Abstract

Kabaddi demands high levels of physical ability, particularly muscular strength, core stability, and endurance, yet the training program remains focused on technical and tactical aspects. The purpose of this study was to look at how deadlift training improved the defensive position performance of Central Java Kabaddi competitors. The study employed a quantitative approach, using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study included 30 male Central Java Kabaddi Athletes who played as defenders and were chosen using purposive sampling. The intervention, which took the shape of a deadlift training program, lasted eight weeks and consisted of two sessions per week with an intensity of 70-85% of one repetition maximum (1RM). Defensive position performance was assessed using the Defensive Hold Time (DHT) indicator. Normality tests, paired sample t-tests, and effect size analysis (Cohen’s d) were used to analyse the data. The findings revealed that the average DHT score increased from 3.47 seconds in the pretest to 4.30 seconds in the posttest. The paired sample t-test indicated a significant difference (p < 0.05) between pretest and posttest scores. Additionally, with an effect size of 2.35, deadlift training was shown to have a significant impact on improving performance in Kabaddi athletes. Consequently, we can conclude that deadlift exercises are beneficial for enhancing the defensive skills of Kabaddi athletes.

Abstract

Dribbling skills are one of the important basic techniques in football that are influenced by the physical condition of the player, especially agility. Based on preliminary observations, players' dribbling skills still need to be improved, especially in terms of dribbling speed and the ability to change direction when passing opponents. This study aims to determine the effect of shuttle run and zig-zag run exercises on increasing ball dribbling agility in Football School ERLA U-12 players in Larangankulon Village. This study uses an experimental method with a pretest-posttest design. The research subjects amounted to 20 Football School  ERLA U-12 players who were divided into two groups, namely the shuttle run training group and the zig-zag run training group. The training program is carried out for 16 meetings with a frequency of three times a week. Data collection was carried out using a dribbling dexterity test, while data analysis used a Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test and a pair sample t-test. The results showed that the two training methods had a significant influence on increasing the dribbling agility of players with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The average increase in the shuttle running group was 0.639 seconds, while in the zig-zag running group it was 0.634 seconds. The results of the effect size analysis showed that both methods had a very large influence, but the zig-zag run exercise showed slightly higher effectiveness. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that shuttle run and zig-zag run exercises are effective in improving the dribbling agility of early age soccer players, with zig-zag run training as a more effective method.

Abstract

Adolescent is a vital stage to form a person identity and adherence to healthy lifestyle. Physical literacy and physical self-description are two significant growing determinants in youth affecting their active lifestyles later in their adulthood period. However, studies directly investigating these two variables were limited. This research aimed at examining the correlation between physical literacy and physical self-description of adolescents and the difference of physical literacy level of adolescents from supportive academic programs, including sport-related programs and health-related programs. This study employed cross-sectional study with survey method. The samples of this study were 513 students, aged 17-21 years, selected from four sport-related programs and two health-related programs. The data were collected by using PPLI questionnaire, for measuring perceived physical literacy of the samples, and PSDQ questionnaire, for measuring the sample physical self-descriptions. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Correlation to determine the correlation between perceived physical literacy and physical self-description of the samples. To decide the difference between the level of physical literacy of adolescents majoring sport-related programs and adolescents majoring health-related programs, independent t-test was administered. The result of the data analysis found that there was a significant positive correlation between physical literacy and physical self-description in adolescents. A significant difference was also found on the level of physical literacy between students majoring sport-related program and students majoring health-related programs. This study implies that it is important to enhance physical literacy of adolescents and to maintain positive perceptions on their physical descriptions as these two variables would highly contribute to their physical activity level later in their adulthood period.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of psychological aspects in football, especially the anxiety that novice athletes often experience when facing match situations. Uncontrolled levels of anxiety can affect a player's concentration, decision-making, as well as basic technical skills, especially in shoting, which is an important ability to score goals. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between anxiety level and basic shoting technique skills in novice female football athletes at Goal Aksis Football School. The research uses a quantitative method with a correlational descriptive design. The study subjects consisted of 18 15-year-old female football novice athletes who were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out through a Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT) questionnaire which was modified into 20 statements to measure anxiety, an anxiety observation sheet based on physiological, psychological, and behavioral indicators, and a shoting skill test using the Bobby Charlton method to measure shot accuracy. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics, normality test, Pearson correlation test and determination coefficient (R Square) with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and there was a very strong relationship between anxiety and basic shoting technique skills, with a correlation coefficient value of r = 0.998 and a significance value of p < 0.05. The determination coefficient of 0.996 showed that 99.6% of the variation in shoting ability was influenced by the athlete's anxiety level. Based on these results, it can be concluded that anxiety has a very significant relationship with the basic shoting technique skills of novice female football athletes, so the management of mental aspects needs to be considered in the process of coaching and training athletes.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has induced a sedentary lifestyle in youngsters, adversely affecting the deterioration of fundamental motor abilities, particularly locomotor motions. On the other hand, conventional athletic training in schools is often considered uninteresting for students. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of using parkour in athletic training on enhancing elementary school children' locomotor skills and to compare its efficacy with traditional training methods. This research employed an experimental methodology with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample comprised kids from Mandalaherang Elementary School, categorized into an experimental group (parkour-based learning) and a control group (traditional learning). The TGMD-2 (Test of Gross Motor Development - Second Edition) was employed to assess locomotor skills. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and N-Gain assessments. The findings indicated a notable enhancement in the locomotor abilities of the experimental group. The experimental group attained an average N-Gain score of 0.5031 (moderate category), but the control group achieved just 0.2065 (poor category). Alongside physical attributes, observations indicated an enhancement in students' self-confidence and problem-solving abilities when confronted with challenges. The integration of parkour into the elementary school athletics curriculum has proven to be more effective in enhancing students' locomotor skills compared to conventional teaching methods. Parkour can serve as an innovative learning medium that is interesting, challenging, and suited to the developmental characteristics of elementary school students.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and the increasing use of electronic devices in elementary school children contribute to the increase in sedentary behavior which has an impact on decreased physical fitness, impaired motor development, and reduced social interaction. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of traditional games in reducing the sedentary behavior of elementary school students. The study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design through a nonequivalent control group design model. The study participants totaled 77 students in grades IV–VI consisting of the experimental group (n = 39) and the control group (n = 38). The instrument used was the Adolescent Sedentary Activity Questionnaire (ASAQ) which met the criteria of validity and reliability (α = 0.853). Traditional game-based learning interventions were carried out for ten meetings in PE learning. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and the Mann–Whitney U Test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a significant decrease in sedentary behavior in the experimental group, from 4.32 hours/day to 3.06 hours/day. These findings suggest that traditional games are effective as a learning strategy to lower the sedentary behavior of elementary school students.

Abstract

Table tennis is a sport that requires a combination of technical skills, physical abilities, and psychological factors, particularly in executing complex techniques such as topspin. In practice, many athletes experience difficulties in performing consistent and accurate topspin strokes, which may be influenced not only by technical mastery but also by psychological aspects such as self-efficacy and attention. This study aims to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and attention on topspin technique skills in athletes of the UPI Sumedang Table Tennis Student Activity Unit. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 15 athletes selected through purposive sampling from a total population of 30 athletes. The research instruments included a self-efficacy questionnaire adapted from Albert Bandura's concept and an attention scale based on Robert L. Solso's cognitive theory, and a topspin skill test. Data analysis used Pearson correlation test and multiple linear regression with the help of SPSS 26 at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that partially self-efficacy was significantly related to topspin skills (r = 0.538; p = 0.039), and attention was also significantly related (r = 0.758; p = 0.001). However, in the multiple regression analysis, only attention had a significant effect on topspin skills (β = 0.646; p = 0.005), while self-efficacy did not show a significant effect (p = 0.157). Both variables simultaneously contributed 64.2% to topspin skill (R² = 0.642; p = 0.002). These findings indicate that attention is the dominant predictor of topspin skill, while self efficacy plays an indirect role when analyzed together. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of integrating psychological training, particularly attention, into table tennis training programs.

Abstract

Physical fitness is an important element in achieving maximum athletic performance, while sport values reflect the attitudes and ethics that every athlete should possess. This study aims to identify the level of physical fitness and sport values among athletes participating in futsal extracurricular activities at senior high schools and to determine whether there is a relationship between physical fitness and sport values. This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a sample of 49 futsal extracurricular athletes at a high school in Cimahi City. Data were obtained through two stages, namely the TKSI (Indonesian Student Fitness Level) test and a questionnaire. The questionnaire was in the form of YSVQ-2 (Youth Sport Values Questionnaire) to measure the extent of sports values possessed, and the TKSI test consisted of 6 tests (hand and eye coordination, vertical jump, t-test, hand touch reaction test, dipping test, and beep test) to determine the level of physical fitness of the students. The results of the study showed that the average physical fitness score was 66% and the sport values score was 51%. In addition, the correlation test results showed that there was no correlation between physical fitness and sport values (sig=0.275; r=0.119). This was due to several factors, such as the fact that assessments in sports tend to be subjective and focus more on technical and tactical abilities, as well as environmental factors such as the availability of sports facilities. Weather conditions and social support can influence participation in physical activity. The impact on sports values and physical fitness can vary depending on these conditions. Therefore, values in sports cannot be used as an accurate indicator to assess a person's level of physical fitness.

Abstract

This study is motivated by a lack of attention to upper body strength training in football training programs, even though this strength plays an important role in improving  the ability to throw inside. Football training programs generally emphasize more on foot technique so that the development of the strength of the shoulder, arm, and upper body muscles has not been carried out optimally. This study aims to determine the effect of upper body plyometric exercise (UBPT) on the improvement of throwing ability inward in football players. The research method used is a quantitative approach with  a pre-experimental design using a pretest-posttest design of one group. The study participants amounted to 24 PS Ranc FC Football School players in the age group of 14 years who were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out through throw-in tests at the pretest and posttest stages after the implementation of 12 UBBT training sessions. Data analysis used normality test, homogeneity test, and paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase in the ability to throw with a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Thus, UBPT exercises are effective in increasing the strength and explosiveness of the upper body muscles so that they can improve  the ability to throw into  football players.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the need to improve the movement quality of intermediate-level dancers. In practice, training tends to emphasize mastery of mechanical techniques and memorization of choreography, while body awareness and dancers’ sensory experiences have not been the primary focus. This condition indicates a gap between movement form mastery and conscious movement quality. Somatic practice, as a mind-body approach, offers an alternative training method that emphasizes movement learning through sensory awareness and internal body control. This study aims to analyze whether the implementation of somatic training can significantly improve the movement quality of intermediate-level dancers at Studio Purnamasari. This study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design. Six intermediate-level dancers participated in the study. Data were collected through movement quality assessments before (pretest) and after (posttest) the implementation of somatic training. The results showed an increase in the average score from 75.82 (pretest) to 87.64 (posttest), with a significant difference (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that somatic training effectively improves dancers’ movement quality through enhanced body awareness, movement coordination, and control of energy and breathing. This study contributes empirically to the development of body-awareness-based training methods in non-formal dance education.
