Abstract

Puberty in girls is indicated by a menstruation. Each adolescent girls have a different experience of their periods. Some girls get period without any complaints, but some of them accompanied with dysmenorrhea which resulted in a sense of discomfort in the form of pain that can interfere their daily activities. According to AHCPR (Agency for Health Care Policy and Research), pain management that can be performed by nurses are nonpharmacological therapy, one of which is cutaneous stimulation, Slow-Stroke Back Massage. This study aimed to investigate the direct effect of cutaneous stimulus: Slow-Stroke Back Massage on primary dysmenorrhea pain scale. Design for this reasearc is a quasi experiment in one group (one group pre test- post test design). Subjects in this study were 12 female nursing students of Stikes Amanah Padang who have met criteria of the study. Subjects had been taught about technique of slow-stroke back message, and practice during their period when dysmenorrhea felt for 1 week. Previously, pain experience during menstruation assessed using a scale Numerical Rating Scales (NRS). Data were analyzed using paired t-test. This study showed that more than half of female students (75%) were experienced a moderate level of dysmenorrhea pain with pain scale was 5.67 ± 1.56 before being given cutaneous stimulus slow-stroke back massage (pretest). After given the slowstroke back message (posttest), more than half (58.2%) experienced a mild level of pain dysmenorrhea with pain scale was 4 ± 2.09. The cutaneous stimulus slow-stroke back message can reduce dysmenorrhea pain scale of nursing students in STIKes Amanah Padang.

Abstract

Nursing care documentation is a record and report in nursing setting that is useful for patients, nurse and medical team in providing services on communication accurately and completely in writing as nurse’s responsibility. An effective documentation could ensure the continuity of service, saving time and minimizing the risk of error. The implementation of nursing documentation is one way to measure , determine, monitor and conclude a nursing care service in a hospital. The implementation of nursing documentation in Pariaman Public Hospital shows are still low (49.5%) than their own limit 65%, while, according to the Ministry of Health, 80% as the limit. Nurse’s performance in the nursing care implementation was influenced by organizational factors (Leadership of head nurse, remuneration, supervision and coaching). The purpose of this study was to find out whether organizational factors related to nurses' performance in the implementation of nursing care in hospitals Pariaman. This study used cross sectional design. Population and sample in this study were 89 nurses in hospitals Pariaman, with simple random sampling. Instrument used questionnaire. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between leadership (p = 0.000), rewards (p = 0.005), supervision (p = 0.000) and coaching (p = 0.003). This study recommended to the head of Pariaman Public Hospital to improve supervision in each room, leadership, rewards and guidance on the implementation of nursing care to nurses.

Abstract

Complementary alternative medicine therapy is a medical practice group and health which is considered as part of conventional treatment. Many studies indicate the frequent use of complementary alternative therapy by patients affected by chronic illness. It is used by neurologic disorder patients like stroke, compared with non neurologic disorder like hypnosis, yoga, herbal therapy, and acupunture. In their service to stroke patients, nurses play their role in giving information and education concerning complementary alternative therapy. Indonesian nurses are beginning to use this method in their practices so that many of them participate in training about it. The objective of the research was to explore nurses’ experience in applying complementary alternative medicine in stroke patients in West Sumatera. The research used descriptive phenomenological approach with 14 nurses. The data werw gathered by conducting in-depth interviews, guided interview, and filed records and analyzed by using Collaizzimethode (1978) through seven stages. The study found there were seven themes as follows: increase capability take care of patients, assist cope patient complaint, nurse give information about therapy alternative to patients, nurses give therapy as standard, add finances and relations, feel happiness and satisfaction, and barrier applying alternative therapy. The themes in in this research were new themes in qualitative research related to nurses’ experience in applying complementary alternative therapy in stroke patients.

Abstract

Adolescent with chronic illness such as thalassemia can increase the risk of behavioral changes. The purpose of this study is to identify the risk of behavioral changes in adolescents with thalassemia such as anxiety, social problem and attention deficits. This study used cross sectional. Respondent consist of 43 adolescent (12-18 years old) and their parents to filled questionnaire about the related factors, anxiety, social problem, and attention deficits in thalassemia. The results shown that male adolescent have a risk to experience anxiety problem (OR 2,5), social problem (OR 1,264), and attention deficits (OR 1,185). Adolescents with Jawa and the other ethnic have a risk to experience anxiety problem (OR 0,001), social problem (0,001 and 0,365), and attention deficits (1,338 and 0,501). Another factor such as multitranfusion more than 5 years have a risk to experience anxiety problem (OR 0,001), low parent’s support with social problem (0,042), and low or middle of mother education increase attention deficits risk until 3,763 and 1,338. Nurses responsible to solve behavioral problem with current nursing intervention to prevent low quality of live in adult with thalassemia

Abstract

Caring for mental patients can be done by families and health professionals. The family is the closest to patients with mental disorders, referred as caregiver. Caregiver always give support for patient care. Caring for patients with mental disorders will make caregivers vulnerable to emotional problems such as anxiety, depression and worries. The purpose of this study was to determine the emotional distress experienced by female caregiver and the characteristics and its relationship with mental patients. Design of this research is analytic survey with purposive sampling technique. The total sample of 86 respondents, data were collected using questionnaires. The results of the data obtained and tested using correlation analysis. The result is women caregivers for experiencing emotional distress is 7.73 (77.3%), and there is a relationship between the family situation (caregiver relationship and supervision) to emotional distress, and there is no relationship between the characteristics of caregivers and the characteristics of mental disorder patients with emotional distress. Advised the caregiver to seek information and to improve the ability to solve problems.

Abstract

Generally, the patients will undergo the surgery will feel stress, both physical and psychological stress (anxiety). It is very dangerous because of the high heart rate and blood pressure will aggravate cardiovascular system. This study aimed to determine "The Decrease Of The Physical and Psychosocial Stress For Pre Onclogy Surgery Patients" at one hospital in Padang. The study used "Quasi-experimental pre-post test without control group" design with the intervention of meditation therapy. These samples included 44 people.Sampling bThese samples included 44 people.The sampling used by way purpusive sampling. The testing differences in average decline of physical and psychosocial stress in the intervention group and the control group is T test. The results showed an average decline of physical and psychosocial stress after meditation more in the intervention group compared with the control group. The conclusion significantly meditation therapy can reduce physical and psychosocial stress in patients withpreoperative oncology surgical. It needs to be applied as a therapy nursing meditation therapy in treating preoperative patients at least once a day for 30 minutes.

Abstract

Primary hypertension if not controlled properly at home will develop into secondary hypertension which may cause damage to the target organ. Primary hypertension is often called the "Silent Killer" because it has no early symptoms, patients often do not realize it and did not check into the health service thus increasing the incidence of hypertension, in general, increased prevalence of primary hypertension in West Sumatra province in which the majority of tribes Minang community. This study aims to dig deeper primary hypertension patients experience Minang tribe undergoing treatment at home. This type of research is descriptive phenomenology. The method used in this study using Colaizzi consisting of 7 steps. The number of participants in this study were 15 participants. Results of this study discusses the primary hypertension patients experience Minang tribe who undergo treatment at home. This study revealed six themes, namely; (1) Knowledge and understanding of hypertension, (2) Habit lived, the daily routine in the control of blood pressure at home, (3) feelings and beliefs on health, (4) barriers in controlling blood pressure at home, (5) external support in the control of blood pressure at home, and (6) reliance on the use of alternative therapies (naturally). Suggestions for patients with primary hypertension walking is a great exercise. This can be done each day, special training is not important, the important thing is regular exercise, regular physical activity can lower blood pressure by 5 to 10 mmHg.

Abstract

Hospital as a health care facility can be a dangerous place and a high risk to safety. Nursing personel who work continuously provide nursing care in hospital continuously for 24 hours every day at risk of illness and accidents. This study aims to identify the characteristics of the relationship of nurses with nurses work safety behavior. This study was a descriptive cross sectional approach. The results showed no association between nurse characteristics include age, gender, education, employment, and training with the nurses work safety behavior. The hospital is expected to provide wider opportunities for nurses to continue their education to a higher level, and organizes regular socialization and training related to safety of nurses in improving the safety behavior of nurses.

Abstract

Breast cancer cause various psychological symptoms as a result of changes in body shape, uncertainty about the future, and the impact of recurrence of breast cancer treatment. As a result, many patients don’t adhere to treatment. Negative self-concept is a response that is maladaptive adjustment. According to WHO the incidence increased every year, 6.25 million people in 2002. The aim of research to describe the concept of self-breast cancer patients at the Clinic Surgical Hospital Dr M Djamil Padang 2013. This research is descriptive, at the Polyclinic Hospital Surgery Dr. M Djamil Padang. Population is all of breast cancer patients who visited the Polyclinic Surgery amounted to 234 people. Accidental sampling as many as 49 people. Data were collected in July 2013 using a questionnaire and analyzed by univariate. Results of the study the majority (57.1%) of respondents have a positive body image. Most (57.1%) of respondents have a negative self ideal. General (75.5%) of respondents have a negative self-esteem. Most (53.1%) of respondents have a negative self-identity and most (51%) of respondents have a negative self role. Surgery Clinic nurses are expected to be able to conduct assessments of physiological stressors, self-concept in patients with breast cancer by providing health education and motivate patients to seek treatment until complete. As well as the need for cognitive therapy given by a nurse specialist mental patients with breast cancer to improve their quality of life.

Abstract

Pain is a discomfort sensational that felt by hospitalized neonates. The study use case study design of four babies who hospitalized in perinatology unit in RSAB Harapan Kita and Cipto Mangunkusumo hospital. The purpose of this case study is to analyze the fulfill comfort of neonates with NNS and extremities massage based on Levine Conservation Model application. The results is decrease neonates pain score with PIPP (Premature Infant Pain Profile), decrease in oxygen saturation changes, and heart rate changes in infants with invasive procedures. Although the fourth baby, no changes in pain scores with massage intervention extremities. Application of Levine Conservation Model in infants acute pain support for energy conservation, structural integrity, personal integrity, and social integrity. The study of pain management for neonates need to always be developed for support neonatal growth and development optimally.
