Abstract

Nurses at public health centers play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of disasters, but their preparedness for handling emergency situations is often not optimal. In Padang City, a study was conducted to assess the level of preparedness among nurses in disaster management. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 138 nurses working in 24 public health centers through a stratified random sampling method. The results showed that 58% of the nurses had a high level of preparedness. More specifically, 58% had good knowledge of disaster management, 74.6% displayed a positive attitude, and 68.8% practiced good disaster management techniques. These findings indicate that public health center nurses in Padang City are generally well-prepared in terms of knowledge, attitude, and practice. However, further improvement is still needed. Increasing the number of trained nurses and providing regular disaster management training are recommended to enhance preparedness in disaster response.

Abstract

Survivors are vulnerable to mental health problems. Mental health problems in COVID-19 survivors that can occur are anxiety, fear, disappointment, and sadness. Social support can be one of the efforts that can be made. This research aims to analyze the correlation of social support with the resilience of COVID-19 survivors in the working area of the Kaliwates Jember Health Center. This research uses a quantitative method with an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The number of samples in this research was 176 COVID-19 survivors and were selected using the simple random sampling technique. Data were obtained using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-25) questionnaires. The results showed that the respondents had high social support (94.3%) and moderate resilience (64.2%). Data analysis using the Spearman’s-rank correlation test showed a moderately positive relationship between social support and resilience in COVID-19 survivors in the work area of the Kaliwates Jember Health Center (p = 0.000 and r = 0.574). The higher the social support, the higher the resilience of COVID-19 survivors. Providing holistic nursing care with social support is essential to improve or maintain good resilience in COVID-19 survivors.

Comprehensive health care service is right for people living with HIV/AIDS. It is important to know and dig deeply into the needs of healthcare services among people living with HIV as a vulnerable group. Exploration of healthcare provider services received by people living with HIV can provide a thick description related to the process of care and treatment. In-depth interviews were conducted with nine people living with HIV who utilize healthcare services in Jakarta. In this phenomenological qualitative study, researchers have used the data analysis stage according to Stevick-Colaizzi. This study identifies the essence of the healthcare received by people living with HIV as healthcare services information, easy access to healthcare services, services before the test, services after the test, getting ARVs, and treatment of health complaints. The findings recommend that healthcare providers further optimize their services to give a real impact in the prevention of the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

The results of univariate analysis showed that the average age of menarche was 12 years, the average BMI was 20.50, good nutritional status was 66.7%, students did not experience menstrual disorders by 84.4% and the academic stress level of students was 80.9%. The results of the bivariate analysis showed a correlation coefficient of 0.635, with a p-value of 0.001 which means the higher the menstrual disorder, the higher the academic stress on students. These findings can be used to develop health promotion related to reproductive health in adolescent girls so as to reduce stress levels in students.

Abstract

Self-care management is crucial for preventing complications in individuals with diabetes mellitus, which is influenced by various factors, including disease perception and the duration of diabetes. This study aims to examine the relationship, direction, and strength of the association between disease perception, duration of illness, and self-care management in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 74 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (B-IPQ) and the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA-Revised). Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test. The findings showed that the average score for disease perception was 48.59, with an average illness duration of 5.00 years, and an average self-care score of 48.58. A significant positive correlation was found between disease perception and self-care management (p-value = 0.00), while no significant correlation was found between the duration of diabetes and self-care management (p-value = 0.132). These results suggest that enhancing patients' perception of their disease may improve self-care management. It is recommended that more intensive and targeted educational interventions be implemented to improve patients' positive perceptions and encourage more consistent self-care practices.

Abstract

Peer support programmes have been shown to have a substantial impact on overall HIV outreach efforts. Peer educators have played an essential part in the HIV response, despite a number of challenges and negative experiences throughout implementation. These adverse experiences are often ignored and poorly documented, leaving peer educators vulnerable. The aim of this study is to explore the negative experiences of peer educators in reaching out to men who have sex with men (MSM). This research used a qualitative phenomenological study design. This study involved thirty-six peer educators that work in several non-government organizations. Three focus group discussions were conducted in September 2023 to Desember 2023. The Stevick-Colaizzi-Keen data analytical method was used for data analysis. Five themes regarding the peer educators’ negative experiences whilst interacting with the MSM population were obtained from the data analysis. The themes were experiencing discriminatory conduct, abuse, humiliation, cancel the meeting, and incurred personal expenses. In order to accomplish HIV prevention through case finding and treatment milestones, peer educators are dedicated to working with a wide range of MSM groups. Peer educators may need to develop certain coping mechanisms to get through uncomfortable circumstances. In order to deal with unpleasant situations sensibly, it is vital to provide adequate support and protection recommendations, as well as having awareness of self-defence mechanisms.

Abstract

Low Birth Weight (LBW) infants are babies with a birth weight of less than 2,500 grams. The incidence rate of LBW in the world reaches 15% and every year it is estimated that 20 million babies are born with LBW. Basic Health Research Data in 2018 shows that the prevalence of infants with LBW in Indonesia is 6.2% and the cause of neonatal death due to LBW is 35.3%. Baby massage is one of the nursing interventions in LBW to overcome respiratory disorders and increase the baby's weight. This study aims to explain the case of applying baby massage with LBW. This research method is a case report on Mrs. W's baby who was treated in the NICU room of Pariaman Hospital. The report is carried out based on the stages of nursing care, namely assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation of nursing. Baby massage is given for 4 days in the morning every day on Mrs. W's baby. After massage therapy, the baby becomes more comfortable because the baby's blood circulation is smooth, the baby's breathing becomes optimal, and the baby's weight increases. This shows that baby massage provides benefits to babies, especially LBW. It is hoped that baby massage can be one of the independent actions for nurses or health workers in providing nursing care to babies with LBW.

The sample in this study was 100 elderly people aged 60-69 years at the UPTD Ledeng Health Center, Bandung City. This study was conducted for 3 weeks in April 2024. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. This research instrument used a social role questionnaire and the Geritatric Depression Scale (GDS15) questionnaire. Data analysis used bivariate analysis and Pearson correlation test. Most of the 54 respondents (54%) were in the poor social role category. Most respondents experienced mild depression, 58 people (58%). Further analysis of the Pearson correlation test obtained a significance value of 0.009 α (<0.05). This research shows that there is a relationship between social roles and levels of depression in the elderly. Based on the results of this study, the elderly can increase their social role and prevent depression levels by providing social support so that the elderly are involved in social activities with light responsibilities and implementing social intervention programs that focus on increasing their social involvement. These programs can include group activities, elderly communities, or community events specifically designed to strengthen social networks and support mental well-being.
