Abstract

Topography is one of the factors that influence language development in an area. Leksono is one of the areas located on the border of Wonosobo and Banjarnegara regency. The people of Wonosobo generally spoke Solo-Yogya dialect, while Banjarnegara people used Banyumas dialect. This fact caused the people of Leksono to encounter the two dialects. The stersebutation affected the speech of Leksono people. This research aims to describe the speech of Leksono people. This article belongs to descriptive qualitative. The method used was listening with note-taking technique. The data were utterances in the community itself. When there was a formal or informal event, the dialog in the community was recorded and transcribed. Based on the analysis, in the daily conversations and informal settings, the dominant speech was the ngoko variety of Banyumas dialect. However, the Solo-Yogya dialect ngoko variety was also acceptable. Unlike the ngoko variety, the krama variety that develops in Leksono was the Solo-Yogya dialect. This variety was used to speak to people who were respected. Meanwhile, in the fields of art and religion, the Solo-Yogya dialect was also dominantly used. In fact, the dialect is not only used in the krama variety. The ngoko variety also uses the Solo-Yogya dialect when the Leksono community makes art. This shows the hegemony of Solo-Yogya over the Leksono community.

Abstract

Colonization in Indonesia has been going on for centuries. One of the cruelest forms of domination was that of the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia's name at the time). Over time, Japan became a nightmare that haunted society. This domination goes hand in hand with hegemony as a strengthening of power. This is reflected in a literary work, namely the cerkak entitled Nglari Nakagawa by Suparto Brata. From this discussion, it is hoped that Japanese domination and hegemony can be known and that Nglari Nakagawa can be proven as postcolonial literature. To dissect the story, Gramsci's theory of hegemony is used, supported by other theories, such as orientalism, mimicry, subaltern, and others. The analysis results show that the domination and hegemony carried out by the Japanese caused side effects in the form of mimicry, othering, and subaltern performed by the natives by taking the example of the colonizers. Related to the Japanese rule, the hegemony that prevails in society cannot be concluded equally, but it varies among individuals due to differences in colonization experiences. Looking at the content of Nglari Nakagawa's cerkak, it can be classified as a postcolonial work, one of which is shown by Nakagawa's anomalous existence trying to defy the dominant stereotypes in society.

Abstract

This study compares the phonology and lexicon of the Pemalang Javanese dialect as spoken by the communities in Wanarajen Utara and Randudongkal villages, located in Pemalang Regency, Central Java. Phonological and lexical analyses are employed to investigate the linguistic variations within the Pemalang Javanese dialect. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observation, and note-taking methods. The results are presented using a qualitative descriptive approach, providing accurate and factual descriptions through narrative explanations based on real-life observations in the research. In identifying the dialectal differences between the two villages, contrastive linguistics and geolinguistics methods were applied. The findings reveal several phonological and lexical differences influenced by factors such as topography, social interaction, and migration. For instance, the word for [tree] in Randudongkal is [wit] with the vowel /i/, while in Wanarajen Utara, it is pronounced as [wet] with the vowel /e/. Lexically, the word for [pants] differs between the two regions: Wanarajen Utara uses [suwal], whereas Randudongkal uses [katok]. This study provides insights into the dialectal variation within the Javanese language in Pemalang Regency and may serve as a reference for further studies on Javanese dialectology.
