Abstract

This study explores the role of cultural arts education in character development among elementary school students, specifically in the context of MIN 3 Kota Palangka Raya. The primary aim of this research is to examine how arts education fosters not only artistic skills but also essential character values such as empathy, tolerance, creativity, independence, and social responsibility. Through qualitative research, involving in-depth interviews with teachers, this study highlights the ways in which cultural arts education can contribute to the formation of positive student character. The findings suggest that the integration of character education within arts education enables students to better appreciate diversity, engage in cooperative work, and express themselves creatively. Additionally, arts education provides a safe space for students to overcome self-doubt and fear of failure, increasing their confidence and sense of achievement. By focusing on both the cognitive and emotional aspects of learning, cultural arts education proves to be a powerful tool in shaping well-rounded individuals. Furthermore, it encourages the development of critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of local cultural heritage. This research underscores the importance of integrating character education within arts curricula, as it not only enhances students' artistic competencies but also supports their social and emotional development. Ultimately, the study concludes that cultural arts education plays a pivotal role in nurturing students into responsible, empathetic, and creative individuals, prepared to contribute positively to society.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial factor in the success of science learning at the elementary school level, which requires active engagement, curiosity, and persistence from students. However, science learning in elementary schools often faces the problem of low student motivation due to conventional, teacher-centered instructional approaches with limited interaction. This study aimed to improve the learning motivation of fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 0607 Pagaran Batu through the implementation of the Dragon Ball learning model. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were all fourth-grade students. Data on students’ learning motivation were collected through observation and questionnaires based on motivation indicators. The findings indicate a substantial improvement in students’ learning motivation across cycles. In the pre-cycle stage, students’ motivation was predominantly categorized as low, with an average score of 48%. Following the implementation of the Dragon Ball model, motivation increased to 72% in Cycle I and further improved to 82% in Cycle II, exceeding the minimum success criterion of 75%. The results suggest that the Dragon Ball learning model effectively promotes active engagement, cooperative interaction, and intrinsic motivation in elementary science learning. This study contributes to cooperative learning literature by demonstrating the pedagogical value of game-based collaborative strategies in fostering student motivation at the primary education level.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning process and students’ learning outcomes through the implementation of the Montessori method assisted by Sandpaper Letters media among first-grade students at Elementary School Negeri 1007 Tanjung Baringin. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach with a two-cycle design consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research participants were 25 first-grade students. Data were collected through observation, learning outcome tests, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive quantitative techniques for test results and descriptive qualitative analysis for observational data. The findings indicate changes in students’ learning outcomes from the pre-cycle to Cycle II following the implementation of the Montessori method assisted by Sandpaper Letters. These changes are associated with increased student engagement in learning activities through concrete and multisensory experiences that align with the developmental characteristics of lower-grade elementary students. This study provides empirical evidence that the Montessori method assisted by Sandpaper Letters media, within a CAR framework, can serve as an approach to improving learning practices in lower elementary classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students’ politeness culture in peer interactions among fifth-grade students at Elementary School Negeri 1501 Hurung Jilok and to identify the constraints encountered in its practice. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving 22 fifth-grade students as research participants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. Data credibility was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that students’ politeness culture in peer interactions is manifested in various forms of social behavior, including giving and receiving advice, helping peers, forgiving after conflicts, and sharing feelings with close friends. In addition, interactions characterized by teasing, mocking, the use of harsh language, and uncontrolled emotional expressions were also observed in certain situations. These findings suggest that politeness practices in peer interactions are contextual and shaped by the dynamics of peer relationships. The constraints identified in this study include differences in interpreting social behavior, limited observation time, and subjectivity in assessment. This study provides an empirical description of students politeness culture in peer interactions as part of the social dynamics within the elementary school environment.

Based on the results of the research carried out by the researcher, it can be concluded that: (1) Students' writing skills before using the outing class and hypnoteaching methods in class IV of SD Negeri 0805 Tanjung Baru were still low, namely that out of 30 students in that class only 3 people (10%) were categorized as good, 20 people (66.67%) were in the poor category and 7 people (23.33%) were in the very bad category. And students' writing abilities after using the outing class and hypnoteaching methods in class IV of SD Negeri 0805 Tanjung Baru increased every cycle. This can be seen in the first cycle, there has been an increase but not yet the maximum. Of the 30 students in the class, the scores obtained by only 2 students (6.67%) were in the very good category, 10 people (33.33%) were in the good category, 14 people were in the very good category. (46.67%) in the poor category and 4 people (13.33%) in the very bad category. And in cycle II, of the 30 students, 9 people (30%) were in the very good category, 17 people (56.67%) were in the good category, and 4 people (13.33%) were in the poor category. By applying the outing class and hypnoteaching methods, students have a wider range of objects to observe than in the classroom, and these two methods can encourage and stimulate the expression of students' ideas both orally and in writing. Based on these learning results, the outing class and hypnoteaching methods can improve the writing skills of class IV students at SD Negeri 0805 Tanjung Baru. (2) The results of observations of students' writing abilities in the pre-cycle were 58.66% in the poor category. In the first cycle, it can be seen that the students' writing ability was 67.83% in the poor category. Meanwhile, the results of observation in cycle II of students' writing ability were 81.16% in the good category. The results of data analysis show that through the application of outing class and hypnoteaching methods, students' writing skills can be improved. The outing class and hypnoteaching methods require students to have a wider range of objects to observe than in the classroom, and these two methods can encourage and stimulate the expression of students' ideas both orally and in writing.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial factor in determining the effectiveness of the learning process in primary education. However, low student learning motivation remains a common issue in classroom practice. One strategy that teachers can employ to enhance students’ learning motivation is the provision of rewards as a form of positive reinforcement. This study aims to examine the effect of reward provision on the learning motivation of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1104 Sipagabu. This research employed a quantitative approach with a simple correlational design. The participants consisted of all fifth-grade students, totaling 31 students. Data were collected using reward and learning motivation questionnaires and analyzed through simple linear regression, t-test, and coefficient of determination analysis. Based on the results of the t test, it was obtained that t count = 1.95 with a significance level of 0.05 with degrees of freedom df (n-2) = 31-2 = 29, so that t table = 1.699 was obtained. The calculation results obtained t count > t table, namely 1.95 > 1.699. From the test criteria above, H0 is rejected or Ha is accepted, meaning that there is a significant influence on the provision of rewards on the learning motivation of class V students of SD Negeri 1104 Sipagabu, Aek Nabara Barumun District, Padang Lawas Regency. Then in the determination test the R square value is 0.7568 or 75.68%, meaning that giving rewards can contribute to increasing student learning motivation and the rest is explained by other variables of 24.32%.
