Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between the awarding of academic achievement awards to student athletes and their academic performance. The researcher used a quantitative approach with a questionnaire survey that was correlated with the student athletes’ report card grades. The sample in this study consisted of 146 student athletes at Junior High School 1 Baleendah. The results of the study indicate that there is a positive and significant correlation between the awarding of scholarships and academic performance. Scholarships, pocket money, and medals awarded by the organizers of competitions can improve the quality of student athletes’ learning at school, enabling their academic performance to compete with that of regular students, even though competitions do not hinder their learning. This study indicates that being both a student and an athlete does not hinder students from achieving academic success but rather serves as motivation for student athletes to strive harder for academic achievements. The implications of this study are that the athlete class program should be implemented more widely, especially in Bandung Regency, to encourage student athletes to be more active in academic pursuits so they can achieve both academic and sports achievements, and for schools to provide adequate facilities for student athletes.

Abstract

Agility is a very important physical component in futsal, where the ability to change direction quickly and accurately determines the performance of athletes on the field. This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of ABC Running Drill and Hexagon Drill exercises on increasing the agility of male futsal athletes. This study uses an experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. The study population was male futsal athletes from Al Azhar 5 Islamic High School Cirebon with a sample of 15 athletes. Agility was measured using the Agility T-Test before and after the intervention in the form of a combination of ABC Running Drill and Hexagon Drill exercises for six weeks with 2 meetings per week. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test. The results showed a significant increase in agility with a decrease in the average travel time from 13.48 seconds in the pretest to 10.90 seconds in the posttest (difference of 2.58 seconds). All study subjects who were initially in the “poor” category (>12.5 seconds) experienced an improvement in performance with a posttest time range between 9.61-11.84 seconds. The data had a normal distribution based on the Shapiro-Wilk test (p-value > 0.05) and showed a decrease in standard deviation from 5.62 to 3.59, indicating an improvement in performance consistency between athletes. The combination of ABC Running Drill and Hexagon Drill exercises has proven to be effective in significantly increasing the agility of male futsal athletes. This training method can be implemented as an effective training strategy to develop the agility skills of futsal athletes, especially for athletes with low initial agility performance.

Abstract

West Java is endowed with diverse natural landscapes—mountains, rivers, and forests—that offer strong potential for the development of sport tourism. As interest in nature-based and adventure tourism grows, especially among younger generations, the region has an opportunity to foster innovative and sustainable tourism models. This study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach to explore perceptions and challenges related to sport tourism in West Java. The research involved university students with a demonstrated interest in tourism and sports, selected for their responsiveness to emerging travel trends. Data were collected through questionnaires focusing on two key dimensions: natural potential and development challenges. Findings show that students generally view West Java as highly suitable for sport tourism, citing its natural richness and varied landscapes. However, several obstacles were identified, including inadequate infrastructure, limited safety regulations, and weak digital promotion. These challenges suggest the need for a more integrated strategy that aligns environmental potential with institutional and promotional support. Strengthening both ecological and managerial aspects will be essential in positioning sport tourism as a prominent driver of regional development and identity in West Java.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of two service techniques, namely flat serve and spin serve, on direct point acquisition in a simulated tennis match situation. The subjects of the study consisted of 20 male junior tennis players, aged 14–16 years, who were divided into two groups based on service technique. Each group was to use one type of serve consistently during three sets of simulated matches. The variables observed included the number of direct points, service speed, accuracy, rally length, and number of double faults. The results of the independent t-test analysis showed that the flat serve group scored a higher average direct points mean, 9.2; SD = 2.15, than the spin serve group mean, 6.8; SD 1.69, with a t-value = 2.74; p = 0.013. Supporting analysis also showed that the flat serve had higher speed, while the spin serve was superior in accuracy and rally duration. These findings indicate that the flat serve is more effective for a fast point scoring strategy, while the spin serve is more suitable for long rallies and game control. Therefore, coaches are advised to integrate service variation training as part of the development of athletes’ playing strategies.

Abstract

Volleyball is a game that is played continuously with short durations and high intensity, interspersed with brief recovery periods that occur sequentially during the match. The characteristics of the volleyball game require high endurance, making aerobic endurance training essential for the sustainability of athletes in developing their abilities, skills, and bodily endurance in order to adapt to the game which is played continuously with high intensity. This study aims to determine the effect of circuit training methods on the improvement of aerobic endurance. The method used is an experiment with a one-group pre-test and post-test design, with a sample size of 20 students aged 10-12 years who are active in the volleyball extracurricular at Limbangan Tengah 2 Elementary School. The research results show that there is a significant effect of circuit training methods on improving aerobic endurance in volleyball players aged 10-12 years. This is indicated by the average pretest score of 25.9850 and a posttest score of 42.8000, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.005. Thus it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the results of training with the circuit training method on the pretest and posttest data. Therefore, the circuit training method is very effective in improving aerobic endurance, which combines strength and endurance training by completing one group or circuit of exercises with minimal or no rest.

Abstract

This study addresses the low levels of student motivation and participation commonly observed in physical education classes. Traditional teacher-centered methods often fail to engage all students, resulting in passive learning environments. To overcome this challenge, the Jigsaw-type cooperative learning model was implemented to encourage active student involvement and boost learning enthusiasm. The research was conducted in a junior high school setting, targeting eighth-grade students as the object of study. The primary aim of this research is to examine the effectiveness of the Jigsaw cooperative learning model in increasing students’ motivation and participation during physical education lessons. A classroom action research design was employed, involving two cycles with stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through observation sheets, student questionnaires, and teacher field notes, and then analyzed descriptively. The results indicate a significant improvement in both student motivation and participation from the first to the second cycle. In the initial observation, student participation was limited, and motivation levels were low. However, after the implementation of the Jigsaw method, students demonstrated increased engagement, collaboration, and enthusiasm in physical activities. In conclusion, the Jigsaw-type cooperative learning model proves to be an effective instructional strategy to enhance students’ motivation and participation in physical education. This approach not only fosters a more interactive learning environment but also supports the development of social and teamwork skills among students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of jumping and throwing park games on improving basic motor skills of junior high school students. The research method used is an experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of two classes, each consisting of 30 students, divided into experimental and control groups. The instrument used refers to the Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD-2) to measure jumping, throwing, and balance abilities. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant increase in the post-test results of the experimental group compared to the control group (p = 0.000). Jumping and throwing park games have proven effective in integrating locomotor and manipulative movements through a fun play approach, thereby increasing students’ motivation and active participation in physical education learning. These findings indicate that learning media designed according to the characteristics of student development can make a real contribution to improving motor skills. Therefore, the use of this media is recommended as an alternative learning strategy that is educational and fun in the school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of the Game Situation and Senior high school Sided Games approaches to improving students’ futsal playing skills. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 32 futsal extracurricular students of senior high school Negeri 1 Lembang who were divided into two groups, each receiving treatment for 12 meetings. The measurement instrument used The Construction Performance Assessment Instrument on Futsal Game Performance which has been validated. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significant increase in futsal playing skills in both groups. However, the results of the Independent Sample T-Test showed no significant difference between the group using the Game Situation approach and the group using Senior high school Sided Games. These findings indicate that both approaches have relatively equal effectiveness in improving students’ futsal playing skills, both in terms of basic techniques (passing, control, dribbling, shooting) and tactical aspects (decision making, support, and repositioning). The results of this study reference to the development of contextual, active, and fun game-based physical education sports and physical learning strategies.
