Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of daily habit of reading picture storybooks on the character formation and language development of young children. The research employs a qualitative method using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, analyzing 22 relevant articles. The study findings indicate that the habit of reading one picture storybook daily contributes positively to enriching vocabulary, enhancing communication skills, and shaping children's character through the moral and social values embedded in stories. Factors influencing the effectiveness of this habit include active interaction between parents and teachers in accompanying children during reading, consistent reading frequency, as well as family and school environments that support early literacy. Regular reading activities have been shown to support holistic child development, both in language and character aspects. Therefore, reading picture storybooks daily can be an effective strategy in early childhood education, as it not only enhances language skills but also builds positive and empathetic personalities in children. This research highlights the importance of the role of adults and the environment in fostering literacy habits.

Abstract

Literacy development in children aged 5–6 is crucial for fostering cognitive growth, school readiness, and social competence. However, implementing effective literacy teaching strategies remains challenging in diverse educational settings. This study employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine the impact of digital learning media on early childhood literacy, focusing on the competencies developed and factors influencing effectiveness. Analysis of 34 selected studies reveals that digital media significantly enhances literacy skills, particularly in language, communication, and cognitive domains. Interactive tools such as digital storybooks, educational applications, and learning games promote engagement, vocabulary expansion, narrative comprehension, and critical thinking. The active involvement of parents and educators is essential in guiding children and selecting developmentally appropriate digital content. Although the direct effects on reading and writing acquisition remain underexplored, findings suggest that integrating digital media in literacy instruction can make learning more enjoyable and effective. The study concludes that digital media serves as a promising pedagogical tool to strengthen early literacy when supported by active adult participation, thoughtful content design, and conducive learning environments.

Abstract

This research focuses on developing an interactive picture book as a learning medium to teach the concept of quantity comparison to early childhood learners. The study addresses a critical need for more effective and engaging educational tools, as conventional teaching methods often prove insufficient and are not well-suited to the cognitive characteristics of children in the preoperational stage. The research followed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, utilizing the ADDIE development model. This process encompasses the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. A limited trial was conducted with 11 students from a kindergarten, aged 5-6 years. The findings from expert validation demonstrated that the medium is highly valid, achieving an average validity score of 96.36%. Additionally, practicality assessments provided very positive feedback, with a 90.9% score from teachers and a 91.24% score from parents, confirming the medium’s practical utility. The student trial also revealed a notable improvement in children's enthusiasm, active engagement, and overall comprehension of quantity comparison. Ultimately, this study's practical contribution is the development of a valid, practical, and effective innovative learning medium that can serve as a valuable resource for educators and parents.

Abstract

Instilling religious values from an early age serves as an essential foundation for shaping children's character and spirituality. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Prophet's Journey Board as a means of introducing the story of Isra Mi'raj to children at RA Nurul Ulum, Semarang City. This study involved 18 children in group A and used a descriptive qualitative approach by comparing learning activities using visual media and learning without media. Data were obtained through direct observation, simple tests, teacher interviews, and learning documentation with assessment indicators covering understanding of the sequence of events of Isra Mi'raj. The data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively by triangulating the results of observations, tests, and interviews. The study found that this media was effective in improving children's understanding of the sequence of events of Isra Mi'raj and the underlying ethics. With its visual and interactive approach, the Prophet's Journey Board media proved to be an effective educational strategy in conveying abstract material in a concrete manner based on the cognitive growth stages of early childhood. Thus, these findings indicate that the integration of play media as religious learning can be an effective alternative strategy in instilling religious values from an early age.

Abstract

Aspects of social-emotional development are critical to young children’s overall development, in early childhood inclusive classrooms where children have a wide variety of needs. In Indonesia, a number inclusive education programs continue to grapple with the development of empathy, cooperation and emotional regulation, demonstrating that evidence-based strategies for young children to develop these abilities is an urgent priority. This investigation focused on the effect of service-learning experiences for children in inclusive early childhood programs. Twelve 5- to 6-year-old students participated from an inclusive classroom, using a mixed-method design. The collection of quantitative data was provided from PAPI testing, while the qualitative part consisted of classroom observations around peer interaction and affect regulation as well as semi-structured teacher interviews about engagement and feasibility. Students, overall, demonstrated a 32% average increase in social-emotional competence with the largest increase in empathy (35%), cooperation (30%) and emotional regulation (28%). Teachers noted better participation and cooperation between students as well. These results suggest that service-learning is an effective intervention for promoting social-emotional competence in inclusive preschool classrooms. The research contributes with practical applications for Indonesian educators and policy makers to implement service-learning in inclusive education that supports both social-emotional development as well as equitable learning beginning in the early years of education.

Abstract

Disability includes a range of conditions that affect an individual’s ability to interact within society. In autistic children, difficulties in communication and social interaction are the primary challenges that affect classroom participation. This study explores the role of teachers in facilitating social interaction among autistic children in an early childhood education setting. Using a descriptive qualitative case study, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The analysis involved data reduction, data presentation, and verification. Findings show that the two autistic children observed still relied heavily on teacher support, with limited reciprocal interaction. Teachers acted as facilitators, motivators, mentors, and evaluators by providing structured guidance and emotional support. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on real classroom interactions in PAUD settings and the adaptive strategies teachers use based on the child’s autism severity. Practically, the study highlights the need for professional development for early childhood teachers in inclusive communication strategies and play-based social facilitation. Future research is recommended to explore alternative pedagogical approaches and collaborative models involving teachers, therapists, and parents.

Abstract

The importance of children expressing their opinions, being heard, and being facilitated has a significant impact on their lives and serves as a protective factor against various risks. Freedom of speech is an important element in improving children's welfare, safety, and development. This study aims to explore children's perspectives on their ideal teacher, based on their right to express their thoughts on the definition of an ideal teacher according to them. The research used a qualitative method with a case study approach through two-cycle coding, where the first coding was done on data units and the second coding was used to validate the previous results. The research participants consisted of 39 children, 12 guardians, and two kindergarten and RA teachers in Pati Regency, with data obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that the two teachers from the kindergarten and RA were viewed as ideal teachers by both children and adults, with characteristics including pedagogical competence, personality, professionalism, social skills, and attractive appearance. This study contributes to broadening the understanding of children's voices regarding ideal teachers in early childhood education, which can serve as a basis for teachers to improve the quality of learning and pedagogical relationships that are more child-centered.

Abstract

Memorization is an activity that requires motivation, perseverance, habit formation, and appropriate guidance from an educator. In early childhood, enthusiasm for memorization tends to be unstable, requiring continuous support. Based on these conditions, this study was conducted to examine the role of tahfidz teachers in increasing the motivation of students to memorize in the Tahfidz Belia Program at the Bustanul Qur'an Al-Asror Islamic Boarding School. The study applied a qualitative approach with data collection methods in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Primary data was obtained through direct observation and interviews, while secondary data was obtained from documents and records of the students' memorization progress. The results of the study show that tahfidz teachers play a significant role in guiding students during the memorization process. Teachers not only act as motivators, but also as mentors, inspirers, and evaluators who systematically monitor memorization progress. Various strategies were implemented to increase motivation, including setting memorization targets, individualized approaches, rewards, and structured tahfidz routines. This approach proved effective in increasing the students' discipline and enthusiasm for learning. The study also identified inhibiting factors, such as young age, lack of focus, and peer influence. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for educational institutions in developing more effective tahfidz programs.

Abstract

The rapid development of technology is an urgency that drove this research to deeply examine the use of multimedia learning as a storytelling method for early childhood teachers. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted at TK Dharma Wanita 1 Demangan, involving the principal, three classroom teachers, and 27 students. Data collection was carried out through observation of the method's implementation and children's responses, interviews with the principal and teachers regarding the application and constraints, and documentation of the learning process. The results showed that the implementation of the multimedia-based storytelling method was well realized through four structured stages: planning, introduction, implementation, and evaluation. This method proved effective in enhancing four main aspects of child development, including learning attractiveness, language ability, creativity, cognitive development, and social development, characterized by the children's high enthusiasm and participation. The main supporting factors include the children's enthusiasm and the availability of technological devices, while the hindering factors involve infrastructure limitations and the lack of adequate teacher training. The contribution of this research is the affirmation that interactive multimedia is an effective and relevant medium for improving the quality of the storytelling method for Early Childhood Education (ECE) teachers.
