Abstract

Competence of Filipino Secondary Science Teachers in Developing Self-Learning Modules (SLMs). Objectives: This study investigates the competence of Filipino secondary science teachers in developing SLMs in terms of intellectual property compliance, learning competencies, instructional design and organization, instructional quality, assessment, and readability. Methods: Data were gathered from 68 Filipino teachers using simple random sampling and clustered sampling techniques. To analyze the data, frequency count and percentage, mean and standard deviation, and one–way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were utilized. Findings: Results revealed that science teachers were highly competent in developing SLMs across all six variables. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant difference in the competence in developing SLMs in terms of intellectual property compliance based on their highest educational attainment and in terms of the aspects of learning competencies, instructional design, and organization, and assessment based on their sex. Conclusions: Teachers' competence is essential in improving the quality of performance in the learning process. Keywords: new normal education, science education, self-learning modules, teacher’s competence.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202214

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the effect of diei efficacy on students' mathematical abilities. Methods: The research design used in this study is a meta-analysis by analyzing 16 studies published in journals indexed by SCOPUS with a sample of 73935 people in various countries. To support the accuracy of the analysis results, OpenMEE software is used. Findings: The results revealed that the combined effect size values generated using the random-effect model estimate were (g = 0.518; p < 0.001) with a standard error (SE = 0.031). This effect size belongs to the medium effect category. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded that self-efficacy has a positive and significant effect on students' mathematical abilities. Keywords: mathematics ability, self-efficacy, and meta-analysis.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i2.202205

Abstract

This study investigated the factors influencing the science teaching efficacy of Filipino science teachers. A correlational research design was employed to collect the data from 261 Filipino science teachers using adapted and validated research instrument, encoded and administered via web-based program. The results uncovered that student technology use, 21st century learning attitudes, and teacher leadership attitudes are not significant predictors of science teaching efficacy.  The teaching outcome expectancy beliefs, STEM instruction, and STEM career awareness, however, can significantly explain the variation in the science teaching efficacy of the respondents. This indicates that teacher actions in science classroom, their pedagogical practices, and their awareness to STEM-fields should be considered in crafting capacity building program for science teachers. These factors are crucial in enhancing of teacher quality of science educators, thereby, uplifting the quality of science education in the country. Keywords: science teaching efficacy, stem career awareness, stem instruction, teaching outcome expectancy beliefs.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i1.202203

Abstract

The Effect of Inquiri-Based Mathematics Education and Cognitive Style on PGSD Students’ Academic Achievement. This study aimed to determine the effect of Inquiry-Based Mathematics Education on learning mathematics achievement of PGSD students on Undiksha on Mathematical Subjects with attention to student cognitive style. The study was designed in the form of quasi-experimental with 2×2 factorial design. The population in this study was the second semester students of PGSD Undiksha Academic Year 2015/2016, amounting to 263 students and distributed into groups. Data were collected through mathematics achievement tests which were further analyzed using by Tukey test at the 0.05 significance level. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the inquiry-based mathematics educationvery effectively applied to students who have the cognitive style of field – independent, and conventional learning effectively applied to students who have the cognitive style of field-dependent. Keywords: Inquiri-Based Mathematics Education, cognitive style, mathematic academic achievement DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v6.i2.201601

Abstract

Workplace Diversity and Faculty Performance in a Higher Education Institution. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the relationship between workplace diversity and faculty performance in Eastern Samar State University. Methods: The research employed a quantitative research design utilizing descriptive and correlational approaches. Findings: The results revealed a weak positive correlation between the level of workplace diversity and faculty performance, but the link between the two variables were not found to be significant. The findings of this study suggest that while workplace diversity may have an impact on employee performance, it may not be the only factor in determining performance. Conclusion: This research highlights the importance of organizations to focus on creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. While workplace diversity may have an impact on employee performance, it may not be the only factor in determining performance, therefore there is a need for further studies to explore the relationship between diversity and performance in different contexts. Keywords: diversity, performance, higher education, workplace,correlationDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202327

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze digital literacy skills on the level of curiosity and self-determination of students. This study uses a quantitative approach with statistical methods. The type of research used in this research is ex-post facto. The population in this study were students in Indonesia aged 17-22 years with a sample of 723 selected randomly. The instruments used are digital literacy measurement, the Curiosity measurement scale, and the self-determination measurement scale. Data analysis used statistical tests, namely the Mann-Whitney test and Simple Linear Regression. The main result of this research is that there are differences in digital literacy and self-determination in terms of gender, but in the aspect of Curiosity there is no difference. Furthermore, there is a positive effect of digital literacy on curiosity and self-determination. The digital literacy prediction model for Curiosity is Y=11.28+0.38X and the digital literacy prediction model for self-determination is Y=25.77+0.57X. Keywords: college student, curiosity, digital literacy, self-determination.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202224

Abstract

Mathematical Communication Ability of Deaf Students in Mathematics Learning in SMPLB-B PKK of Lampung Province. The obstacles encountered during the implementation process of mathematics learning in inclusive junior high school B of Family Welfare Guidance (SMPLB-B PKK) Lampung is the disruption of communication between students and teachers or vice versa. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of mathematical communication of deaf students in mathematics learning. Stages of this qualitative descriptive study included an observation, interviews, documentation and triangulation using a handycam recording device. The data used in this research was the data analysis by Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that the students feel more comfortable in receiving learning with lecture method of sign language- based, oral method (speech), and writing, but an understanding of concepts and mathematical ability of deaf students is still relatively low. Keywords: mathematical communication, signaling system, the deaf DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v6.i1.201601
