Abstract

Correlation Between Self-Efficacy and Motivation of English Teachers, Towards Students’ Achievement in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Objectives: This study was a correlational study that aimed to find out the correlations among three variables namely teacher self-efficacy, teacher motivation, and students’ achievement. Methods: The teacher self-efficacy scale (TSES) and English teacher motivation scale (ETMS) were distributed to 70 English teachers of junior high schools in Yogyakarta, and students’ average scores were collected as the students’ achievement. Findings: This research showed there were a significant correlation and contribution between teacher self efficacy and teacher’s motivation to students’ achievement. Conclusion: The higher the teacher’s self-efficacy, the higher the teacher’s motivation and the better the students’ achievement. Therefore, increasing teacher self-efficacy is very crucial because it relates to many educational outcomes such as teacher motivation and students’ achievement. Keywords: teacher self-efficacy, motivation, students’ achievement DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v11.i1.202107

Abstract

Exploring Perceptions and Experiences: Integrating AI in English Language Teaching from the Perspectives of Learners and Educators. Purpose: This study aims to explore learners’ and faculty members’ perceptions of the enactment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in English Language Teaching (ELT) based on the Community of Inquiry (CoI) Framework; in particular, intending to investigate the perceived benefits, challenges, and pedagogical implications of artificial intelligence adoption in the Indonesian education landscape. Methods: Using a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design, the study commenced with quantitative data collection through questionnaires issued to learners and educators. The next phase involved qualitative data collection through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions, which provided greater depth of insight into participants’ experiences and attitudes. Findings: In this sense, it is significant that the positive impact of artificial intelligence on ELT was reported above. Educators also acknowledged the role of AI in enhancing traditional practices and facilitating classrooms that are more dynamic and student-centered. Nonetheless, there are concerns about privacy, data security, and whether AI-driven tools are culturally nuanced enough for language instruction. Conclusion: Such fears underscore the need for contextually appropriate implementation guidelines that adapt AI tools to align with pedagogy norms and moral codes found in local education systems. This work thus contributes to the growing literature on the implementation of AI technology in language education by providing empirical evidence of effective integration of this technology, particularly in Indonesia. The outcomes will serve not solely to inform educators and policymakers on the best practices surrounding AI integration throughout ELT but also to affirm the addressing of protection and cultural acclimatization challenges. Overall, the research sets forth a roadmap for AI’s potential pedagogical role in shaping language instruction practice and policy. Keywords: artificial intelligence, community of inquiry, english language teaching, experiences, perceptions.

Abstract

Management Skills and Organizational Issues Toward Change Management Model: The Case of Rural Community Colleges in the Philippines. Objectives: The purpose of the research was to investigate the management abilities of administrators, teachers, and non-teaching personnel, as well as organizational concerns to propose recommendations to solve this issues. Methods: This study used sequential explanatory mixed methods research with two phases of data gathering and analysis. It collects and analyzes quantitative data through survey questions before gathering qualitative data through focus group discussions (FDG). Findings: Following the four organizational cultures - clan, market, adhocracy, and hierarchy - the diverse management abilities of administrators, teachers, and non-teaching staff are described by the study's findings. In addition, the fundamental difficulties of rural community colleges in terms of organizational performance and adaptation, organizational weakness, and internal conflict are discussed. The research also produces the REACT model for change management based on its results. Conclusion: Community colleges in rural areas must adopt change management that addresses their organizational challenges and is based on their management skills. Furthermore, additional funding, assistance programs, and manual development for academics and staff are proposed. Keywords: community colleges, change management, organizational culture, philippine higher education.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202336

Abstract

Implementation of High Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) Based on Problem Based Learning on Science Literacy Ability. Objectives: Knowing and analyzing scientific literacy skills by applying the HOTS-oriented Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. Methods: The type of research in this research is experimental research. The object of research is the implementation of HOTS based on Problem Based Learning (X) on literacy skills (Y). The research subjects were fourth grade students of SD Negeri 5 Metro Pusat. The research design used is a pre-experimental design and uses one form of design, namely the one group pretest-posttest design. This design uses one group, as an illustration, the experimental group. The experimental group is the class that gets treatment in the form to the application of HOTS based on Problem-Based Learning. The HOTS indicators used in this study are identify scientific issues (problems); explain scientific phenomena; using scientific evidence Findings: Based on the results of the data analysis, the pretest score for the scientific literacy ability of students achieved by the experimental class was 9.25 and the posttest score was 11.90. Conclusion: The results of the research that have been carried out show that the application of high order thinking skills (HOTS) based on problem based learning (PBL) to improve scientific literacy skills has the impact of increasing n-gain by 0.21 in the low category. In the analysis of the average n-gain score on the highest scientific literacy ability indicator, namely the use of scientific evidence. Keywords: high order thinking skills (hots), problem based learning, science literacy.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v12.i3.202236

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how pre-service teachers (PSTs) employ classroom language for Opening, Running, and Closing the Lesson in the classroom. A qualitative method was applied where the data were gathered through questionnaire sheets and an observation checklist. Thirty students in the second year of the English Education Study Program in Surabaya, Indonesia, participated in this study. The findings reveal that PSTs have applied classroom languages appropriately and successfully for eight components of basic teaching skills. Nevertheless, three components that do not vary are the language expressions attributed to opening the lesson for checking attendance, varying stimuli for setting and cleaning up teaching media, and organizing the small group discussion. The findings can be valuable input for the teacher of an education program to be more concerned with the teacher candidates' language variations to prepare them for successful classroom interactions. Keywords: classroom language, pre-service teachers, classroom interactions.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i2.202304

Abstract

Digital Flipbook-Based Mathematics Teaching Materials using RME Approach to Improve Mathematical Problem-Solving Ability. This research aims to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of flipbook-based statistics teaching materials using realistic mathematics education (RME) approach in improving the mathematical problem-solving abilities of class XI AKL students at SMK N 1 Karanganyar. This research and development uses a 4D model. The assessment of the development of teaching materials is based on the validity and practicality aspects, while the assessment of mathematical problem-solving abilities is based on the effectiveness aspect. Data were collected through material expert and media expert validation sheets for validity aspects, teacher and student response questionnaires for practical elements, and experimental class and control class student answer sheets for effectiveness aspects. Material and media experts assessed the validity aspect, and experimental class students and teachers evaluated the practicality aspect. The effectiveness aspect was by looking at the average post-test score for the experimental and control classes via the t-test. The assessment results show that the teaching materials developed are valid, practical, and effective.  Keywords: teaching materials, realistic mathematics education, research and developmentDOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v13.i3.202342
