Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused various problems for cancer patients. Complaints related to changes in the medication process to the high risk of contracting COVID-19. This qualitative literature study aims to find out what the experiences of cancer patients are like during the COVID-19 pandemic. Articles were searched through Sciencedirect, Sage, Pubmed, and Scopus databases. Keywords using the PCC approach (Population (or participants)/Concept/Context) namely population "patient with cancer OR cancer patient"; concept "experience AND qualitative study" and context "COVID-19 pandemic". The methodological quality of the article findings used assessment tools for Qualitative Research from the Joanna Briggs Institute. A total of 10 articles were analyzed. The COVID-19 pandemic provides cancer patients with experiences in decision making and undergoing therapy and has a positive and negative impact on cancer patients and caregivers. During the pandemic, cancer patients have many considerations related to information, family involvement, and treatment decisions during the pandemic. The anxiety experienced is a special challenge felt by cancer patients and caregivers during a pandemic. It is hoped that care services are aware of this situation, reduce the worries of cancer patients and treatment can still run well during a pandemic.

Abstract

Genetic factors play an essential role in causing breast cancer, especially in children who have mothers with breast cancer. Such children possess a two times greater chance of suffering breast cancer. Rarely did studies use qualitative methods to explore the experience of children from mothers diagnosed with cancer in cancer awareness and prevention. Therefore, this research used qualitative research by means of a phenomenological approach. Interviews were conducted for 15 days by means of a purposive sampling data collection technique. Data were taken from in-depth interviews with women at risk of breast cancer, whose mothers were diagnosed with breast cancer. At the end of data collection, data saturation occurred for the 10th participant. After the data was analyzed using the Collaizi technique, it was extracted, then it was classified into 3 themes as follows: 1) Lack of knowledge in recognizing signs and symptoms of breast cancer, 2) The positive role of husband's support, 3) Anxiety in early detection of breast cancer. This research emphasizes the importance of a woman who is at risk of breast cancer from her mother getting counselling and health education about cancer awareness by reflecting on her mother diagnosed with breast cancer. It is proved that educating the husband probably affects the prevention of breast cancer.

Abstract

Increasing awareness of breast cancer risk requires knowledge to identify risk factors, symptoms, attitudes, and behaviors for conducting breast screening. However, the facts showed that most female students from non-medical university students had not had adequate awareness of breast cancer prevention. This study aimed to investigate breast cancer awareness among female non-medical university students. This study used quantitative design with cross-sectional design. A sampling technique used a non-probability sampling technique which conducted to 370 non-medical students. A modified Breast Cancers Awareness Scale (BCAS-1) questionnaire was used to measure level awareness of students regarding risk factors of breast cancer. The results showed that most respondents were 19 years old (51.4%) and most respondents (69.2%) have a moderate level of awareness. The level of awareness has five domains, all of respondents which are mostly moderate: knowledge about risk factors (72.4%); signs of breast cancer (54.6%); attitudes toward breast cancer prevention (71.1%); barriers to screening (70.5%), and behaviours related to breast cancer awareness (66.5%). This study concluded that non-medical students had moderate knowledge, so it is recommended a health promotion and special training to perform breast self-examination regularly for university students, especially non-medical students.

Abstract

As the elderly undergo physiological alterations during the aging process and are exposed to environmental influences that heighten their vulnerability to diseases, understanding the role of family support in mitigating health challenges, particularly hypertension, becomes paramount. Our research employed a correlational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach to elucidate this relationship. Utilizing purposive sampling, we meticulously selected a cohort of 62 elderly individuals as our study participants. Data acquisition entailed the utilization of a comprehensive questionnaire comprising 25 statement items. Additionally, guided interviews, grounded in the questionnaire, were conducted. The rigorous statistical analysis was executed using the chi-square formula, applying a 95% confidence interval and an alpha (α) level of 0.05. The outcomes of this meticulous analysis yielded a compelling revelation—a statistically significant association between family support and the efficacy of hypertension control among the elderly (P value = 0.003, P value ≤ α). This empirical evidence underscores the pivotal role of family support in the management of hypertension among the elderly demographic. Consequently, we advocate for heightened attention and augmented support from families, underlining the importance of their involvement in the hypertension control efforts for the elderly. Such support can serve as a critical safeguard against the onset of complications stemming from hypertension within the elderly population. In summary, this study accentuates the significance of family support as a mitigating factor in the management of hypertension among the elderly, ultimately contributing to the avoidance of hypertension-related complications in this vulnerable demographic.

Abstract

Stroke remains a prominent cause of disability and high mortality rates, particularly within Indonesia. Timely intervention during the critical phases of a stroke can mitigate disabilities and fatalities. Health education stands as a pivotal strategy for implementing health promotion and disease prevention initiatives. This study seeks to evaluate the efficacy of employing the flipbook F-A-S-T method as an educational tool to enhance early stroke detection utilizing the F-A-S-T media in a prehospital context. Utilizing a quantitative approach and a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pre-post test design, this research applies purposive sampling for participant selection. Initial knowledge assessments yielded a mean pretest score of 72.88±2.818. Following the intervention, the mean posttest score increased to 82.24±1.640. Statistical analysis indicated a p-value of 0.000, signifying a significant difference in knowledge levels before and after the educational intervention. The study findings strongly suggest that the implementation of flipbook F-A-S-T methods as an educational medium substantially enhances knowledge regarding the early detection of stroke utilizing the F-A-S-T method in a prehospital setting. This underscores the potential of such educational tools in improving public awareness and preparedness in the context of stroke, ultimately contributing to more favorable outcomes and reduced stroke-related disability and mortality rates.

Abstract

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle is important for farmers, as it significantly influences their long-term well-being. Unfortunately, a considerable number of farmers engage in risky health practices, primarily due to their limited health literacy. This research delves into the intricate connection between health literacy and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among farmers residing in Tenggarang Urban Village, Bondowoso Regency. Our study employed a cross-sectional design, encompassing a sample of 90 farmers chosen through cluster random sampling. To assess health literacy, we employed the Health Literacy Short-Form Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-SQ10-IDN), designed for use in Indonesia. Additionally, we measured the extent of a healthy lifestyle using the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II). For statistical analysis, we utilized Kendall’s Tau-b correlation test, with a significance level set at α < 0.05. Our findings unveiled that an impressive 78.9% of respondents exhibited commendable health literacy levels, with 60% demonstrating a strong dedication to leading a healthy lifestyle. Crucially, we identified a statistically significant and positive correlation between health literacy and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle among farmers (p value = 0.000 and r = 0.393). To further enrich this area of study, future research could delve deeper into the factors that influence health literacy and the facilitators encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices among farmers. Consequently, stakeholders are encouraged to formulate educational strategies aimed at bolstering health literacy within the farming community, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing the adoption of healthy lifestyles to effectively enhance farmer well-being.

Abstract

Stunting remains a persistent nutritional challenge in Indonesia, posing a substantial threat to child growth and survival, typically manifesting in the second year of life. Its primary antecedent is inadequate prenatal protein intake, resulting in shortened birth length and increased susceptibility to stunting. This study aimed to elucidate the relationship between birth length and stunting among toddlers within Tasikmadu Village, employing a retrospective cohort design with a total sample size of 128 individuals selected through Total Sampling. The analysis of the collected data yielded a noteworthy result, with a calculated p-value exceeding 0.570. This outcome signifies the absence of a statistically significant correlation between birth length and the incidence of stunting among the study participants in Tasikmadu Village. Instead, the investigation highlights the prominence of postnatal factors as significant determinants of stunting prevalence. These factors include the untimely introduction of complementary foods alongside breastfeeding (MP-ASI), irregular MP-ASI feeding schedules, a predominantly carbohydrate-based MP-ASI menu, erratic breastfeeding timings, and premature discontinuation of exclusive breastfeeding. In summary, this study discerns a conspicuous dissociation between birth length and stunting occurrence in Tasikmadu Village. The implication is that the roots of stunting lie predominantly in postnatal practices, emphasizing the critical role of addressing issues such as inappropriate MP-ASI practices and breastfeeding patterns to effectively combat the prevalence of stunting among toddlers. These findings contribute to a more nuanced understanding of the multifaceted nature of stunting in this context, guiding future interventions and public health initiatives aimed at its mitigation.
