Abstract

This study aims to analyze the problem solving ability of students with extroverted and introverted personalities in solving arithmetic ranks and series problems in class VIII SMPN 2 Lembo using Polya's steps. This type of research is qualitative research. The subjects of this study were 4 students taken from 25 students in class VIII of SMPN 2 Lembo. The research subjects were one student with extroverted personality type for very high level (VKL), one student with extroverted personality type for low level (AGT), one student with introverted personality type for very high level (PJL), one student with introverted personality type for low level (JFCT). The results showed that the analysis of the problem solving ability of extroverted and introverted students in solving story problems of arithmetic rows and series, namely: 1) on the indicator of understanding the problem, very high ability extroverted VKL and introverted PJL students are able to explain and mention the information known and asked in the problem, but low ability extroverted AGT and introverted JFCT students need to read the problem several times to understand the problem, 2) indicators of making plans, very high ability extroverted VKL and introverted PJL students are able to make plans using the information they get, but low ability extroverted AGT and introverted JFCT students do not know the formula to be used in the story problem and in making plans cannot relate and complete between what is known and asked so that they cannot choose a strategy that suits the problem, 3) in the third indicator, very high ability students VKL extroverts and PJL introverts are able to carry out the solution plan appropriately and PJL introverts are very thorough in completing the solution plan, while low ability students AGT extroverts and JFCT introverts cannot solve the problems given appropriately. 4) at the stage of re-examining the answer, extrovert VKL, introvert PJL, and introvert JFCT re-examine the answer before collecting, but extrovert AGT students do not re-examine their answers before collecting.

Abstract

Analysis of the ability to solve problems using Polya's steps on linear programming material in terms of learning styles is a description of students' ability to solve problems using Polya's steps on linear programming materials which are reviewed based on students' learning styles. The learning styles used according to DePorter and Hernacki are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. This research is a descriptive qualitative research with the aim of knowing and describing students' ability to solve problems using Polya's steps in terms of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The subjects of this study were students of class XI MAS-PPM Nurul Falah Palu who were selected by one representative student each from the results of a learning style questionnaire that grouped students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. . The results of data analysis show that, (1) In understanding the problem, students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles show relevant understanding by gathering information contained in the questions and can identify problems from the questions with their knowledge of the "statement" and "question" sentences, although with a different writing style. The difference is seen in students with kinesthetic learning styles.. (2) In planning problem solving, subjects with visual and auditory learning styles can plan strategically well to achieve the goals to be achieved in a problem and can choose relevant information from the problem. While subjects with kinesthetic learning styles are quite good in planning problem solving but in developing strategies they are still not suitable to be able to solve problems properly. (3) In carrying out problem solving plans, subjects with visual learning styles are very good at executing, carrying out plans and are able to organize and integrate problems with relevant previous knowledge, as well as auditory subjects even with different writing styles. Meanwhile, subjects with kinesthetic learning styles cannot solve them properly because they are unable to integrate problems with previous knowledge. (4) In re-examining, subjects with visual and auditory learning styles carry out re-examinations because they can monitor, check or detect end results and unexpected events. Meanwhile, subjects with kinesthetic learning styles did not re-examine such as visual and auditory subjects because they were not sure about the problem solving they were doing.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the guided discovery learning model with the Scaffolding technique in improving the students' abilities of class X MIA 4 MAN 1 Palu in the function material. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR) and the design uses the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart, with its stages namely planning, action and observation and reflection. The subjects of this study were 17 students of class X MIA 4 MAN 1 Palu who were registered in the 2019/2020 school year and three students were selected as informants. This research was conducted in two cycles. Based on the results of the final action test, the percentage of students 'classical learning completeness in the first cycle was 73.33% and the percentage of students' classical learning completeness in the second cycle was 93.75%, while the results of teacher and student observations in the first cycle were in the good category and at cycle II is in the very good category. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that learning by applying the guided discovery learning model can improve the ability of class X MAN 1 Palu students on the function material by following the stages (1) stimulation: providing an explanation to students about the inverse function material contained in the LKPD. (2) problem formulation: directing students to find their own inverse function material by asking students to observe and identify the problems contained in the LKPD and make hypotheses. (3) data collection: students are asked to find references related to the inverse function material, then write down the information contained in the given problem carefully. (4) data processing: students process the data that has been collected by discussing the process used to find problems in the LKPD. (5) verification: students are asked to formulate conclusions and then match them with the formulation of the problem given whether the formulation of the conclusions made answers the given problem and whether the results obtained are in accordance with the hypotheses made have been proven or not. and (6) generalization: involving students in class discussions and concluding the material that has been studied.
