Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of guided inquiry as a strategy for improving Arabic writing skills among Madrasah Tsanawiyah students. The research involved implementing guided inquiry methods in writing instruction over a semester and assessing its impact on students’ grammar, coherence, and critical thinking. Data were collected through pretest and posttest assessments of students’ writing, along with observational data on classroom interactions and student feedback. Results indicated significant improvements in grammar accuracy, sentence complexity, and essay coherence. Students demonstrated enhanced abilities to organize and develop arguments, use evidence effectively, and express their opinions with greater clarity. The guided inquiry approach also positively influenced students' perceptions of their writing abilities and confidence. Despite these gains, challenges such as difficulties in self-editing and generating ideas without direct guidance were noted. The findings suggest that guided inquiry is a valuable pedagogical tool for enhancing writing skills but also highlight the need for additional support mechanisms to address ongoing challenges.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital learning tools has significantly influenced the acquisition of Arabic as a second language (ASLA). This study examines the impact of mobile applications and online platforms on ASLA learners, focusing on their effectiveness in enhancing language skills, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research incorporates quantitative data from surveys and qualitative insights from interviews and classroom observations. The findings indicate that digital learning tools contribute positively to ASLA acquisition, particularly through gamification, AI-based tutoring, and interactive platforms. However, challenges such as technical barriers, limited feedback mechanisms, and the need for contextualized cultural integration persist. The study highlights the importance of combining digital learning tools with traditional teaching methods to optimize language learning outcomes. Future research is recommended to explore the long-term effects of digital learning tools on Arabic language acquisition and develop more adaptive and culturally relevant educational technologies.

Abstract

This study explores the phenomenon of semantic shifts in the Arabic language, examining key lexical terms that have undergone changes from Classical Arabic to Modern Arabic. The research employs a diachronic approach to trace the historical evolution of meanings and analyze the sociocultural, political, and technological factors influencing these changes. By utilizing classical and modern dictionaries such as Lisan al-Arab, Taj al-‘Arus, and Al-Mu‘jam Al-Wasith, along with textual analysis from literary, historical, and contemporary media sources, this study identifies patterns of semantic change, including amelioration, pejoration, broadening, and narrowing of meaning. The findings reveal that semantic shifts in Arabic occur as a natural response to societal developments and cultural transformations. Terms that were once confined to religious or literary contexts in Classical Arabic have acquired new meanings due to modern advancements and globalization. This research highlights the implications of semantic change for understanding classical and modern Arabic texts, translation challenges, and language education. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for further research using digital corpus analysis and the development of a diachronic Arabic dictionary to systematically document semantic evolution across different historical periods.

Abstract

his study investigates the cognitive and neurolinguistic aspects of Arabic sentence processing among native and non-native speakers. Using a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates behavioral experiments and neuroimaging techniques (EEG and fMRI) to analyze differences in sentence comprehension and processing strategies. The participants included 30 native Arabic speakers (L1) and 30 advanced Arabic learners (L2), ensuring linguistic diversity. The results revealed significant differences in reaction time and accuracy between native and non-native speakers, with L2 learners exhibiting longer processing times and lower comprehension accuracy, particularly in syntactically complex sentences. Neuroimaging data indicated distinct brain activation patterns, with native speakers relying on automatic syntactic processing while non-native speakers showed increased reliance on working memory-related areas. The findings also highlighted cognitive strategies used by non-native speakers to compensate for linguistic challenges, including reliance on lexical cues and contextual inference. These results have important implications for Arabic language instruction, suggesting that curriculum design should incorporate targeted strategies to enhance syntactic parsing efficiency among L2 learners. While the study provides valuable insights, limitations such as sample size and experimental conditions warrant further longitudinal research to track changes in sentence processing over time.

Abstract

Assessing Arabic speaking competence requires an evaluation method that accurately reflects students’ communicative abilities. This study examines the effectiveness of performance-based assessment in evaluating Arabic-speaking skills, focusing on fluency, coherence, accuracy, pronunciation, and confidence. Using a qualitative research design with thematic analysis, data were collected through structured speaking tasks, rubric-based assessments, observations, and interviews. The findings indicate that performance assessment provides a more comprehensive and authentic evaluation of speaking proficiency compared to traditional methods. Students who engaged in interactive speaking activities demonstrated higher fluency and coherence, while pronunciation challenges were primarily linked to phonemes unique to Arabic. Additionally, language anxiety was found to hinder speaking performance, emphasizing the importance of confidence-building strategies. The study highlights the advantages of performance assessment, particularly in offering detailed formative feedback and fostering intrinsic motivation among learners. These findings suggest that integrating performance-based evaluation into Arabic language instruction can enhance speaking proficiency and create a more effective learning environment. Future research should explore the implementation of digital tools in performance assessment and examine its long-term impact on Arabic language acquisition.

Abstract

Arabic literature is the most authentic reflection of the social, cultural, and political dynamics that have shaped the Arab world from the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah) to the peak of Islamic civilization. This article examines the historical development of Arabic literature by highlighting the shifts in themes, forms, and functions of literature within the context of Arab societal changes.During the Jahiliyyah period, poetry served as the primary medium for expressing tribal identity, pride, and collective existence. With the advent of Islam, literature underwent a major transformation with the revelation of the Qur’an, which not only altered the structure of language and rhetoric but also expanded the intellectual horizons of Arab society. This evolution reached its peak during the Abbasid era, when literature flourished as a vehicle for intellectualism, social critique, and philosophical exploration, alongside the advancement of knowledge centers such as Baghdad. This study employs historical-philosophical and philological approaches to demonstrate that Arabic literature is not merely a cultural product, but also an agent of civilizational change. By viewing literature as a mirror of its era, this article underscores the importance of understanding literary works as an integral part of the history of Islamic civilization.
