Abstract

AbstractThis research is a quasi experiment having purposes to know: (1) adaptive reasoning skill and its improvement description of the student taught by implementing PBL and cooperative learning in scientific approach; (2) comparison of adaptive reasoning skill and its improvement of the student taught by implementing PBM and cooperative learning in scientific approach. This research population is all student of X MIA SMAN 11 Makassar in odd semester 2016/2017. Researcher chooses two classes by using simple random sampling. The result of inferential statistical analysis are: (1) difference of adaptive reasoning skill between student who is taught by using PBL and cooperative learning in scientific approach is not significant; (2) there is no significant difference between adaptive reasoning skill improvement of student taught by using PBL and cooperative learning in scientific approach.Keywords: Adaptive reasoning, Cooperative learning, Problem based learning, Scientific approach.AbstrakPenelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui: (1) kemampuan penalaran adaptif dan deskripsi peningkatanya pada siswa yang diajarkan dengan menerapkan PBM dan pembelajaran kooperatif dalam pendekatan  saintifik; (2) perbandingan kemampuan penalaran adaptif  dan peningkatannya pada siswa yang diajarkan dengan menerapkan PBM dan pembelajaran kooperatif dalam pendekatan  saintifik. Populasi penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas X MIA SMAN 11 Makassar pada semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Peneliti memilih dua kelas menggunakan simple random sampling. Hasil dari analisis statistik inferensial adalah: (1) perbedaan kemampuan penalaran adaptif antara siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan PBM dan pembelajaran kooperatif  dalam pendekatan saintifik tidak signifikan; (2) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara peningkatan kemampuan penalaran adaptif siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan PBM dan pembelajaran kooperatif  dalam pendekatan saintifik.Kata kunci: Penalaran adaptif, Pembelajaran kooperatif, Pembelajaran berbasis masalah,  Pendekatan saintifik

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine undergraduates' understanding of the central tendency measure from a decision-making perspective. The research adopted a qualitative method by employing an interview and test to obtain the data.  It enrolled 93 undergraduate students who had previously studied basic statistics and applied statistics. Four students were selected for interviews out of the 93 participants. The analysis model used included data condensation, data visualization, and conclusion and verification. A large number of students were unable to provide explanations for their decisions. The majority of students related the test with the necessity of calculating an average or selecting a more straightforward measure. None of the students was aware of the presence and effect of outliers in the data. The undergraduate students demonstrated a lack of awareness of the factors that could influence their decision-making. The students did not consider other variables. The majority of them were unaware of the benefits and drawbacks of using mean, median, and mode to describe data.

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a case study that explores the error in concept construction of undergraduate students’ with very negative mathematical identity. The construction was examined through the APOS theory. The student participating in the study was a student in the accounting department. Results showed that the student with very negative mathematical identity did not think much when choosing the most suitable measure of central tendency for a particular data. The student did not take into account the existence of outlier and mode, how the mean involves every data element, and whether the data distribution was normal or not. Abstrak: Penelitian ini merupakan studi kasus yang mengeksplor kesalahan konstruksi konsep mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis yang sangat negatif. Konstruksi konsep diteliti menggunakan kerangka APOS. Mahasiswa yang berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini merupakan mahasiswa pada jurusan akuntansi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis yang sangat rendah tidak berpikir banyak ketika memilih ukuran pemusatan yang sesuai untuk data yang diberikan. Subjek tidak mempertimbangkan eksistensi modus dan outlier, bagaimana mean melibatkan semua elemen data, dan apakah datanya berdistribusi normal atau tidak.

Abstract

During the pandemic of COVID-19, numerous obstacles arose in education, and some strategies were necessary to tackle them. This study adopted a qualitative approach to investigate teachers' difficulties in mathematics learning in rural and urban areas and how they solved them. The findings revealed that motivation, productivity, and activityare the main problems of the teachers. Accessibility also poses a difficulty for teachers in rural areas. Several strategies were implemented to solve these obstacles, including using technology, maintaining communication with families, providing flexibility, reducing the number of tasks and quizzes, and peer teaching.

Abstract

The measure of spread is one of the concepts in Statistics that students find complicated. We have to use a specific formula or concept for a specific situation or contextual problem. As a result, people or students sometimes made mistakes or errors in solving statistics problems. Therefore, research to investigate errors made in solving problems involving a measure of spread is necessary. This study aims to describe students' errors in solving problems related to the measure of dispersion. Researchers used a qualitative descriptive approach. We administered the test during the even semester from January to June in the year 2021. The participants were 80 undergraduate students who have completed or taken statistics courses. This test consists of 2 questions that are related to each other. Researchers used the three main steps to analyze the data which consist of data condensation, data display, and verifying and drawing the conclusion. We obtained the data related to students' errors from their test results. The results showed that more than 50% of students still make mistakes on every problem. The mistakes made by participants consisted of the use of formulas, miscalculations, the use of known data, the use of concepts, not giving conclusions, and inconsistencies.

Abstract

Many teachers in Indonesia teach students horizontal number lines rather than vertical number lines. However, there are students who use vertical number lines to solve contextual problems that have never been taught in schools. Therefore, this study aims to find out why students use vertical number lines to solve contextual problems. This research is a qualitative research where data is collected by tests and interviews. The results showed that students used vertical number lines based on the context of the given questions.

Abstract

Learning mathematics during the pandemic has many challenges such as internet constraints, be it network quality or limited internet quota owned by students or students. This research uses a sequential explanatory design to investigate the effectiveness of the combined use of WhatApp (WA) and Google Classroom (GC) in learning mathematics, especially in the Elementary Algebra course. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling and the selected class was class A which is one of the classes from one of the universities in South Sulawesi. Related to qualitative data, surveys and interviews were conducted to find out how students respond to the implementation of the use of the two applications and why the use of the two applications is effective / ineffective in mathematics learning. The results showed that the mean of the class scores is 80.12 with a standard deviation of 1.85. Based on inferential analysis, combination of WA and GC in learning mathematics in the Elementary Algebra course was effective. In addition, most students gave positive responses. Based on students' perspectives, the ease of access, features of both applications and ease of use are the reasons for the success of mathematics learning using WA and GC.

Abstract

The development of the covid-19 vaccine and the impact of online learning enable the government in Indonesia to remove some restrictions caused by the pandemic and our situation now is called the new normal. In the sector of education, some schools already implemented PTMT (Pembelajaran Tatap Muka Terbatas) by fully implementing face-to-face learning with some restrictions recommended by the government. One of the learnings that most teachers used was direct instruction. This study employed a sequential explanatory design to investigate the implementation of direct instruction in mathematics classrooms during the new normal. Firstly, we measured the effectiveness of direct instruction. Secondly, we investigated the factors affecting the results of our measurement of learning effectiveness. Two classes of the eleventh grade in one of the high schools in Makassar were chosen as the sample of our study. The findings of our study imply that the implementation of direct instruction in the mathematics classroom is not effective during the new normal based on the mathematics test results of the students. However, students and teachers respond positively to the implementation of direct instruction in mathematics lessons during the new normal. Our interview results reveal several factors causing the ineffectiveness, which were lesson duration, the number of tasks, and the short deadline of tasks from other subjects. Thus, the students cannot focus and overlook mathematics because they shift their focus to other subjects.

Abstract

Identitas matematis merupakan salah satu aspek yang penting untuk dimiliki mahasiswa, baik itu mahasiswa di jurusan matematika maupun yang non-matematika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan identitas matematis yang dimiliki mahasiswa akuntansi. 59 mahasiswa terlibat sebagai partisipan dalam survei yang dilakukan untuk kategorisasi identitas matematis. Peneliti kemudian melakukan wawancara dengan dosen terkait 1 mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis positif dan 1 mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis negatif. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan menggunakan tiga tahapan utama yaitu kondensasi data, tampilan data, dan pengambilan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian kami menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis positif dan negatif memiliki perbedaan yang cukup signifikan. Perbedaan tersebut mulai pengetahuan, kemampuan, serta minat dan motivasi. Mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis positif memiliki prestasi matematika yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan mahasiswa dengan identitas negatif. Hal ini ditandai dengan frekuensi menjawab pertanyaan atau soal, nilai, dan tingkat kesulitan soal yang dapat dijawab. Selain itu, mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis positif lebih antusias dan termotivasi dalam mengikuti pembelajaran matematika dibandingkan mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis negatif yang sekadar hanya ingin menggugurkan kewajiban untuk mengikuti perkuliahan. Mahasiswa dengan identitas matematis positif cenderung lebih berinisatif dan mandiri.

Abstract

Porang merupakan salah satu tanaman yang dapat tumbuh dengan baik di bawah naungan tanaman kayu atau pepohonan. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa budidaya porang sangat cocok menggunakan sistem agroforestri. Namun, di Desa Garuntungan, budidaya porang yang diterapkan masih menggunakan Teknik konvensional sehingga dapat menyebabkan efek yang merugikan, seperti erosi tanah, degradasi tanah, degradasi lahan, kerentanan yang lebih tinggi terhadap hama atau penyakit tertentu, dan bahkan efek yang merugikan seperti risiko tinggi kehilangan hasil panen karena faktor-faktor seperti cuaca buruk. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan sosialisasi dan pelatihan untuk memperkenalkan budidaya porang berbasis agroforestri. Sosialisasi dan pelatihan ini juga dilaksanakan sebagai langkah awal untuk mewujudkan pertanian yang berkelanjutan. Pelaksanaan kegiatan sosialisasi dan pelatihan teknik budidaya porang berbasis agroforestri bisa dikatakan berhasil. Hal ini dapat terlihat dari pemaparan materi dari para narasumber yang sangat menarik dan mudah dipahami. Selain itu, keberhasilan dari kegiatan ini terlihat dari antusiasme yang tinggi dari warga Desa Garuntungan dalam menanggapi materi yang dipaparkan oleh narasumber.
