong Nihuta, Kabupaten Humbang Hasundutan. Menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan pendekatan survei, data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner dan dianalisis menggunakan regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gaya hidup Generasi Z berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap tradisi lokal. Generasi Z, meskipun sangat terpapar oleh teknologi dan modernisasi, tetap mampu menjadi agen pelestari budaya melalui pemanfaatan media digital dan pendekatan adaptif. Nilai signifikansi (p < 0,05) dan t hitung > t tabel menguatkan bahwa gaya hidup modern dapat berjalan seiring dengan pelestarian budaya lokal. Temuan ini memberikan implikasi bahwa strategi pelestarian budaya perlu merangkul keterlibatan aktif generasi muda serta memanfaatkan pendekatan digital untuk memastikan kesinambungan budaya dalam konteks zaman yang terus berkembang.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan deep learning dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka dengan pendekatan naratif, mengkaji literatur dari jurnal nasional dan internasional, buku, prosiding, dan publikasi resmi terkait penerapan teknologi deep learning dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa deep learning memberikan kontribusi signifikan terhadap peningkatan kualitas proses dan hasil belajar Bahasa Indonesia. Teknologi ini memungkinkan personalisasi pembelajaran, meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa, serta memfasilitasi pemahaman teks secara mendalam. Model pembelajaran berbasis inkuiri, discovery learning, Project-Based Learning, dan Problem-Based Learning yang didukung deep learning terbukti meningkatkan kreativitas, berpikir kritis, kolaborasi, dan kemandirian belajar siswa. Pemanfaatan media digital interaktif, seperti aplikasi kuis dan kamus digital, mendukung motivasi, minat belajar, dan prestasi akademik. Penerapan deep learning juga mendorong pembelajaran kontekstual, khususnya terkait isu sosial dan lingkungan, sehingga menghubungkan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dengan kebutuhan sosial-budaya yang lebih luas. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa integrasi deep learning dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia efektif untuk meningkatkan kompetensi bahasa dan literasi siswa
