Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the types of student errors in solving addition and subtraction of integers in class VII C of SMP Negeri 6 Palu. This type of research is descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were three students of class VII C who had high, medium and low levels of mathematical ability. The results of this study indicate that subjects with high mathematical abilities make conceptual errors with an error indicator, namely not knowing the formula used. Subjects with mathematical abilities are making conceptual errors with an error indicator, namely not knowing the formula used. Technical errors with error indicators, namely making mistakes in arithmetic operations. Subjects with low mathematical abilities made conceptual errors with error indicators, namely not being able to apply the formula. Technical errors with error indicators, namely making mistakes in arithmetic operation, then the subject made a mistake in moving the numbers or arithmetic operations from one step to the next.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the creative thinking ability of students with high and moderate abilities in solving open ended quadratic equation problems in class XI MTsN 1 Palu City. The two students selected as research subjects consisted of a high-ability student and a medium-ability student. This type of research is qualitative research. The data collection techniques used are tests and interviews. The results showed that the subjects had high and medium abilities, (1) At the fluency stage, high and medium ability subjects met all indicators where students were able to solve the given problems with various ideas or solutions to do the problems, (2) At the flexibility stage, high-ability subjects had met all indicators where students could do in two ways, namely the first to do by factorization and the second to do by using the ABC formula, while moderate ability has not met the fluency indicator because it has not been able to do it in another way, (3) At the novelty stage, high-ability and medium subjects have not met the novelty indicator where students have not been able to create or do it in their own way. High-ability subjects meet 2 indicators so that the level of creative thinking of high-ability subjects is at level 3, namely the creative category. While the subject with moderate ability meets 1 indicator so that the level of creative thinking is at level 1, which is the less creative category.

Abstract

Analysis of the ability to solve problems using Polya's steps on linear programming material in terms of learning styles is a description of students' ability to solve problems using Polya's steps on linear programming materials which are reviewed based on students' learning styles. The learning styles used according to DePorter and Hernacki are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with the aim of knowing and describing students' ability to solve problems using Polya's steps in terms of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The subjects of this study were students of class XI MAS-PPM Nurul Falah Palu who were selected by one representative student each from the results of a learning style questionnaire that grouped students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. . The results of data analysis show that, (1) In understanding the problem, students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles show relevant understanding by gathering information contained in the questions and can identify problems from the questions with their knowledge of the "statement" and "question" sentences, although with a different writing style. The difference is seen in students with kinesthetic learning styles.. (2) In planning problem solving, subjects with visual and auditory learning styles can plan strategically well to achieve the goals to be achieved in a problem and can choose relevant information from the problem. While subjects with kinesthetic learning styles are quite good in planning problem solving but in developing strategies they are still not suitable to be able to solve problems properly. (3) In carrying out problem solving plans, subjects with visual learning styles are very good at executing, carrying out plans and are able to organize and integrate problems with relevant previous knowledge, as well as auditory subjects even with different writing styles. Meanwhile, subjects with kinesthetic learning styles cannot solve them properly because they are unable to integrate problems with previous knowledge. (4) In re-examining, subjects with visual and auditory learning styles carry out re-examinations because they can monitor, check or detect end results and unexpected events. Meanwhile, subjects with kinesthetic learning styles did not re-examine such as visual and auditory subjects because they were not sure about the problem solving they were doing.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the representation of students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities in solving quadratic function problems. The subjects of this study were three class XI students of SMKN 2 Palu in the even semester of the 2019/2020 school year. Three students selected as research subjects consisted of a student with high math ability, a student with moderate math ability, and a student with low math ability. Data representation of the three subjects was obtained through problem solving tests and unstructured interviews which were then analyzed qualitatively. The results of this study indicate that students with high mathematical abilities use a combination of verbal representations, visual representations and symbolic representations in solving a given quadratic function problem. While students with moderate math ability and students with low math abilities use verbal representations and symbolic representations in solving the quadratic function problem given. Although the two students use the same representation but in different ways, and students with moderate mathematical abilities use more symbolic representations, while students with low math abilities use more verbal representations.

The purpose of this research is to describe the application of discovery learning model to improve students' learning achievement in surface area material and prism volume in grade VIII A Kristen GPID junior high school, Palu. The type of research is class action research (PTK). The design of the research refers to the research design of Kemmis and Mc. Taggart which consists of four components, namely (1) planning; (2) action; (3) observation; and (4) reflection. This research conducted in two cycles. The subject of the study was a grade VIII student at GPID Palu, Christian Junior High School, with 16 students, consisting of 7 male students and 9 female students. The results of the study showed that the observation results of the activities of teachers in cycle I are obtaining the criteria of good success level, and have improved in cycle II, that is obtaining the criteria of excellent success level. The percentage of classical learning completion of cycle I is 67% and in cycle II is 81%. The results of this study showed that the application of discovery learning model can improve student learning achievement by following the phases of discovery learning model, namely: (1) stimulation or stimulation, in this phase the teacher gives problems about surface area and prism volume, (2) statement or problem identification (problem statement), in this phase the teacher asks students to hypothesize from the problem in the first phase, (3) data collection, in this phase the teacher invites students to collect information that used to solve problems, (4) data processing, in this phase the teacher asks students to fill out the LKS with their group friends and percentage in front of the class, (5) verification, in this phase the teacher asks students to do LKS 2 which is to prove the formula that has been obtained in a different way so as to obtain the same concept , and (6) draw conclusions and generalizations that are concluding the material studied.
